Cricket Australia has filed a complaint with Cricket South Africa after two days of sustained abuse of players' families by fans at Newlands.

Coach Darren Lehmann was clearly angry at the attacks which he labelled "disgraceful".

One fan in the members pavilion fronted David Warner as he left the field after being dismissed and proceeded to make comments, reportedly about his wife, as he walked up the race.

Warner stopped and had a short exchange with the man before walking on, but a single security guard who was present made no move to stop the man who continued to hurl abuse at the Australian.

It is estimated around 10 people were ejected for the abuse on day two and three were kicked out on day one for wearing t-shirts which attacked the Warner family.

"I think it's been disgraceful," Lehmann said.

"You're talking about abuse of various players and their families and personal abuse, it's not on at a cricket ground anywhere around the world, not just here, it shouldn't happen.

"You can have the banter, that's fine, banter is good-natured, fun by crowds but they've gone too far here. We've written to Cricket South Africa, Cricket Australia have done that, we'll see their response, but it's been poor. We'll see what happens, hopefully something."

Lehmann confirmed that the abuse by the fan toward Warner as he left the field was "personal and it was poor and he wasn't the only one".

"There's always going to be banter, as long as it doesn't get personal, but it has gone too far with the crowd here and they've got to be better than that when they're coming to international arenas to watch a game of two quality sides playing against each other," Lehmann said.

"They go hard on the ground, there's no doubt about that, but off the ground you don't expect that when you're leaving the ground or you're having a go at someone's family. It's just disgraceful.

"We accept it all around the world, but as soon as they cross the line and they talk about players' families the whole time and getting abused like that, it's just not on. there's been various incidents throughout the Test series but this one has taken the cake."

Lehmann admitted that Australian fans also go too far at times.

"That's not good enough from an Australian crowd point of view either," he said.

"We've just got to get better at watching the game of cricket, actually supporting both teams generally, and that's something that both boards have got to get around."

Elements of the fans have been particularly ugly at Newlands with reports they have lists of all the Australian players wives or girlfriends and are labelling them "sluts" or worse.

Fans continued their ugly behaviour as the team bus left the ground.

It has been a difficult series for Warner,

The batsman got into a verbal slanging match with Quinton de Kock after the South African used what the batsman called "vile and disgusting" about his wife Candice.

Two Cricket South Africa officials were then disciplined when they posed with fans wearing Sonny Bill Williams masks - a taunt directed at the Warners - at the game in Port Elizabeth.

The pair, marketing manager Clive Eksteen and communications manager Altaaf Kazi, have not apologised. They were recalled to Johannesburg and are not expected to be seen again.

The ground authorities had agreed not to let the masks but are understood to have been forced to back down when officials intervened.

Candice, her mother and their two children are in South Africa and have witnessed the distressing behaviour first hand.

All I have heard about this series is about non-cricketing things. What is the issue here?

Give 'em hell, Saffers

Will be good in the long run to stop Aussie bullying culture

The Aussies remind me of bully's who go running to the school pinciple or the authorities when someone gives them the same treatment.

Aussie fans have been hurling strong personal abuses to whoever is on tour esp the English in the Ashes.

What if the whole stadium chanted things against his wife? They will not kick everyone one.

When one dishes out nonsense, one has to take non sense as well instead of cribbing and running to the authorities. Spectators say many things and Warner is responsible for dragging his family through this circus by publicizing it every chance he gets. He never learns

There comes that line again....

That's indeed worrying.

Especially if it's being directed towards them.

De kock and SA fans should be ashamed of themselves as these acts by them are totally unacceptable, but I agree with KingKhan here. Australians always play dirty and use every dirty sledge in the book, but when opposition does it, they start crying. We all know this, but still check out this link below and refresh your memories ;)

lmao OZs stop crying u are the one who always start it..can't wait to play u in uae latter this year when u inevitably get smashed in test you team would start crying empty seats in uae are bullying u
:D

Lesson for the Aussies - don't dish it out if you can't take it.

