I am liking listening to DK during WTC Final

Also, it seems like he's quite liked within the commentary team.

Seems to have a nice future in this thing. Wishing him best.

I think he's awesome...i thot he gave a terrific insight into the fielding position when the ball is swinging in the morning session, i'd rather have him than the terribly entrenched commies who have only one way of describing the action....he comes across as somewhat quirky....a la damien fleming of sorts....i guess he'll be fun.....

Same feelings. A definite upgrade over some other Indian commies. He talks about the game without letting his affiliations impact his judgement and commentary which unfortunately have not been the case with other commies where sometimes the game takes the backseat.

good analysis....yes, correct....for me personally a good commie is one that informs me what i cant see/have missed or possibly informs me about the effect of say for eg a change in fielding position or possibly what the bowler has done with a lower release point.....or a wider spread of slips for eg... and if they are quirky and funny about it or talk about how it was in their days or some other aspect that escapes the eye....alll the more better....shouldnt be a low buzzing bee drone that puts ya to sleep a la ranjit fernando, L siva etc....
on another note...geez Vk and Che Pu standing well outside the crease to negate the swing.....remember Sachin doing this in NZ 2002 tour....

I can never believe how Manjrekar has been a commentator over 2 decades when they could have tried so many. KKD is far better than him.

Anyone is an upgrade over Sanjay Manjrekar.

He's a bit of a tryhard.

Did the usual oohing and aahing about Kohli before he even got to 7*.

Stopped Sangakkara and McMillan to ask Kohli centric questions even before he got to 12*.

This is the style of commentary I don't enjoy.

I like him and prefer his inquisitive style of commentary to the inane pattering that passes for analysis by BCCI commentators.

However, there is an element of cheerleading for current Indian players, particularly Kohli, which suggests that if Karthik works for the BCCI production, he'll go downhill fairly rapidly.

Better than Manjrekar and Aakash Chopra, but talks too much. Needs to slow down a bit and let others speak. But definitely an upgrade over many other Indian commentators.

Won't take him long to become BCCI's cheerleader. :inti

Agree, DK doesnt have the gravity. Ashwin is the quintessential well spoken South Indian, with a view, that i want to see in the comm box.

Who doesn't oohing and aahing about Kohli. Bishop does more. That shouldn't take away his analytic skills and talking about different topics.

Listening to him for the first time on Eng vs SL. Feel like muting the audio already 😭😭😭😭

"Chameera has been the find of the series" 😭😭😭😭

Does this guy even know the players? The Chameera guy has been playing for years now

Reckon he fooled most of us during England's white ball series in India, when he was tucked away out of sight in a room in Chennai and only asked to deliberate on specific questions posed by the main commentary team.

Sunil Gavaskar at the age of 71 is still comfortably the best cricket commentator from India, the level of talent working in cricket broadcasting in the subcontinent - either side of the Radcliffe divide - remains pitiful.

Not impressed at all. Dravid would have been the best commentator had he chosen to continue in broadcasting.

I fined him cringe worthy.
Same with Rambo two extremely different personalities but yet cringe worthy to watch and listen too.

Had to switch over when they were analysing today's game...

Very cringeworthy and his voice is draining. Seems like he tries too hard to impress the likes of rob key, Ian ward, Michael atherton who all have a natural bond and laid back casual way of calling the game. For me Sunil gavaskar is probably the best Indian commentator going, looks like some investment has gone into dk so he’s here to stay.

He comes across as a bit of a try hard to me. Gives a nervous vibe in the com box like an intern trying to impress the boss in his new job, just like how fidgety and nervous he was during his entire career.

Pretty average and a cheerleader.

I recall when New Zealand were left with 15 runs to win in the WTC Final on Day 6, he was still cheerleading for Kohli, saying, "Hats off to Kohli, only 15 runs are left but you can see in his eyes that he is still trying to win the game."

Lol :yk

On-air during England’s chase of 242 on Thursday, Karthik was speaking to his co-commentators about batsmen borrowing their teammates’ bats, when he brought out a rather peculiar analogy on live television.

The comment, heard during the 30th over of England’s innings, went like this: “Batsmen and not liking bats – they go hand in hand. Most of the batters don’t seem to like their bats. They either like another person’s bat or… bats are like a neighbour’s wife, they always feel better.”

Feel better?:)))

A very weird comment to make especially with what happened in his personal life. Shots fired to Murli Vijay maybe?:misbah

Can't help but imagine that it was a deliberate comment in that context. Know a few folks from Chennai that played cricket with Karthik growing up and they say he is a thoroughly decent fella.

Frankly speaking DK is bordering cringeworthy with his commentary, it's as if he is trying too hard to impress BCCI.

DK has no gravitas in the commentary box. He has done nothing of note that is worth remembering. Most of yous would have to Google his acomplishmentments; that's how irrelevant DK is in the commentary box.

People are unnecessarily going after Karthik. Its his 1st series as a broadcaster, so obviously a bit nervous. Also, considering english is not his first language, he is trying to speak bit fast. I am sure with time he will improve...give him sometime. He is atleast 100 times better than Bhajji when Sky Sports hired him as a commentator back in 2018.

