PESHAWAR: Dengue virus goes uncontrolled in the provincial capital as the number of dengue patients in the city has exceeded 800 figures.
Health department teams from Punjab will reach the metropolis on Sunday.

As pledged by Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a telephonic call made to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) CM Pervaiz Khattak for assistance to control dengue, provincial health department teams comprising senior doctors will arrive in Peshawar on Sunday.

The KP Health Department, taking notice of the alarming situation, has decided to establish a special centre in hospitals for dengue control and an emergency meeting in this connection has also been called.

District administration officials said that the highest number of dengue cases has been reported from Tehkal, Pishtakhara, Safed Dheri and adjoining areas of the city.

It is worth mentioning here that hundreds of dengue patients were being treated at Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), Hayatabad Medical Complex and other hospitals of the metropolis.

Besides, over 3,000 people have been screened for the virus at Khyber Teaching Hospital. As per the hospital administration, 4,320 suspected cases of dengue have been brought to the facility since July.
The citizens have said that steps taken by provincial health authorities to control dengue were not enough.

The concerned authorities used sub standard chemicals in the spray to save money and the health teams rarely visit rural areas, they alleged.

They should welcome Punjab support and use their experience to handle this situation. Dengue isn't going away anytime soon once it spread in an area. Punjab is going through it from last 7/8 years and still it goes out of control in some areas. Before 2015 it looked like Punjab is finally dengue free but in 2015 again more thn a thousand cases were reported in Rawalpindi division alone to give alarming signal once again. This is something that need long term work it ain't gonna disappear within a year or 2.

at this moment they neddd money and equipment.and punjab should do that rather than doing topi dram of sending experties and helth care worker,,kp has the experties and they have done it before but i mean to say that their response was late..

we have major issues of beds availibilty here in kth ,medicines are completely free but something needs tobe done to admit maximum patient as our medicine unit is half full of dengue patients aors.
nd as a result the care of other deserving patient with other disease are compromised....
and government needs to make people understand that every patinet doesnt need admission,
they come and start fighting with doctor WebGuru

Thanks for sharing the video brother i can understand your situation because once it spreads it's hard to manage and control even when you have all the resources in hand and the biggest thing that need to be done in these type cases is creating awareness and need to educate the community. My brother was diagnosed with dengue in 2015 but thanks to the almighty he recovered within a couple of weeks.

Every summer we face same outbreak in Delhi.. One should be careful not to store any water around home in open, clean coolers if you still use them, when going out try out mosquito repellant creams or wear full clothes, papaya leaves help in recovering platelets so have them if you get dengue.

As number of dengue cases has risen to over 3,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the affected areas of the provincial metropolis have been declared as Red Zone.

“Peshawar has been divided into three zones: Red Zone is the one where dengue virus is epidemic, Yellow Zone comprises areas neighbouring the Red Zone and the third is Green Zone,” Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Saqib Raza Aslam told Geo News.

Experts whose help has been sought to fight the virus say that old tyres in the district have served as breeding ground of dengue mosquitoes. They also believe the mosquitoes breeding on tyres could spread across the country.

“Old tyres have eggs of dengue mosquitoes,” Assistant Professor Basit Rasheed said. “When these tyres are put in water the larvae come out of the eggs. Subsequently, the mosquitoes spread in the area.”

But merely carrying out campaigns and fumigating areas would not curb the virus, experts said, public support is also essential for the cause.

The Peshawar district administration has said over 200 teams were working towards eradicating the dengue virus, and have claimed of fumigating 15,000 houses so far in an attempt to kill dengue mosquitoes.

On the other hand, 400 dengue patients were being treated at hospitals across KP, while 10 have succumbed to the virus so far.
