Current World Test XI to tour India - Would 5 Pakistanis make it?

Azhar Ali as opener
Babar Azam at 3
Mohammad Rizwan as the WK
Yasir Shah as one of the spinners
Shaheeh Afridi could get in too

So 5 Pakistanis out of XI. Damn shame that we may never see these two nations go at it in a Test with these players in their prime.

Babar ahead of Smith ,kane & Root?? Big no
Shaheen is nowhere near .
Rizwan & Yasir both will make it, not sure about any other

Current world test XI for India tour:-

Elgar
Latham
Smith
Root
Babar*/ Williamson
Shakib
Rizwan(wkt)*
Cummins
Yasir*
Archer
Lyon

Only 3. Azhar is not good vs spin. Karunaratne will be ahead in contention too.

Shaheen might make it in the pink ball test else don't think so. He seems more suited to SENA type wickets.

Williamson was unlucky to miss out the 2nd test of last tour to India which was on seaming wicket. He would have scored runs on that wickets. He played the first test on turner and then third test, he batted at wrong time with scoreboard pressure.

Who said he would be ahead of Smith & Root? Williamson averages 36 in India.

Babar Azam
Joe Root
Steve Smith

Who would be your pacers in India conditions?

Who would be your openers in India?

If average is everything then no Pakistani current batsman played in India so no one can make it

Averages in Asia as Opener:

Ali: 62.33
Elgar: 29.64

Who would be your fast bowlers?

Ali's average in Asia is inflated by runs on UAE flat pitches against some mediocre sides like Widnes whome he scored a triple hundred. Those stats should be taken by a pinch of salt.

Elgar is a good player of spin and he played his first tour on that famous South Africa tour to India 2015 where he played the spinners well on poor quality pitches and was South Africa's 2nd best batsman.

Pacers already mentioned.

Babar Azam averages 59 in Asia.

Kane Williamson averages 35 in India & 46 in Asia overall.

With the class that Williamson is and his first innings there, I get including him in ahead of Babar Azam. But to say it's a "big no" is ridiculous.

What is babar azam average vs Sri Lanka in Asia??

For what it's worth, Cricinfo's XI:

Tom Latham
Azhar Ali
Kane Williamson
Joe Root
Steven Smith
Jason Holder
Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
Pat Cummins
Yasir Shah
Nathan Lyon
Shaheen Afridi

How does one compare averages?

Lyon in Australia faces India, SA, NZ, Eng, WI, Pak, SL everyone and averages 32.

Ashwin in Australia faces only Australia and averages 39.

Which is better?

Take out the UAE and he averages 51 in Asia.

Azam is not great against quality spinners .just recent series vs South Africa Maharaj trouble him a lot . think what ash & Jaddu can do ?

And I understand including Williamson ahead of him.

But to say it's a BIG no is silly.

If that 'world XI to tour India' is picked by a Robot purely based on stats and averages, then yes maybe...

But if it's made by a competent coach/management with a considerable cricketing IQ, then it'll probably just be Babar and Rizwan.

Latham
Karunaratne
Root
Smith
Babar
Shakib
Rizwan
Cummins
Rabada/Boult/Hazlewood
Lyon
Embuldeniya/Maharaj/Leach

Azhar isn't an opener and is on decline..

Yasir is a leggie and will be decimated by even Ind A...

Shaheen....well..... he won't even break into a 17-member WXI squad at this moment....

How does Shaheen get into a world 11 over Broad,Cummins,Hazelwood,Anderson,Rabada, and Boult? Also Babar doesn't get into a world test 11 yet ahead of the fab 4,Pujara,and Stokes.

Rizwan is pretty good but Foakes is better. Babar is not coming before Williamson, Root, Smith. Number 6 will be an all-rounder like Stokes or Shakib depending on track. Foakes at 7th. Bowling wise it is a combination from Archer, Anderson, Cummins, Hazlewood, Lyon, Yasir again depending on track.

Azhar Ali actually is not bad choice if considered for opening slot along with Karunaratne.

As good and as talented Babar is I don't see him getting into that middle order.

Good team but I think Kane would be a much better pick than Babar and Yasir is an absolute must have player in Asia.

Broad who his English captain was reluctant to bowl in recent match.

That was due the conditions not his quality. Stuart Broad has over 500 wickets in test cricket. We will be doing banghra if Shaheen gets 300 wickets in tests.

So on a World XI tour to India, you wanna include Pujara? :ishant

Guess Babar can slot into the Indian XI then. :))

Babar Azam wouldn't make a test 11 in India due to his weakness against spin and he also hasn't shown he can score big in tests. You need players who can go big when set in India.

I wouldn't select Shaheen in India over some of the other pacers as he still has a lot to work on in tests. He can be expensive at times. You can't afford that in India.

Don't have an issue with Rizwan, Yasir could do well if he has enough runs to play with.

Of course Broad is much betterbowler than Broad but in Asia he is not much better than Shaheen. In India he will get the same condition to bowl as he did in last match and he was ineffective.

Broad has bowled in the UAE and has played a role in winning a test series in India. And he did well when he played against Sri Lanka before this series .

Also Shaheen would be facing players who are good against pace, I would not select Shaheen in India over the other options available at this stage of his career.

3 Pakistanis.

1.Karunaratne
2.Azhar Ali
3.Smith
4.Root(c)
5.Shakib
6.Stokes
7.Rizwan
8.Cummins
9.Lyon
10. Shah
11.Anderson

Selecting Babar Azam ahead of Stokes or Shakib makes no sense.
There are 7 or 8 pacers better than Shaheen.

Afridi does not know how to set up batsmen yet.

Babar looks uncomfortable against spin.

Rizwan and Yasir are sure to get in.
