Did benching Imad Wasim really help Pakistan taste victory again?

His bowling is underrated

I think he is a better spinner than the likes of asghar and raza and even gohar
Not sure why he doesnt play test matches

The only reason he is a valuable bowler in t20s is his ability to constrain the runs. He dosent spin the ball much so cant see how he will be able to take wickets in tests which is a must. No point of him going at 2 an over eco rate if he cant take wickets

None of our current bowlers apart from abbas have that run rate
He could really put the pressure on for the other end to capitalise on
 
Imad won't be useful in test matches. Zafar Gohar is the best spin prospect for Pakistan in test matches. If Shadab can control the runs, he'd also be a fine prospect.
 
It's not about turning the ball. It's about bowling well and picking up wickets and restricting the opposition.

Anil Kumble may not be up there as one of the greats, but the dude made a career out of darting the ball in almost like cutters.

On a good day, Imad can really put the breaks on teams and force a wicket. This is across T20's and ODI's.

Pick the players on merit. If they're good,. Pick them. If they're struggling, rotate.

Simple.

Didnt anil bowl bowl alot of overs and tests in india if so you are going to get lots of wickets in india as they are spin friendly wickets.hes really good for t20s and okay for odis

He claimed that Umer Khan is considerably better than Imad and it’s a crime that he isn’t being selected over him for Karachi / Pakistan.

Well I guess Imad had the last laugh.

(Not to mention his prediction that Multan would lose almost every game and that Islamabad would win because of Misbah etc etc)
 
Imad has done a lot better than most people thought he would in his international career.

He has perfected a form of bowling that works very well in the white ball formats and has made it work for him.

He keeps it simple, doesn't complicate what he is trying to do and knows his strengths.

Malik had the team built around him and manoeuvred just so he could play, that's how valued he was until he got reported for throwing
And hafeez record to left hand openers deserves its own thread

Hafeez didnt spin the ball malik didnt spin the ball just becouse he took wickets occsoclal wicket doesnt mean he spins the ball.
 
Imad is a mediocre darter he always gets phainty against top teams and he doesn't score either against them.He should have been kicked out long time ago.A nothing cricketer.
 
Those that say he doesn't spin the ball, well Anil Kumble didn't spin the ball either but is undoubtedly an Indian Great.. Kumble used to dirt the ball in, get bounce due to his height and only turn the occasionally delivery.

Imad turns the occasional delivery too, when the wicket is really taking turn. So in tests I think he can do a decent holding job in matches outside of the subcontinent.

What I think makes him stand out from the others is his ability with the bat. He's definitely under utilised and can be the finisher in the Odi's that we're screaming out for. Possibly bat at number 6 in odi's and 7 in tests matches. One position higher in both formats if we actually knuckled down and worked more on his batting.
 
His batting is improving day by day and he has both solid defense and big shot hitting capabilities

Anil kumble was good at home under 25 average and average 35 away.in tests shadab is well ahead of him in terms of batting.

Imad will be useless in tests I much rather invest in gohar who is naturally a spinner and ok batter.

Batting in ODI's:

Australia - 40.80 AVG 112.70 SR in 8 innings
England - 55 AVG 112.24 SR in 8 innings
India - 71 AVG SR 116.39 in 3 innings
South Africa - 113 AVG 163.76 SR in 3 innings
New Zealand - 25.50 AVG 67.10 SR in 2 innings

If he was any good, he would have a average of 100 and SR of 200+ against all of them.

Bowling wise, he hasn't been good against those teams wicket wise but he is pretty economical and keeping the runs down. His batting down the order has been fantastic.

In T20's, his bowling has been good vs the top teams except for NZ (Pakistan sure have struggled plenty vs Kiwis lately).

Overall, he's a solid player whose batting is reliable in ODI's and bowls well economically. He's not a wicket taking option in ODI's so if Pakistan required a better wicket taking option in ODI's, they could replace his spot but they would also be losing plenty of batting down the order.

Best suited for the T20 format where he has enough power down the order and is a good wicket taking option because of how aggressive batsmen have to be in T20's. You miss, he hits.
 
The issue is that Imad, regardless of what people say, is exceptionally useful. Pair him with Shadab down at and 8, and you get a formidable finishing combination. I know it's not ideal, and I wouldn't call either of them finishers myself, but at the moment, this is what we have.

As for his bowling, we saw him get smashed by the Zimbos. It's because people don't let him settle anymore. Once they see that he's not spinning it, you can start slogging, cutting, lofting, and pretty much dispatch him to any part of the ground. Unless he develops a delivery that can actually spin (either a potent off-break or even a leg-break), he will not be useful on flat decks.

One question though: Why doesn't Imad learn a googly or carrom ball? Is it difficult to learn?
 
More talented players than Imad have done worse in international cricket than him, because they have tried to revamp their game and what they are trying to achieve.

He's played to his strengths and that's worked well for him.

and thats probably got to do with his character
He's clearly a strong person with a good head on his shoulder and cricket is played 90pct in the head or else players like Steve Smith woukd have remained tail Enders and those like Ramprakash would have averaged in their 50's...

I said "one position higher" if he concentrates on his batting.
Let me be unequivocal here, yes Shadab should be first pick and batting at 7 but that shouldn't stop Imad from pressing for a place at number 6.

I'm sure both these guys have it in them to bat at these positions

Yeah he has age on his side doesnt he.no way can shadab and imad play in the same team in tests Pakistan.if he was first pick should shadab bat at 6 and imad bat at 7
 
The only person holding back Imad is Imad. If he wants to be a test batting all-rounder he can. If he wants to bat higher up the order in ODIs he can.

He has a simple game and he understands it well. The rest is up to him and his personal motivations.
 
He's another Hafeez. He will give you an odd performance otherwise he's mostly mediocre and most of the time he's below caliber. The sooner we get rid of him the better.
