DARREN BRAVO AVAILABLE TO PLAY AGAIN WITHIN CRICKET WEST INDIES

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) have today confirmed that batsman Darren Bravo is available with immediate effect to play in all forms of cricket, following his apology to CWI and the President, Dave Cameron.

President Cameron said:

“In early November 2016, I gave an interview to SportsMax TV during which I discussed player retainer contracts and the grades of contract that had been awarded to certain players. In the course of the interview I stated that Darren Bravo had previously been on an ‘A’ contract, which I have since been advised is not correct. I apologize for the misstatement, and wish to assure Mr. Bravo that there was no insult or offense intended towards him. Darren is a senior cricketer who has been a valuable part of the WINDIES set up for a long time, and I would hope to see his game continue to progress and mature, at both regional and international level.”

Darren Bravo issued the following statement:

"On the 11th day of November 2016, after viewing statements made about me by Mr. Dave Cameron, President of the Cricket West Indies, on a television sports programme, I tweeted a response which referred to the President which was, in retrospect, inappropriate. As I have always tried to uphold the best traditions of West Indies Cricket and its players, I now therefore wish to withdraw the comment made on my Twitter account and apologize to the President of CWI and to all WINDIES fans.

I look forward to continuing to play a positive role in both the West Indies' senior men’s team and regional cricket, as well as helping to grow and develop cricket in the region at all levels."

Mini Lara should provide some much needed solidity in the middle order.

Good news for the WI before the trip to England.

Sanity prevails. It would've been an embarrassingly one-sided Test series later this summer between England and West Indies had Darren Bravo not featured.

Even though I still expect England to win comfortably, at least this gives WI a chance to compete with their premier Test batsman returning.

Windies will enjoy the English pitches more than their farming fields. It will also be late in the summer so plenty of sunshine.

Expecting big things from him in England. I think West Indies will give England a good fight but expect England to win.

Glad to see Bravo back in international cricket.

I expect their pacers to get some purchase from the conditions but there won't be plenty of sunshine in late August-early September.

The first Test is a day-nighter, the second is up North at Headingley where its usually overcast and the third Test at Lord's begins Sep 7th when I'll be surprised if rain stays away.

WI should play 4 pacers with Chase as the spinner for Edgbaston and Headingley. At Lord's, there's a case for two spinners as I'd expect dry, worn pitches at such a late point in the season. They could go:

K Brathwaite, K Hope, Bravo, Chase, S Hope, Ambris, Dowrich, Holder, Joseph, Cummins, Gabriel.

Markhor Reports are indicating Bravo will be considered for ODI's and not the Tests in England because he has not played red ball cricket since the UAE tour.

The board has also made progress mending fences with the T20 mercenaries, the stance on talent being selected for playing regional cricket alone is expected to be relaxed.

Either way, great news for WI's cricket moving forward; at the very least it was important to maximize their resources and am sure even the dented ego's would have realised this the hard way.

Qualifying for the 2019 WC needs to be their utmost priority now, if the board and players pull together they can reach the SF in that tournament.

I hope you are going along to the Day/Night Test at Edgbaston! But who will you support? Given that you are half-Jamaican but 100% British!

I'd give almost anything to see the West Indies recapture past glories!

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it for the Edgbaston Test ! I am hoping to attend the ones at Lord's instead !

I'll be hoping for Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes to do well but the West Indies to still win ! :yk and just a correction on your part Junaids, I am 100% British so long Manchester remains independent from the rest of us :broad

It's a damn shame, I do believe that there is talent in the Caribbean but their board is just so damn unprofessional , anyway they have made an effort to sort a little bit of the mess out for now so one can hope that the Test series is a bit competitive.

The guy is an ALIEN ! 50 away batting average ! I think cricket at home can be a bit demoralising for him given the state of the WI's and Bravo tends to thrive when there is an even bigger spotlight otherwise you'd think the guy would be average 60 at home given the nature of the pitches. Top top player and a big asset to the Test team, don't see any point in him playing in ODI's though.

West Indies will have some red ball warm-up matches though before the Test series starts. Bravo has to play the England Tests given he's their premier batsman.

The pitches in the West Indies don't help there batsmen so I can see why he averages more away from home than at home.

West Indies test team with the inclusion of Bravo look like a decent outfit.

Markhor looks like those reports were true, he hasn't featured in the warm up games against Essex and Kent. Shocking stuff, why would they bring him back specifically for the ODI's

Anyway, great to see Kemar Roach back in form; took a 5fer against Essex

STILL LIKELY DARREN BRAVO WILL RETURN TO THE WEST INDIES FOLD

President of Cricket West Indies Whyciffe “Dave” Cameron has indicated that self-imposed exile Darren Bravo could be donning his whites for the regional team in the near future.

“We at Cricket West Indies are hoping that he will be playing for Cricket West Indies again. We had several discussions with his agents, management about his return to West Indies cricket. This time he was adamant about playing in the Pakistan Cricket League, we will see what his thoughts are after that tournament is over,” Cameron told the Members’ Luncheon of the Barbados Cricket Association at Kensington Oval this afternoon. Cameron was speaking on the topic The Way Forward.

When asked about the constant battle between some of the players and CWI, Cameron said that from the start of West Indies cricket there have always been problems between the Board and the players.

He stated that the relations between CWI and the current players were good. “If they have any problems, we try to resolve them through the West Indies Players Association (WIPA),” Cameron explained.

Cameron told the gathering that CWI could produce a world-class cricket team that would be the pride and beacon of the Caribbean.

“Our plan for West Indies cricket is one of integration of all aspects of the game throughout the region. We believe that we can successfully merge our talents to produce a world-class cricket team that would be the pride and beacon of the region,” the president said.

Cameron said that the players had to be aware that their roles were a key factor in West Indies cricket on and off the field.

“It is about making our cricket into a brand that all of us can be proud of. We are looking for the best development models for the players. The way forward cannot be with the same old model. If we continue with the same model we have been using all of these years we will never go forward,” Cameron said.

Cameron stressed that when CWI’s strategic plan was revealed at the Board’s meeting in Barbados next month, the public would understand the reason behind the passion with which CWI conducted the business of regional cricket.

He stated that the hiring of expatriates by the CWI was not an indication of the lack of skills in the region and disclosed that the post of high-performance director filled by former director of cricket Richard Pybus was not advertised.

“Based on the strength of how he performed in the previous job with CWI we decided Richard was the best person to fill that post. He delivered three titles for us the last in his previous tenure with the Board. The ICC Under 19 championships and the Twenty20 men and women’s championships,” he explained.

“We are using the best skills to build our cricket. A number of West Indians such as Courtney Walsh who is the coach of Bangladesh, Phil Simmons is with Afghanistan and Adrian Griffith is with the ICC. Wherever we can find the skills to improve our cricket we will use them,” Cameron said.

Dave Cameron is just another in a long line of WI administrators who have not been able to stop WI cricket's long slide into international irrelevance.
