Let this be a lesson to the other Pak batsmen (you know who you are)
You play for Pakistan, and don’t slow down for your century. Hafeez didn’t care about his hundred and kept pushing the pedal to the metal and perished in efforts to get his team to a healthy total.

Respect to the Professor!

Mamoon tell them what Hafeez prof was capable of becoming but unfortunately he was born in Pakistan

This innings may become downfall of Pakistan in coming days....

He has always been very under rated. Hes decent for the role hes been given. On the other hand, shoaib malik :sree

Already said it and will say it again - this has been one of Pakistan's very best innings in world cup cricket. What an innings from Hafeez.. made my day!

I honestly never liked him
Or rated him as a quality player. I always said he is the epitome of mediocrity. Very unlike the Pakistanis of old.

That being said, the point I was trying to make here is regarding the innings he played today and how you could clearly see that he was a man batting for a single cause.. that of his team!

We have recently seen some batsmen cut down risks to get their hundreds, thereby, missing out on a few important runs for the team.

I used to rate Malik over Hafeez.

NO MORE!

No point in using this innings to bash Babar, both are in the side to do different jobs. Hafeez has got big hitting power, and that is why I was in favour of him being brought back into the side. That said, I was concerned that with age his reflexes against the short ball might be shot, but he seemed fine today.

Had he not had his silly obdurate insistence on opening the batting for most of his career could have been one of Pakistanis finest spin-bowling allrounder at the no.6 spot. Much better than Afridi.

Pakistan will have a big problem once this guy retires from limited overs cricket.

The rest of them all are tuk tuk type of batsmen. Remember that!

The match winner today. He will be key in the games against the non Asian teams with his bowling.

Hafeez is a match winner on his day. This is why he should be in the side.

Everyone knew that including him but the ego..

The best knock of his ODI career. That flick for six was an unreal shot

Lol. He's simply done what's asked for anyone who represents their nation ie play selflessly. Played very well.

Well apparently Imam and Babar didn't get the memo because they always slow down when approaching personal milestones.

It’s not the first time, he’s done this time and time again. CT Final, SA last year and plenty other times yet here on Pakpassion we continuously bash him

I've been supporting the trio Malik, Hafeez and Amir.

Hafeez showed his experience and stepped up to the occasion. I don't think Babar did too bad, I like his SR but I see Imam disappointing as always.

I predicted in the best all rounder in the wc thread, that it would be hafeez. Hes not letting me down.

Always rated Hafeez!!
Needs to bat between overs 25 to 50.

Hafeez always tends to do well vs england so lets not get to carried away. Good performance but we will need alot more of them in this world cup.

This. Although one could argue we weren't blessed with options in the opening department for most of the years he opened in.

He was always best suited to bat in the lower order, don't know why he insists on batting in the top 3. Pace and swing was always his weakness but in the middle and lower order of batting he can thrive by slaughtering the spinners and older ball trundlers like he did today and the memorable innings he played against India in CT17.

Great innings from him. Really wish Babar could play like this.

It is an absolute tragedy that no one has been able to convince Hafeez on his own strengths . . Hafeez after over number 25 and Hafeez in the first 10 are two completely different batsman! Would have been a much greater player had he realized his value in the second half of a one day innings!

Hafeez is one of my favourite Pakistan cricketers and he gets a lot of slack.

He is a quality batsman and a decent bowler

very very fine innings by Hafeez.

I watched the Pakistan bowling innings highlights on youtube, has anyone noticed if Hafeez was chucking slightly? I couldn't see it clearly but it felt that his arm was not as straight as he was previously.

Majid Khan might still need convincing though.

He's an absolute monster when it comes to batting in the lower order, he can literally take apart bowling attacks with ease and his bowling is a plus against left-handers.

Hafeez was always a sure shot selection it’s malik who is wasting a spot

I 2nd that....Malik was good couple of years back but now he is having his purple patch before he gets his retirement.

