Total mismatch. If you put a top-class T20 all-rounder then you might have a valid comparison.

Kiwi's and Aussies are generally more well built (timing it won't work, you need power) and the odds are they've played baseball in the past. I doubt that guy in the video had ever picked up a baseball bat in his life before.

tbh baseball extends to Cuba, Philippines , Japan and Taiwan

any country with American influence , much in the same way cricket is a Commonwealth sport

Should've brought in a recognised international cricketer, just as they brought in a recognised major league baseball player. I bet Gayle, Pollard, Afridi or even Faulkner would've given the guy a decent delivery to try and hit, and any of the four would've clubbed the nice n juicy baseball full toss through the roof. Heck, after yesterday's theatrics, Anderson, Shami or Bhuvi could've given that baseball a nice thwack as well!

Picking a random hack to represent cricket clearly shows the experiment was conducted with the bias baseball > cricket.

I very much enjoy watching Major League Baseball; the more so this century as Boston have started winning the World Series again. There is a wonderful symmetry to it - three bases, three strikes, three outs per innings. The odds shift perceptibly with every pitch.

Baseball is redolent with history, as is cricket.

I still prefer test cricket, but find baseball richer and more memorable that
ODI or T20.

With respect to that great man, I think he would find a modern MLB pitcher harder to hit. They can only pitch one day in five on average, because they hyperextend their shoulders. The movement is lavish and late. Imagine facing that full toss from MJ, except in the last eight yards it suddenly breaks sideways, or down, or even up. If you can get a hit (that is not caught, or you are not run out off, with eight men in front of the bat) in fair territory one at-bat in every three, you are considered very, very good.

The different football codes are called football to differentiate them from polo (which is played on horseback and not on foot)

Convict, It just surprises me that games such as Aussie Rules FOOTBALL and American FOOTBALL are known as football.
Mostly the ball is carried along in the hands, but the only game played with mostly the feet is called Soccer!

Because the various different sports originated from a common point- which was British schoolboy sports that were called football because they were played on foot.
Each school/region would have their own rules.

Eventually clubs starting codifying officials rules and forming leagues and associations.

The only confusion you are having is because of a (common) misunderstanding of the origins of the word football.

I don't think many people here have played baseball. To think that hitting a baseball is similar to hitting a full toss ball in cricket is preposterous. Even the best baseball player only get to hit an average of 0.300 (number of hits divided by at bats)

Yes, Afridi is a blind slogger who has no timong to speak off whatsoever. The fact that he still does what he does while being 36 years of age tells me that he's much stronger than Anderson. Maxwell isn't even in this discussion.

It's actually a lot later than that. Cricket was popular in the late 1800s in the United States, particularly in the North East. In fact a Philadelphia club side featuring the USA's only ATG,Bart King stunned the Aussies in 1893 in a drawn series. The problem is that most cricketers came from baseball backgrounds so it was only a matter of time before baseball pushed to the fore-and that happened after the first World War.

cricket is a batsmens game, the onus is always on not getting out, baseball is a pitchers game, the onus is on the pitcher to not get hit, even one hit is a game changer.

the idea that cricket is more difficult, or baseball is more difficult is stupid.

you could be playing tiddlywinks and if a few million kids aspired to be pro tiddly wink players, itd be a terribly difficult game to play at the highest level.

Absolutely no comparison - one is skill based game, other is power based game. Apart from fast bowler, I doubt ant Cricketer can improve performance by PED, whereas Baseball is subject to by far highest number of banned drug cheats.

Only similarity is that both games are team game, built on same concept - that’s being a team game at a given point it’s 1 vs 1 and one of them is trying to hit an object with a tool, coming towards them at pace from the other one and rest active players trying to defend some playing areas.

The skill set is different, the scoring system is even more. In fact there are more similarities between Tennis & Baseball than Cricket & Baseball - the scoring fundamentals of Baseball is very much similar to Tennis.
