There have been no confirmed sightings of fugitive Daniel Abed Khalife since he escaped Wandsworth prison despite receiving more than 50 calls from the public.

The 21-year-old former soldier was working in the kitchen and wearing a chef's uniform when he broke out of the Category B prison by holding on to straps underneath a food truck to make his getaway.

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, said the Bidfood delivery vehicle was stopped by police an hour and five minutes after it left the prison around 2.6 miles away at the junction of Upper Richmond Road with Carlton Drive, near East Putney station.

Police have said it is possible the terror suspect has already left the country but more than 150 counterterrorism officers and staff are focusing efforts in the Kingston and Staffordshire areas.

Commander Murphy said more than 50 calls have been received from members of the public but there have been no "confirmed sightings" despite it being a busy area of London.

He described the situation as "a little unusual" and "perhaps a testament" to Khalife's "ingenuity" in his escape and his "movements after".

"We have some of the best military in the world here in the UK and he was a trained soldier," he said.

Britain's prison system also crumbling.

Not sure why they are making this a big deal. Yes he escaped but police stated he is low risk to the public.

There are OPEN prisons in the UK which house child abusers, paedophiles, they often abscond.

Britain's prison system also crumbling.

Like everything else which has been privatised.

The prisons are old, not enough room for the biggest prison population in Europe.

Most are not prisons but secure holiday homes now, with TV, games consoles, 3 good meals a day, free gym, free education etc.

Guess one prisoner escaping is not a huge deal?

Police have been scouring Richmond Park for fugitive terror suspect Daniel Abed Khalife, Sky News understands.
Officers were stationed at key entry and exit points into the early hours of Friday - with two police helicopters overhead.

Was staying at my parents last night (they live near Richmond Park) and saw / heard the helicopter. It was going pretty much all night.

I guess prison escapes can happen though it is a sign of the wider decay that neoliberal economic policies always bring to public services and institutions. Also a bit embarrassing that they haven't been able to find him in 2.5 days. I mean, how far could he have gone.

Story sounds like something out of Prison Break or one of those true crime docs, there's a Netflix producer somewhere watching this and smelling money.

Don't think it's a big deal since he's not a public risk.

Daniel Khalife: Police confirm new sightings in Chiswick, west London.

Police have confirmed sightings of missing terror suspect Daniel Khalife in Chiswick, west London, as they released a new description.

He is said to be wearing a black baseball cap, black t-shirt and dark-coloured clothes on his legs, as well as carrying a small bag or case.

Police said "intensive" searches were under way in Chiswick, about 4.5 miles from HMP Wandsworth, from where the former soldier escaped.

He escaped hiding under a delivery van.

Armed officers and police dogs are searching the west London suburb, while a Metropolitan Police boat is nearby on the River Thames.

Police are stopping and searching vehicles, inspecting car boots and asking local residents for their identification.

On Friday, Met officers were carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the hunt for the 21-year-old, alongside combing through CCTV footage and using a police helicopter searching areas of west and south-west London.

The force is also offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information that leads directly to the remand prisoner's arrest.

In its latest update on Saturday, Scotland Yard said Chiswick became the focus after what it said were "confirmed sightings in that area overnight, including calls from members of the public".

People in the area reported intense aerial searches involving at least one police helicopter on Friday night into early Saturday morning.

Mr Khalife has been missing for three days after breaking out of Wandsworth prison just after 07:30 BST on Wednesday.

On Friday, the Met said a member of the public had spotted Mr Khalife walking away from the food delivery truck officers said he used to escape Wandsworth, a category B prison.

The van had stopped near the south entrance to Wandsworth roundabout, at the top of Trinity Road.

The previous description said Mr Khalife was wearing a prison-issue cook's uniform, including distinctive red chequered trousers. He held a job in the prison kitchens prior to his escape.

Mr Khalife is accused of trying to spy for an enemy state - understood to be Iran - obtaining information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, and plotting a fake bomb hoax.

He was at Wandsworth on remand pending a trial in November after being denied bail at a court hearing in January.

He is described as slim, 6ft 2in (1.9m), with short brown hair.

Mr Khalife, who is British and has Lebanese heritage on his father's side, grew up in south-west London and joined the Army after leaving school.

Daniel Khalife has been arrested in Chiswick, west London, the Metropolitan Police has said.

This guy served four years in the British army and he is still only 21. I wonder what his story is? How did he end up in jail as a terror suspect? He's gone from being proud to serve his country to becoming a suspected terrorist? I hope it wasn't tied to some negative experience while serving in the army.
