Delhi boy dies during 'miracle cure' attempt, dazed woman says 'He'll stand up'

Superstition claimed the life of a five-year-old in Haridwar. The parents of the child, who was terminally ill, submerged him in the Ganges again and again, hoping for a “miracle cure”. The family ended up killing the child. The incident took place in Haridwar’s Har Ki Pauri.

The family from Delhi arrived at Har Ki Pauri with their 5-year-old child on Wednesday. The parents of the child were accompanied by another family member.

They took the child for a dip in the holy river, but the child died in the process.

A video from Haridwar shows a woman sitting with the child's body, with the onlookers condemning her. The woman, seen laughing in a half-crazed manner, can be heard saying, "This child will stand up. That is my promise."

Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the scene and took the child to the district hospital, where the doctors declared the child dead. The child's body has been sent for post-mortem.

According to Superintendent of Police (City) Swatantra Kumar Singh, the couple had brought their son, who was suffering from blood cancer, for a dip in the Ganges River in Haridwar. The child's parents revealed that they had consulted doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, but the doctors had given up on the child.

In their blind faith, the family took the child to Haridwar, hoping a dip in the Ganges would cure him. The locals present at the spot, however, grew suspicious of the family’s behaviour and a commotion took place.

The locals accused the family of drowning the child.

According to the taxi driver who drove the family from Delhi to Haridwar, the child appeared unwell right from the beginning of the journey, and by the time they reached Haridwar, the child's condition had worsened. The taxi driver said that the family spoke about the child’s deteriorating health and bathing in Ganges.

The police have registered a case and further investigation in the case is underway.

Tragic story, desperate parents will do anything to save their child, this is human nature.

But imo this seems like murder to end the suffering or did they really believe dipping him in a river would end his cancer?

There could be malicious intentions in this. A Case of accidental or intentional drowning must be investigated.

How do you think they got this idea? Some holy man told them this would work.

Ive read a couple of other reports and imo it seems like murder, they wanted to end his and their suffering.

So sad to read.

Very unfortunate situation for parents as well as the suffering kid. Hard to prove the case of intentional or unintentional death of that kid.

I will not be surprised if any street side baba gave them this idea and the parents used this to end the kid’s misery.

It seems like a type of assisted suicide to end the suffering but of course as its a child , its not possible.

Have you visited this river? Are there many people who go to find a miracle cure?

Unfortunately, such incidents are still happening in various parts of the world including our Indian sub-continent.

Never been there. I am not religious.

However I know many who went there and took a dip in the holy waters. It s not to find any medical cures. It is of the belief that the dip will remove theirs and their parents should no and wrongdoings.
If anyone goes there to find a miracle cure, they have been duped by some soothsayer.

That river is one of the most disgusting and filthy places on all of earth. If not the most.

Riddled with all sorts of bacteria, parasites etc.

Is this how they treat what’s supposed to be their holy water?

I thought their religion was all about being kind to nature yet they have destroyed a gift from God.

That is so sad and when you look at the river, it is the dirtiest one you will ever wanna step your foot into being an adult let alone a child. This is pathetic and this blind and illogical faith in anything will cost more lives if not stopped.