Oh I know he's not a pervert but also I don't think he's the kind of guy who brings his grudges on air. I mean, he doesn't need to hold a grudge because everything said and done, he got dealt a better card by life in the end, but that's another discussion:)

I just think he's a socially awkward guy, he always came across as one to me with fidgety behaviour and a lot of nervous energy while he was batting and even behind the stumps. I think he blurted out something foolish on air in a bid to appear humorous and probably thought did I just say that on air immediately afterwards. Like I said, on commentary he comes across as the new intern trying to impress his boss with wacky behaviour.

Pretty much echo the consensus. He has a good voice and can be inquisitive. But has many of the same annoying tendencies of other Indian commentators.

In this regard Sunny and to some extent Harsha stand-out from the rest.

Dinesh Karthik said "I want to apologies for what happened in the last game, it's not really what I intended. I got all wrong, I apologies to everybody. It's not the right thing to do & it shouldn't happen again, I am sorry again".

'Got a Lot of Stick from Mom and Wife' - Dinesh Karthik Apologises for Sexist Comment on Air

India and Kolkata Knight Riders batsman and commentator Dinesh Karthik has apologised for his controversial comments during the second One-Day International between England and Sri Lanka, saying he ‘got it all wrong’. During the game, Karthik came up with a controversial comment involving cricket bats.

“Batsmen and not liking bats, they go hand in hand. Most of the batters don’t seem to like their bats. They either like another person’s bat. Bats are like a neighbour’s wife. They always feel better."

Karthik’s comments were slammed as sexist and inappropriate. The keeper-batsman has now apologised.

“I want to apologise for what happened last game. It’s not really what I intended. I just got it all wrong. I apologise to everybody. It’s definitely not the right thing to say," Karthik said on-air during the third ODI on Sunday.

“I got a lot of stick from my wife and my mum for saying that. I am really sorry that it shouldn’t happen again," he added.

The controversy aside, Karthik, a relatively new commentator, has been lauded for his quick adaptation to the new role. Plenty of commentators and followers on social media have praised him for his astute analysis.

Prior to his role as commentator during the ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand, Karthik had spoken to Cricketnext about why he chose commentary even while active in his playing career.

“If you see foreign countries, especially football and NBA, current players come and talk about the sport when they are injured or when their team is not playing. The perception in India is that if you go to be an expert commentator, their playing career is finished. You take football, current players sit and talk in the studio, talk about other teams and give their expert opinions. In NBA and tennis, this is a norm. Why should it be any different in cricket?"

At least he pauses when the bowler runs into bowl, something Wasim and Ramiz aren’t good at doing.

Looks like another case of trying to translate a Hindi or Tamil saying in English and it did not go down well. I think he should not be apologizing for it.

India tour of England: With Rishabh Pant, Wriddhiman Saha in isolation, Dinesh Karthik says he is ready to play

With Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha in isolation, Dinesh Karthik, who is in England as part of the broadcast team, has hinted that he can keep the wickets if given a chance.

The dreaded coronavirus has hit the Indian cricket team ahead of next month’s Test series against England, starting August 4 in Nottingham.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and throwdown specialist Dayanand Garani has tested positive for Covid-19. At the same time, three others, including bowling coach Bharat Arun, Wriddhiman Saha, and Abhimanyu Easwaran are in self-isolation.

Team India will begin their preparations for the upcoming five-match Test series against England with a three-day warm-up game at Emirates Riverside against County XI starting on Tuesday.

With Pant and Saha in isolation, the only option left with Team India would be to field KL Rahul as the keeper.

However, Dinesh Karthik, who is in England too as a part of the broadcast team, has hinted that he can keep the wickets, too if given a chance. Karthik took to Twitter and subtly send a gentle reminder to the BCCI team management that he is ready for the role.

The rest of the squad, sans Pant and the injured Shubman Gill, left for Durham from London.

Gill had sustained a leg injury earlier this month and the young batsman had left the team’s bio-bubble.

The development comes close on the heels of BCCI secretary Jay Shah sending an e-mail to the Indian contingent, warning it about the rising cases of Covid-19 in the United Kingdom.

Shah, in his letter, told the players to “avoid” crowded places as Covishield, the vaccine which has been given to the team only provides protection, not full immunity against the virus.

In fact, Shah’s letter had specifically stated that players should avoid going to the Wimbledon and Euro Championships, both of which recently concluded there. The England team was recently hit by the virus and was forced to field an altogether different XI in a limited-overs match against Pakistan.Live TV

End of his stint in England - heads to AD for IPL.

Sky must really be cash strapped. Why is Karthik everywhere? He was even an analyst during the Pakistan white ball tour??!

I try and find some redeeming quality about a commentator / analyst. Karthik is neither articulate, insightful, funny or interesting. And he wasn’t even a famous player. Let’s not get started about his ridiculous dress sense.

The mind boggles.

Why have, out of all the people, Sky contracted Dinesh Karthik?

His voice is least suited to commentary and his terrible quips add to the cringe. He also doesn't offer any deep analysis. He also tries quite hard to get involved in the banter of resident Sky voices (Atherton, Hussain, Butcher and Ward).

He has to be one of the most annoying people in the comm box to listen to.

Had problems pronouncing the word row tonight in The Hundred.

The player he was asking struggled to understand what he was meaning.
