David Lloyd tweets devastating critique of IPL

That's it!

PSL = Pakistan Stupid League

The two countries with "successful" T20 leagues have achieved the following in that time:

1) India has fallen from number 1 to number 7 in the Test rankings.
2) Australia has its worst batting line-up since before the 1920s.

T20 leagues are a form of cricket cancer.

India is up from 7 to 1 again. Now, how do we explain this? :yk

Epic bump and some great posts :))

Absolutely.

:)))

Now lets see if the OP Junaids shows up in his own thread.

If one day @jundais gets a contract in IPL as sports psychiatrist of one of the teams he will do a U-Turn like bumble and IPL would suddenly become the best thing ever and Tests would become obsolete...

I hope this devastating article would be the death knell of this satanic tournament.

I am expecting the public mood to totally turn against IPL as a result of this article by Mihir Sharma on Scroll.in

Three years and billions of dollars later :)) :)) :))

Truly embarrassing.

I was going to hide under my office table in shame, but there was no place for me as it was already full of other Indians.

The article basically says "most Indians are dazzled by anything that glitters and are too stupid or morally bankrupt to care about the problems behind it".
I assume after sandpaper-gate he will never again post or even watch cricket.

1) India has fallen from number 1 to number 7 in the Test rankings.

By the time the IPL season ends in a few weeks, we can expect India will be back to #7 or worse...

Great bump!!! I was shocked to see him in the commentary this morning. He once said, who'd care to watch Chennai chunderers vs some other team when we can watch EPL.

He wasn't exactly wrong but I thought there was no necessity and now he just proved he's shameless.

Bumble now commentating on the IPL. How times change.

"Unless it is useful for me , i will criticise"

Three years and billions of dollars later :)) :)) :))

Unlike us Indians, as Junaids is morally solvent and not bankrupt, I assume after sandpaper-gate he will never again post or even watch cricket.

Epic observations as always :))

but cant stop laughing at this bit :

What's with Holding's posturing on IPL though, wasn't he one of the first to sign up for the Kerry Packer circus ?

Has an axe to grind against BCCI who probably put him in his place when he was working on some ICC Committee.

Honestly ! OP of this thread lives in his own fantasy world. Being proved wrong again and again seems to do little to shake him off his delusions. :srini

Has an axe to grind against BCCI who probably put him in his place when he was working on some ICC Committee.

He's publicly stated he doesn't like the bcci but never elaborated as to why. Probably while working all those years for Sky with his english colleagues, their antipathy must have rubbed off on him - peer pressure.

Must be something to do with Steve Bucknor. BCCI "phased him out" because of the horrible decisions he gave against them for years.

LOL! Paisa bolta hai. Well nothing wrong in it he is making some money.

Murdochs making full use of the Sky Sports commentary crew to further help improve TRPs of one of their costliest products.

Lol. That's bumble's credibility down the drain. Only English analysts who i still listen to are Boycs and Bob Willis. I still remember Athers' and Nas' snide comments about how India are only good "in these conditions" when India walloped England 4-0 in that series.

All English pundits say that. After the recent Ashes, Michael Vaughan said Australia are clearly the better side in these conditions :))

Bumble must have some kind of auto delete thing running for his old tweets as most of the old IPL ones have disappeared.

I like Bumble, he’s an entertaining commentator - glad he’s commentating on the IPL.

Same way they got to no 1 last time

The last time we got to #1 was very organic, built arguably from 2002-03 forward. That team performed well in both formats for the next decade and got to #1 in the process.

The actual process of getting to no. 1 involved home series punctuated by occasional SL and WI matches, it did start in England 2007 though

Does winning against teams ranked lower than you gives much points?

The points are based on the opponent you beat. If they are ranked higher than you, u gain more. The only issue with the ranking system is it doesn't differentiate between home and away series.

Lets see if Holding calls him (Bumble) out during the tests this summer.

About Bumble himself well LOL. Would love it if some1 could confront with it.

Junaids point was that IPL had caused India to fall to #7. All BreadPakoda is pointing out is that IPL has only got bigger as India has risen from #7 to #1.

Makes sense, playing away killed India and Pakistan both last time they were no. 1, let's see what happens this year

KP has he’s say. This could heat up.

Call him out on what? Bumbles always been a supporter of England players in the IPL and has stated previously how much he loves the cricket side of it.

David Lloyd tweets devastating critique of IPL

The Indian Premier League is also widely and justifiably viewed as a civilisational nadir. A previously unimaginable blend of bad taste and bad faith, the IPL manages to simultaneously insult women, history, cricketing skill, and the intelligence of its viewers. What is too little appreciated, however, is how much it reveals about the Indian economy.

Sure...

Sky criticised IPL as Sony owned the rights. Now since Star owns the rights entire Sky team has descended here.

If if your countrymen like the rest of the world wouldn't run rather than walk to the IPL auction if given a chance.

The person was quoting David Llyod, Why are you getting so worked up? Unless your post was directed at Llyod.

Actually the person was quoting David Lloyd quoting someone else who did not really say "unimaginable blend of bad blah blah blah blanketty blanketty blank".

Your question begs the question, why are you getting worked up about me getting worked up?

All other cricket is at a standstill. Pretty much everyone of who is who in cricket - players, officials, commentators have descended on IPL/India. The IPL does have a tremendous advantage over the other T20 leagues.

What is surprising is, why no other league is taking advantage of this window and running their league during this time. Especially PSL and BPL whose local stars do not play in the IPL (except a couple).

These leagues are targeted and popular only for the local audience and the expats of each league. So hardly a big loss of eyeballs.

Exactly, now it's their (Star/Sky) own product. So Nasser & Co. have to fall in line or lose their paycheck.

I remember when Dubai went into financial meltdown, global papers (but particularly those from UK) were scathing about the city and its impending demise. Expats from UK and other countries left their cars at the airport and left.

Dubai is back and so are the expats - but not those who left their cars at the airport.

Jealousy never pays.

Along with their cars, they also left behind bank loans, unpaid credit card dues etc.

I believe the ICC has proposed just that. I will find the link. Im surprised PP has not picked up on the coming changes to the yearly calendar with regards to T20 leagues!!

Only IPL has a dedicated window in ICCs FTP. No other league has that.

there was a new proposal that will give each league a window during the year..but it was divided into regions. have you not seen this proposal? it was on cricinfo? the asian section were to be given a window between april and june..

No such thing exists in the FTP. Only IPL has a window from March end to May End.

It may have bedn a concept but its not part of the FTP.

1.If any league start same time as IPL they will not get good money from Indian broadcasters.

2.They have to pay huge amounts to their top players to make sure they don’t play in IPL.

Lol? How it’s possible to give each region a windo and play International cricket simultaneously?

I was mainly referring to PSL and BPL. The rest have seasonal/weather issues. So besides Shakib and Mustafiz none of them play IPL, so paying $$ over IPL contracts is a non issue for the rest.

Whether you like the IPL or not you cannot disagree with some of the points made in the article. It does look like the glitz and the glamour has shrouded some people's logical thinking.

And is David Lloyd really commenting in the IPL now? wow, talk about hypocrisy, it makes him look like a Dufus. People should call him out on twitter for it, lets see if he remembers?

If if your countrymen like the rest of the world wouldn't run rather than walk to the IPL auction if given a chance.

99.99999% of the world population would run for money. Of course if given the chance PAK players would play the IPL.

Perhaps you should understand why I posted in the first place.
