Standard Bank Proteas batsman, David Miller, has announced he will indefinitely be unavailable to play first-class cricket in South Africa. Miller remains available to play in all forms of limited-overs cricket for the Proteas and the Hollywoodbets Dolphins.

“It was a tough decision to make,” Miller said. “I have always loved playing red ball cricket but I have decided that I would, in future, like to concentrate on white ball cricket to make sure that I am in a position to give myself the best opportunity to play for the Proteas in the format that I love. This is an important decision for me, especially with the World Cup looming next year. I will also be available to play for the Dolphins in all limited-overs competitions and will give it my all to help them win trophies this season.”

Miller has scored 3342 runs in 63 first-class matches played, averaging 36.32 with 6 centuries and 19 half-centuries to his name.

Commenting on the decision, Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive, Thabang Moroe said: “It is disappointing to lose David from our pool of potential Test players. At the age of 29 he still has many years of good cricket left in him in all formats but at the same time we have to understand that he wants to throw his full weight into helping the Proteas to win the ICC World Cup.

“He has time on his hands to resume his first-class career in due course and I sincerely hope that we have not seen the last of him in red ball cricket where he has shown his undeniable talents in the past,” concluded Mr. Moroe

Well he wasn't going to play test cricket for South Africa. So it's not a surprising decision.

Yes.It makes sense.Frees him up from domestic commitments and allows him to play more T20 cricket.

Hope to see him in the PSL. He isn't a regular in the IPL teams that have selected him so I would like to see him in the PSL.

I think he is a regular for KXIP, but yes,I would also like him to play the PSL.He has previously travelled to Pakistan for the World XI,so that will not be an issue.

He is a sitting duck on any pitch which assists spin. He will fail in UAE. Maybe in Sharjah he might perform.

He didn't play much in this year IPL if I remember correctly.

Durban – South African middle-order star and Hollywoodbets Dolphins hero David Miller is dealing with his frustrations at not being able to play and practice during the COVID-19 lockdown, but the global star is upbeat that they will be back on the park sooner rather than later.

With the Proteas tour of Sri Lanka postponed and the upcoming tour of the West Indies in the balance along with the postponement of the Indian Premier League, Miller has found himself in the unusual position of having no winter cricket to look forward to.

“It’s the longest time that I have gone without hitting any balls, practicing or playing!” the 30 year-old said. “It’s been challenging in that sense mentally but it is also quite refreshing having a bit of a break.

“With that said it is a career so you definitely do miss playing and being involved in the action but being able to exercise outside now has made it a little bit easier.

“Everyone is the same boat during these difficult times but we just have to be patient and see what happens in the next few weeks.”

Despite the uncertainty that comes with the current situation, Cricket South Africa has made sure that the players are in the loop and are ready should the situation change and the players are able to train and prepare once again.

“We have been briefed by CSA and have been given workout programmes and regimes because it is a time that we can still train and stay fit.

“It is concerning times at this stage though because the T20 World Cup is around the corner which is a huge event for players and if that doesn’t take place it will be a massive loss.

“We just need to bide our time and do what we can during this time,” Miller added.

Miller was snapped up again in the IPL auction for 2020 and is set to represent the Rajasthan Royals after a number of successful seasons with the Kings XI Punjab. Not only is the IPL an important income for players but it is a competition like no other from a cricketing perspective.

“Everyone knows that the IPL is a huge competition and although we are not too sure about what is happening with the tournament it is out of our control so we can’t dwell on that too much.

“It’s a tournament that I always look forward to because it is a great test for any cricketer through the pressure and the high demands of the owners and the crowds so I do miss it and hopefully we will be able to play it again this year.”

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins will be hoping that Miller can play a role in their 2020/21 season when it gets underway towards the backend of this year.

David Miller will be returning to South Africa with the T20 squad to participate in the CSA domestic T20 Challenge.

He will return to Pakistan to take part in the second half of the Pakistan Super League at the conclusion of the South African tournament.

David Miller has made history as the first South African cricketer to surpass 10,000 runs in T20s. This remarkable feat occurred during the Paarl Royals' match against the Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 2024 Eliminator on February 7 at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

His milestone now puts him up there with legends like Chris Gayle and Shoaib Malik. His slick skills and awesome career make him one of the big shots in the exciting world of T20 cricket.