Looks like they cant handle it when its done back to them

Oh poor Aussies like to dish abuse but can't take some back! Stop crying like babies, if you can't handle it come back home to Mummy and Daddy!:((:((

They need to be reminded how the Australian fans treated Murali whenever he toured there.

Exactly.

But that's within the "line" since Aussies were the ones dishing it.

Add to that, Murali was one one of the most likable, humble and quiet characters, while Warner is a notorious bully and a loudmouth.

You cannot really condone that sort of behaviour from the crowd. And you might even condemn it if it was not Australia at the receiving end.

OMG!

The Line crossed again!

We need to tell saffers what happened to Demon Ravana after he crossed the Laxmanrekha.

Give 'em hell, Saffers

Will be good in the long run to stop Aussie bullying culture

Crowd behavior is disgraceful. But who is responsible? Aussies themselves talk about having a good banter but also not crossing the line. Where is the line? Can someone tell?
I guess Aussies should release a book on how to sledge.

Irony just died a million times!

Lehmann, the original racist, is now complaining about people taunting his team.

Gavaskar writes about Aussie players telling him from the slips what so-and-so is doing to his wife while he's batting here.

And now these guys are offended about people making comments about Warner's wife?!

I don't like bringing family into this either, but Aussies should be the last to complain.

On the field everything is fair game - The Saffors should turn up the heat even more in the coming days!!!

Aussies phir ro rahey hain !!!

This is a fair complaint which has to be dealt with seriously. Only irony is that Ausses who are responsible for even bigger **** when people tour Australia are the one's complaining.

They went after him for cricketing reasons yeah?

And what exactly was the need to harass, bully and humiliate him for no fault of his? The Aussies are the champions of starting a war of words yet when dished out to them they whine like a baby. Remember when McGrath asked Sarwan the taste of Brian Lara's ****? Sarwan responded in kind and the little whiner lost his cool. If you dish it, be prepared to take it left, right and center.

Aussies are the biggest sooks in the game.

They say whatever they like and call it "banter" but when someone says something back they cry. Expected a lot better from them.

Remember Lehmann losing his cool and yelling the c-word in front of the Sri Lankan dressing room once? He called them black c****.

I'm loving seeing the SA's give it back to the Aussies, hope Rabada goes all out in the last game and gets in their face. Screw the suspension, the Aussies deserve it for their crying this series :sree

While I support Aussies in the game of cricket against SA, watching them get a dose of their own medicine always, always makes my day :)))

Virat kohli is did right thing to them by mocking aussies...they cant take it...
They really can't, it seems to take this team of their game.

Old Aussie teams were tougher than this and would use it to motivation.

A team has finally gotten in the face of the Aussies, and this Aussie team can't handle the heat.

Virat scored like 20 runs throughout that entire series.

Like yeah I do think Warner got what was coming to him from de Kock but lel this bit about big bad Kohli taking it to Australia when he scored less runs than Mitch Marsh did that series is a laugh.

Yes, yes, cricketing reasons. Which for 'stayans includes racial taunts and presenting black faces to Murali.

Sri Lankan manager Michael Tissera said he would not follow in the footsteps of the South Africans, who have formally complained of racist slurs from Australian crowds, but was upset nonetheless.

Australian crowds have continued to chant "no-ball" as Muralitharan runs in to bowl, in reference to his controversial action.

He was no-balled for throwing seven times during the 1995 Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne but subsequent scientific tests cleared him of any serious breach.

"It's not racial, we are not going to do anything on the racial side of it, but we are quite cheesed off that this abuse keeps going on and on and on," Mr Tissera said.

Sri Lanka themselves did not consider the taunts racial in nature at all.

Now this is lolworthy. According to you , one should only sledge if he is in form. That is cowardly which the Aussies are famous for. McGrath riled up innocuous Sarwan and when he retaliated , Big Glen chickened out. Ponting sledged to an apologetic Srinath after getting hit by a bouncer. Kohli had given it back in Australia when he scored loads of runs and latest ODI series in India. He does not care about whether he scores runs or not. An attitude is constant throughout your life whether it is bad or good.

Nah. According to me if you are going to claim that you achieved something from something you better actually achieve something.

