If someone discharges a Taser at somebody and that person dies it seems to fit the Dictionary definition of 'killed'.

Hideous. I remember Dalian Atkinson playing for Sheff Weds and Aston Villa in the 1990s. Are our cops taking a cue from their American counterparts ?

RIP, absolutely shocking stuff. Never expected this from our force, it was unnecessary to use the taser.

Telford resident Paula Quinn, who lives in a first-floor flat, told the Shropshire Star she had witnessed the Taser being fired after hearing shouting.

"I stuck my head out the window to look out and I saw two police officers shouting at the gentleman and he sort of was stumbling towards them and the police officers warned him they would Taser him, but he just seemed a bit, perhaps, inebriated.

"And because he continued to step forward once or twice - non-threatening - they deployed the Taser," she said.

"As the Taser hit him in the stomach he just went 'doof', down like a lead balloon."

I think we should find out the full facts before leaping to conclusions. There are probably more reliable sources than a bloke in the Shropshire Star.

Son, I have been teaching longer than you have been on this earth. To go from a guy being killed to concluding that black lives don't matter is plain stupid, especially when most of the killers of black men are other black men.

I remember Dalian playing for Villa in the early 90's and he was a very talented guy. He never fulfilled his talent and just faded away, when he signed for the Villa their was the famous anacdote of Ron Atkinson being asked about whether he was his son, and his great reply "have you seen him".

People only started thinking about police brutality when american police officers were killed in revenge. It is sad but finally people started thinking. Isn't it sad that it took life of few white police officers to create awareness ?

This is sad.. Let's wait for the investigation to complete before jumping on conclusion guys..

RIP

Very sad. I didn't know police in Britain were like that.

RIP.

They are not like the cops in the US, do a decent job more often then not. They did warn him there but we need to re-think the use of tasers and look to disarm people without fatal weapons which could potentially kill someone.

Here are some of the highlights of his career including that incredible goal vs Wimbledon @25 seconds

Such a tragic untimely death of a very talented guy. I hope a full investigation is held and if there is anything unlawful that took place then, justice needs to be done. I hate the professional race industry who use any incident and turn into a racial incident, the Duggan incident showed that they are dangerous people who deliberately distort facts to fit in with preconceived narratives. The riots 2011 led to loss innocent lives in Bham and not one word of regret came from these criminals. Maybe the hashtag should be that all lives matter.

Man I can remember that like it was yesterday, I could easily have been killed that day. Usually after praying tarawih in ramadan usually would hang out on the streets as Haroon Jahan, Shahzad Ali and Abdul Musavir would to watch out for trouble makers. But went home and received awful news few hours later. Following the hit and run incident an all out war could have broken out between Brit Pakistani's and Afro-Caribbean communities but Tariq Jahan begged for peace and emphasised that we need to have faith in the justice system. It took something big like that to bring an end to the riots. However, those responsible for committing murder were acquitted on all charges and the case was a big farce.

Can imagine if some innocent black guys had murdered in cold blood and the case remained unsolved?

We protested in our city often but nothing came of it besides a little bit of media coverage but it all blowed over. Feel sorry for the family's as they nevee got justice. We don't know the context of what happened with the black guy and either way like you said before all lives matter

These tragic incidents are used as political tools whereas the underlying problems in black communities are ignored because they have no solutions. The black communities will sadly always be at the bottom because people in these communities are not willing face the problems like the break down in the family, drugs, gangs and the anti education culture that exists in too many families. Just before someone jumps on me, some of the nicest, cleverest kids I have taught have been black.

There is a General phobia of Black people from people in the White community, hence the overreaction when there is a confrontation involving a black person.
These stereotypical views are endemic and no doubt these incidents will become more common.

White people are less racist towards black people than the desis. Nearly Every desi thinks of all black people as thieves and criminals, whereas the whites are much integrated through relationships,Most of what are termed as the black people are actually mixed race.

No, more White people are killed by blacks than the other way round and I read some frightening statistic that 95% of black are killed by other black people, which makes sense as black people live in communities with other black people. Ultimately this is a political game where people jump on tragic incidents like these but won't face the reality that black communities are broken and nothing practical is being done to fix it. Black people need to control of their own lives, cut out the drugs and alcohol abuse, become skilled so that they don't become victims of capitalist cycles, stay together as families and take education seriously. None of these apply exclusively to black people, they are basic templates to successful communities for any race or people.

A police officer has been charged with the murder of footballer Dalian Atkinson who died after being Tasered.

The ex-Aston Villa striker, 48, was restrained by police officers at his father's house in Telford, Shropshire, on 15 August 2016.

A second police officer, also from the West Mercia Police force, has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

Both defendants will appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court later.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) made the decision to press charges following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The CPS has not named the two police constables as it understands their defence will be applying for them to remain anonymous.

An alternative charge of unlawful act manslaughter has also been put forward by the CPS for the officer charged with murder.

Mr Atkinson's family has been informed, a spokesperson said, and issued a statement welcoming the decision but "regret that already more than three years have passed since Dalian died".

Latest news from the West Midlands
Police officers attended Meadows Close in Trench, Telford, where Mr Atkinson was detained outside an address at about 01:30 BST.

He was taken by ambulance to the Princess Royal Hospital where he later died.

Relatives said the footballer was suffering from a number of health issues and had a weak heart when the Taser was deployed.

Mr Atkinson started his career at Ipswich Town before moving to Sheffield Wednesday, Real Sociedad, Aston Villa and Fenerbahçe in Turkey.

He is best remembered for scoring the Match of the Day goal of the season in 1992-93 when he dribbled the ball from inside his own half before chipping the Wimbledon keeper from the edge of the penalty area.

In a statement, West Mercia Police said: "Our thoughts continue to remain with the family and friends of Dalian Atkinson at this difficult time".

Chief Constable Anthony Bangham said it would not be appropriate to comment on the circumstances around Mr Atkinson's death, but added he would ensure the officers in question "have the appropriate support throughout the forthcoming criminal justice process".

This has nothing to do with Dalian who we now know was murdered by cops.

I hope their names are released and they are given life sentences!

True and these cops need to face the consequences of their criminality but the general issue with the violence in the black community is a massive problem and political correctness means that no one discusses it honestly. If white people were killing Blacks on this scale in this day and age, there would quite rightly be outrage, so why the sweeping under the carpet of political correctness of black on black violence.
