Following the magnitude of the defeat, there will be questions asked with no guarantee of answers anytime soon. There has already been an outpour of strong reactions over the last 16 hours with the likes of Shoaib Akhtar, Sunil Gavaskar and more chipping in. However, among them, Atul Wassan has made some staggering remarks about the Indian team, taking a shot at their star cricketers.

"The threshold for satisfaction has gotten really low. Despite losing, these players will be superstars. They've been rewarded a lot more for a lot less, facile wins. On IPL wins, they have become superstars. If a player performs well in a bilateral series, he is given four contracts. They think that even if they lose the World Cup, nothing is lost. Life goes on," Wassan said on ABP News.

The former India pacer believes that despite losing World Cups, the current lot of players remain unaffected and that for some of the performers, life will move on. Wassan claims the players have been rewarded far more for their achievements in bilateral series, and so even if they don't perform, it's not the end of the world.

"All this fame that surrounds an Indian cricketer should be categorised. You need to understand that a lot of this is due to fans and the media. That we praise them so much for trivial achievements in bilateral series, players feel they have achieved everything. We haven't won one ICC tournament in 9 years. If you pick the top 15 cricket stars in the world, 10 will be Indians - be it in terms of endorsements, name or fame - but without anything. The trophy cabinet is empty at the end of the day," Wassan added.

IPL is too big too fail.

So all this will be forgotten very soon.

I used to list all these reasons whenever people asked me about my reasoning for disliking IPL but people were busy enjoying the glitz and glamour of IPL. It's been almost a decade now. :inti

Ind won 2007 world cup.when there was no ipl.....very tedious and long format and all unwanted things other than cricket apart from player burnout...
Just stop ipl for 3 years and every thing back to normal

Pakistan also have not won a t20WC after PSL. Is that the reason of their failure if they fail tomorrow too?

PSL played a big role in our CT17 win.

Fakhar Zaman, Hassan Ali, Shadab Khan, Rumman Raees are all products of the PSL.

Pakistan have had a lot less resources, money, power and issues to deal with like not playing at home for a decade

Its been tough for pakistan cricket over the last decade

They won the champions trophy in 2017 despite all this

Whats indias excuses?

Additionally it is not considered as big and as flashy as IPL. Pakistani players still get bashed for not performing in international cricket while PSL is treated only as a gateway to international cricket.

Well players shouldn't be superstars in first place but yeah life must go on. You can reflect on mistakes made but can't be disheartened for a long long time.

India doesn't select players for ODIs based on IPL.

I clearly mentioned t20 world cups as ODI and t20 are completely different formats requiring different sets of skills. If you insist then during this period India too has won a Champions trophy and 50 over world cup post IPL.

If you want to extend achievements to different formats why not extend it to Tests as well. India not just won 1 test series in AUS but 2 in a row and the second with almost a C team.

As mentioned in another thread issue with India past 7-8 years has been players have been 1 dimensional. Either they can only bat or only bowl with Hardik and Jaddu as all rounders. Both Hardik and Jadeja are injury prone and not available most of the times. This situation is unlike when we won in 2007, 2011 and 2013 where Sachin, Sehwag, Yuvi, Raina could all bowl while Harbhajan, Zaheer were no mugs with the bat. AUS has Glen maxweel Finch, Tim David, stoinis who can bowl whiel END has Stokes, Livingston and Moeen. Providing the balance.

The huge concern is even the batsmen in waiting like Shubman, Prithvi, Ishan etc cannot bowl. India needs to go back to 2011 template as current team formation is completely imbalanced. Even Pak had lower oredr bowlers who can strike teh bowl like Haris, Shaheen and Naseem while Shami, Arshdeep or Bumrah cant be trusted on. Ifti and Fakhar can bowl unlike kohli and rohit (who used to bowl early in their careers).

I think Gawaskar really nailed it.

He said, in IPL you play in small boundaries with all the focus on sixes AND pace bowling job done by foreign players.
So Indians have outsourced the pace bowling in IPL's smaller grounds.

And as a result, India doesn't produce good wicket taking pace bowlers - AND India f@arts out when the sample IPL batsmen are made to play in larger boundary grounds.

Can it be the case that these tournaments are of no interest to India because IPL has a bigger following?

Boundary dimensions were not an issue for India in the T20 WC. Its the lack of intent from batsmen and bowlers are medium pacers who got exposed when there is not assistance from the pitch.

It all comes down to team selection. Rohit is done and dusted. Not sure what he is doing in the T20 team let alone being a captain. KL needs to go on a soul searching mission in Himalayas. These 2 singlehandedly destroyed Indian batting.

BK bowled well when there is assistance. The moment, the assistance is gone, he turns into cannon fodder. There are no out and out pace bowlers in Indian team. Every team has at least one. India has none.

Every body is a millionaire ! Varun Chakravarathy has played 3 or 4 internationals. He is worth 3 or 4 millions already.

It is. India cancelled the 5th test with covid excuse in order to take rest for IPL. India had the momentum to win 3-1. But they went back. Played IPL. A tired Indian side came back to ENgland to finish the 5th test. THey got bazballed. Test match was given utmost importance because of Kohli's preference to Tests. Not sure whether that will also be impacted.

Not a chance. 80k Indian fans filled MCG for Pakistan and virtually all v Zimbabwe. Indians deflecting.

They secretly love us but won't admit. We love you too Indians <3, but will still troll the smithereens out of you.

Indian players don't really care about playing for their country. It is all about making money through the IPL. As a Pak fans that suits me fine:ht

So how many first class matches did Bumrah play before his test debut? Yeah we don't select players based on IPL.
