Cricinfo excludes Sahibzada Farhan from ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament - Fair or not?

ICC announced TEAM OF THE TOURNAMENT:

Farhan, Samson, Kishan, Markram, Pandya, Jacks, Holder, Bumrah, Ngidi, Adil Rashid and Muzarabani. 🏆

12th man - Shadley Van Schalkwyk.

Pakistan needs a coach like gautam gambhir who will kick out these statpadders and their established approach in a team. We use to go to basics and back to 90s when every player needs to play for the team first.

Its funny you say it as Sanju is in touching distance from him after having played just 4 matches. Yes Farhan scored 100s but what was the impact of those innings on the match or Pakistan qualifying for knockouts? his 100 against Sl came at a much lower strike rate compared to Fakhar Zaman in the same match. You can pile as many runs you want but yet if your team cannot qualify for the semis its useless stat padding.

Netflix has new plans now to make a complete comedy movie - "The Boycott" starring Naqvi as the protagonist and supporting cast of Pakistan and Bangladeshis players.. whatever earning from that movie will be donated equally between pakistan and Bangladeshis as a charity..

He could have been a stronger candidate had Pakistan made it to the Finals or at least the semi finals. There were no consequential innings that helped his team get into the business end of the tournament. Regardless, he played extremely well - a lone fighter in a doomed team.
 
Shadley van Schalkwyk could also have been a strong candidate had performing in the early stages were the criteria. In fact, he took 13 wickets in the first round itself, while Bumrah and Varun ended with 14 after playing the Finals.
 
@Major because of the one word we kept hearing against Riz/Bar - 'impact' bro. We didn't make the knockouts plus out of the top 5 batters, his was the lowest strike rate. He did well for us and should be awarded by the PCB.

How was he a candidate? Did he took the all time highest number of wickets in an icc world t20 tournament?

He “could” have been if just the number of wickets was a criteria - think about it, Shadley took all his wickets against higher rated teams than his own. Impactful, isn’t it? But the point remains that his performance did not help his team to get to any meaningful position in the tournament - what “could” have happened had they reached there is hypothetical, and awards don’t get given on hypotheticals.

Did you believe Kapil Dev’s 434 wickets - highest number when he retired - make him better than Imran’s 383?

These three are more eligible than him


Samson faced 161 ballss triking at 200
Kishan faced 164 balls striking at 193.29
Bumrah was literally the difference between in the last 3 games.


Even without WIll Jacks was another guy who won 4 moms played well in semi too with bat and ball. But two of his performances came against Italy and Nepal.

What does kapil devs career wickets have to do here when the discussion is about most runs scored in a single icc t20 tournament that no one has ever done
 
I just heard that the SQL that was used to pick the players for this team had a clause “where team <> ‘Pakistan’” . Ab aur kitna hansoon main? 😂😂😂😂

Sanju won it fairly due to 3 excellent performances back to back in virtual knockouts, but India’s real tournament winner is Bumrah.

I don’t think India would win the 2 back to back World Cups if Bumrah didn’t feature in them.

It’s about having the overall impact to make your side win more - and it may not be your fault at all. Why do you think 99% of the time, the MoM is given to a player from the winning team? It’s about the impact made for the team to win. Farhan didn’t.

He will continue to hold this prestigious record until the time someone breaks it.
 
Even in the cricinfo MVP list

Isan Kishan - no.1 in batting ( since he played all games)
Bumrah - no.1 in bowling

Isan Kishan came to SL whacked 75 runs in 30 odd balls agianst pakistan. He was consistently scoring runs. Made only 4 runs less than Samson.

But sanju has faced 13 overs less mostly against potential finalists and made only like 60 runs less. Unde pressure he made runs semi final, final. Look at the South Africans under pressure. They totally wilted on a good batting wicket.

As for this thread. It shows that cricinfo doesnt even follow its own total impact stats that they have.

Amongst total impact, rachin ravindra was second on the list. Amongst impact runs sahibzada was 2nd on the list above samson.

Yet cricinfo didnt put him up on the team of the tournament

Even if i were a completely neutral i would pick either Bumrah or Samson. GIven that Abhishek was in poor form and circumstances under which Samson accidentally played again i will give him. I still remember the scene in the 5th T20I against NZ Sanju samson came in with gloves and pad to keep they asked him to remove and give it to Kishan as they decided to go with Kishan in the playing XI for world cup. He smiled and gave it to Kishan. His T20 career was effectively over at that moment. Imagine the mental state of that guy. He accidentally came back into the side because Abhishek got ill. Then Rinku's father passed away. In that state he produced 3 selfless fifties. He even said Bumrah should get this award after semi final. These are unqunitifable factors. But if i were a total neutral or even an Indian hater i would give it to him.

You mean award him Sitara e Imtiaz and ask him to pay PKR 5 Million at the award ceremony! I have seriously not seen bigger clowns than PCB, and this is no tongue in cheek remark.
 
Not that I agree or disagree, but here are counterpoints,

Probably they saw how many runs against non-minnows and how impactful those runs were.

Against India - 0
Against NZ - Did not bat
Against Eng - 63(45) - SR 140 [ same match Brook scored 100(51) and won the game for his team ]
Against SL - 100(60) - SR 166 [ same match Fakhar score 84(42) and Dasun scored 76(31) so SR of 166 after consuming 60 balls out of 120 balls does not look impressive and one can argue that it was harmful in given situation ]

Some one can easily make a case of him being in the team, but simply making arguments for why he was not included. Virtually zero impact and 160 odd runs against non-minnows.
 
Question for folks familiar with domestics in Pakistan.

Did Farhan perform well in limited overs in domestics? If yes then it's a good data point to give chance to players based on domestics. I always hear that Pakistan has to play anchors because there are no options. Farhan may not be in ESPN team, but he surely performed well. Pakistan could use few more of simialr players in limited overs. Anchors are nmot useful in T20. They lose more games than win and put too much pressure on others to score.

His batting style definitely suits on a slightly slow paced, low bounced wickets. He is able to connect with low center of gravity. But he either has to develop strike rotation skills or he has to keep going harder and harder at the risk of losing his wicket. At this point he is closer to these West Indian hitters in terms of structuring his innings. Boundary or dot. He tries muscle every ball.Doesn't time like say Sanju Samson.

He was beyond horrible in last tours of aus and nz .his aggregate runs are 42 in 5 matches.he was bounced out all the time and footwork was also pathetic as per mark Waugh.
