Dhananjaya de Silva: Sri Lanka's Middle-Order Maestro

Dhananjaya de Silva is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who has established himself as a versatile middle-order batsman and handy all-rounder. He made his international debut in 2015 and has since played in all formats for Sri Lanka. De Silva has scored numerous centuries and half-centuries in Tests and ODIs, including a maiden Test century against Australia in 2016. He has also shown his ability to perform under pressure, scoring crucial runs in challenging situations.

In addition to his batting prowess, de Silva has also demonstrated leadership skills, being appointed as the 18th Test captain of Sri Lanka in 2024. Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, while commentating during the 1st Test between Sri Lanka and England, was full of praise for Dhananjaya de Silva, lauding him for thinking outside the box:

"Well I think we should all just shut up up here and give credit to Dhanajaya de Silva as captain. They thought of something different, something completely different, and Jayasuriya has delivered, of course with a little help from Ollie Pope. The cue end of the bat has happened a couple of times. Dhananjaya de Silva saying, 'I told you so'."

He's a really good and underrated middle-order bat who regularly steps up in crisis situations for Sri Lanka. It's a shame the guys around him are too inconsistent to make any of it count.

He is a red ball specialist.

He hasn't done too bad actually. Average of 40 isn't bad by Sri Lankan current standard.

I definitely rate him high in red-ball cricket. He is a utility player who can bat and bowl some tidy overs when needed. Although he might pick many wickets but still he is good enough to give you some over.
