Darren Lehmann resigns as Head Coach of Australia [Update Post #31]

I told you - he'll resign a little later ............. guy is crying, therefore I shouldn't use any harsh words; but I have to say, guy needed sometime to play his cards properly and secure his future.

I hope unlike other comments in this regard, may be I'll be proven wrong later and my sincere apologies for that.

So, basically he was "unofficially" banned for 1 years :). CA had to cover it for him because unlike players (Smith, Warner), the coach (Lehman) is a sort of free agent - Smith, Warner can't make a career by revealing the "story" in media..... but, Lehman could have published couple of best seller books :) and still could have found a Coaching job couple of years later, if not in AUS, but somewhere else. So, CA preserved his character, saved the careers of their fast bowlers and the "sacrifice" was a year of career for 3 players. Sponsors also made sure that few top brasses of CA leaves. Not bad, well managed CA - our Asian blocks have lot, lot to learn from this.

Former Australia batsman and coach Darren Lehmann will have a heart bypass operation after falling ill on Wednesday, his 50th birthday.

Lehmann suffered chest pains while watching his son Jake, 27, captain a Cricket Australia XI against England Lions on the Gold Coast.

Lehmann, who played in 27 Tests, will have surgery in Brisbane on Saturday.

"I would like to thank everyone in the Australian cricket family for their concern," he said.

Australian ball-tampering: Darren Lehmann to quit as Australia coach
"I am receiving the best of medical care and am confident I'll be back on my feet soon."

Lehmann, who also played in 117 one-day internationals and helped Australia win two World Cups, coached the national team from 2013 to 2018.

He returned to coaching for the latest Big Bash League, which concludes on Saturday, but failed to lead Brisbane Heat into the play-off phase.

Lehmann was also appointed coach of the Northern Superchargers, based in Leeds, for the inaugural season of The Hundred, which begins on 17 July.

He was Yorkshire's overseas player from 1997 to 2006 and helped them to their first County Championship title in 33 years in 2001.

Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon added: "He's been a great servant for Yorkshire County Cricket Club over the years and we wish both him and his family well in the coming weeks."

Good luck with his health, but the Handscomb footage confirmed what all of us with even distant connections to Australian cricket knew.

Darren Lehmann had a serious case to answer about his own role in the ball tampering affair, and the fact that he was never even questioned about it shows how serious Cricket Australia was about delivering justice.

The same, of course, applies to the four bowlers who supposedly failed to notice that the balls they delivered from Wellington 2016 to Cape Town 2018 had been sandpapered.

That is an insensitive comment especially for a doctor. You know it better than I do - because you are more experienced in the field than I am - that 50 is far too young to have a bypass surgery and reduces life expectancy.

He will be lucky to make it beyond the age of 65, and this is not the time or the situation to talk about his role in ball-tampering.
