Proper rest has tremendous benefits for players:
- recover from constant niggles and pain
- mentally recharge
- rethink their game away from the limelight

Time off due to serious injuries doesn't cost - because there is no mental rest and requires tons of physical effort to come back.

From Pakistan team, Shaheen, Haris, Rizwan are currently working their tails off in county cricket - non stop cricket since World T20, Bangladesh, Australia and PSL. This can only be harmful, no matter how much they learn in England.

Good news is, rest of Pakistan team including captain Babar are on a well deserved rest.

One can only hope there are no tours arranged/franchise tournaments in summer so that everyone can have some time off.

Globally, many international players are at IPL after grueling schedules of their own. This is sure to affect performances and force choices for 1st team.

Ways of the world, but each country should watch out for their own, if they prioritize national performances.

There is a human angle to this.

These players are viewed as machines by us, the spectators and very few ask questions until someone starts to underperform or not play due to injury which could have been prevented by rest.

We are to blame as much as the admins.

Shaheen should be rested for the meaningless T20 games.

That's what Australia do with Starc. Starc barely plays T20 outside of World T20.

Good thread.

Rest, recuperation, leave, and time with family all extremely important to performance levels.

Bumrah probably needs rest, he isn't bowling as sharp as usual.

Most of Pakistan's players don't need rest because they haven't played any cricket in quite a while.

According to some of our fans he shouldn't take rest because he won't earn this much money in International cricket. :inti

Good thread, it needs to be made very clear in the first post that Shaheen plays as much as he does to prevent injury as this question comes up literally all the time.

Let me phrase it this way - the cricketers can rest, the game of cricket will not.

By all means take time out but matches will happen year round and there is enough depth everywhere to cover for missing/recuperating players.

Not sure about that any more.

He plays too many meaningless games - from all PSL games to internationals against the smallest competitor and all 3 formats. At some point, it catches up.

Naseem, Babar, Rizwan all are at risk.

The lack of superstars means the team is incredibly mediocre without our 'big 3' (Babar, Shaheen, Rizwan) present. Who is really going to tune in if none of those players are in the team?

That's why even against Netherlands the PCB prefers to go full strength rather than rotate/test the bench. The product of cricket they have is terrible without them.

Babar Azam was wise enough to not play county or any other t20 tournament after the Australia series when both Shaheen and Rizwan were busy playing county.

Workload is more of an issue for bowlers rather than Batsmen. Babar should not let go of any opportunities to play in England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand as the exposure will only help him as a batsman.