The best finisher in Pakistan and the first name on the name sheet when it comes to middle order, I’ve been saying for 2 years he will be a match winner in England come WC, because of his hitting ability. He is the cleanest striker of the bowl in Pakistan. Not only can Hafeez bash the spinners but unlike Malik he also has the capability to score against the pacers. He is actually one of the best players in our side against the short bowl, don’t know what happened last game.

Keep it up and keep winning us matches prof!

Batted very well today and deserved MOTM.

However, i am confident that will be his only good knock of the competition. There's a reason why a guy of his ability averages 33.

Please educate yourself.

He used to average 18 when he made his comeback in 2010.

He brought it up from 18 to 33 which is no easy feat.

If you want a better picture of how vital he is, see his average from 2010 September onwards which is 38.

For an all rounder that is solid.

He is crucial to Pakistan's chances as he is capable of playing big knocks like this. Its why it is imperative that the openers see off the new ball so he can play freely.

A sweet timer of the ball and very good hitter but unfortunately he wasted his career in top order.

I’m happy for him. 2015 he wanted to play really badly but got injured at the wrong time. Could’ve been useful then too.

Now he has the chance to give his country glory after his exploits in the 2011 edition.

Lol the English commentators kept saying where will Pakistan get 5th bowler overs from kept calling Hafeez and Malik part timers lol Hafeez was the number odi bowler for almost a year and half back in like 2012 or something. Not only that he’s always been selfless when he was captain as well and when he wasn’t he will go down as non controversial Pakistani players to play the game and how long he’s been there and no one even notices like Malik and Afridi everyone talk about but no one talks about how long Hafeez has been playing legend for me idc

Give credit where it's due.

He was excellent today and if they're going to go deep in the tournament Hafeez will need to do well.

Batted and bowled brilliantly today. The likes of Babar, Haris, and Imam should look to Hafeez to learn how to play a match winning innings. Pure class.

Well played. That is where he should bat. Unfortunately I predict he or the management will promote him up the order because he is "in form".

Hafeez is a different player when he looks to attack. No one in the team has his short range, power and timing.

Unfortunately, he is a mental midget who cannot play gritty knocks when he goes into his shell. Even as an opener, he has played a few smashing knocks when he hasn’t been in survival mode.

Pakistan has always been incapable of player development which is why he has performed below his abilities.

Very good innings by the professor. Still is one of the best limited overs player in Pakistan XI.

I've never understood Hafeez's insistence to open given his vulnerability to outswingers with the new ball that's been exposed time and again. Maybe it's an ego thing but he's so much more fluent when facing the old ball. You'd think someone nicknamed Professor would know how to maximise his own strengths.

Since his 2010 comeback, Hafeez averages 41 at SR of 85 batting between 3-7. Add his useful offies to that and you have a very useful cricketer. But as an opener and when he was without his bowling he didn't merit a place.

I agree too, he seems a very good number 4-6 where he actually bats well everytime. Why cry about being an opener.

Sublime timing to go with excellent placement, Hafeez can be a delight to watch on his day! What an innings that was. Took the game away from England! Also, people have usually been after them with knives, daggers and guns, but we must give credit to Amir and Wahab for their death bowling. Very focused and determined, showing the value of experience. Well done boys!

I know we should stay grateful with whatever is provided, especially with this Pakistan team, but I cannot turn away from the thought if only they´d won against the West Indies, a spot in the semi-final would´ve stood so much closer! Either way, congratulations Pakistan! Very well played.

Although England lost this game but this defeat of theirs has impressed me more than the win over South Africa. what a, what a batting line-up. Nowhere near on track for the chase after being four down but yet were once in the driving seat hardly an hour later. Anything below 370 isn´t safe against them, and even that may not be safe if Jason Roy gets going. What a favour Shadab did on Pakistan by removing him early!

I cannot help agreeing here. He ALWAYS does well if he looks to be aggressive from ball one. Still remember his couple brilliant T20I knocks against India in 2012. The problem starts when he goes into a shell and actually never then comes out of it.

Had he been a number 4 from the start he would have been acknowledged as a white ball legend.

It's good seeing hafeez playing for the team,he is a starter now no doubt, hopefully he can bowl until the end of the wc it's a bonus