His team did achieve something in that series. And thats what matters not the personal satisfaction in abusing others calling it mental disintegration and be a cry baby when getting back.

This is what Lehmann had to say about Stuart Broad no walk controversy "Certainly our players haven't forgotten, they're calling him everything under the sun as they go past," Lehmann said in an interview to the TripleM station. I hope the Australian public are the same because that was just blatant cheating. I don't advocate walking but when you hit it to first slip it's pretty hard."

Not liking it when the shoe's in the other foot Darren.

No mr. Lehmann, your racial outburst against the Sri Lankans way back in the good ol' days was much more disgraceful than anything the saffa cricketers or fan's have done.

Convict drawing the line yeah?

:)))

Nah. According to me if you are going to claim that you achieved something from something you better actually achieve something.

As captain of the team, he led and goaded them to crush and humiliate your team. What made it even more humiliating was that Australia felt like they could finally win in India and every time they reached within excitable distance, they got a bucket of dirty Indian water thrown at them.

Which series u talking about ....virat scored 4 centuaries on that tour....aussies are cry babies ...

Aussies whinging about personal and unsavoury remarks being made on the field ? Hi pot, meet kettle.

Bro ..the post was referring evebts to Kohli in AUS scored 4 centuries...I think not last Ind series. Scoring in India is not a big deal for Kohli ...

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has called for zero tolerance to anti-social behaviour by fans following the offensive comments made towards the Australians by members of the Cape Town crowd.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann yesterday confirmed CA had lodged an official complaint to Cricket South Africa in relation to "disgraceful" comments made by Newlands spectators that targeted the touring players' wives and families.

Nine patrons were ejected on day two for abusive behaviour, including one guest of a Western Province Cricket Club member who berated Australia vice-captain David Warner face-to-face as the dismissed opener made his way back to the dressing room.

CA employs a zero-tolerance policy to anti-social behaviour at venues on Australian soil and Sutherland 'strongly endorses' that all grounds adopt the same approach.

"We are extremely disappointed that a small number of fans have directed such offensive and inappropriate behaviour towards our players and members of their families," Sutherland said in a statement issued Saturday morning South African time.

"Our Chairman David Peever, who is in Cape Town, has taken the matter up directly with relevant CSA officials, including President Chris Nenzani.

"We acknowledge that CSA is taking steps to ensure incidents like those yesterday are not repeated and we have encouraged the strongest possible action in response to such behaviour.

"People who behave in such a manner should not be welcome at cricket grounds anywhere in the world, and together with the ICC and all member countries, we strongly endorse a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour by fans."

Lehmann said his players had been copping abuse all series but the offensive behaviour had escalated in Cape Town to a point where action had to be taken.

"I think it's been disgraceful," Lehmann said of the crowd behaviour.

Khawaja fumbles, Proteas take first-innings lead

"You're talking about abuse of various players and their families and personal abuse, it's not on at a cricket ground anywhere around the world, not just here. It shouldn't happen.

"You can have the banter, that's fine, banter is good-natured fun by crowds, but they've gone too far here.

"We've written to Cricket South Africa, Cricket Australia have done that, we'll see their response, but it's been poor.

"We'll see what happens, hopefully something."

Lehmann acknowledged crowds around the world, including Australia, need to "get better at watching the game of cricket".

Former Proteas gloveman Mark Boucher "fully agrees" with Lehmann, but said on Twitter Australia's crowds have been at fault in the past – a view endorsed by his former skipper Graeme Smith.

As part of the 2017-18 CA ticket and entry conditions, fans must "not use indecent or obscene language or threatening or insulting words, or otherwise behave in a threatening, abusive, riotous, indecent or insulting manner".

CA banned a fan from attending any official cricket match in Australia for racially abusing Proteas veteran Hashim Amla in the Hobart Test of 2016, and the governing body investigates any claims of anti-social behaviour at CA sanctioned matches.

This summer, a Perth Scorchers fan was thrown out of the KFC BBL semi-final at Optus Stadium and handed a three-year ban for offensive behaviour.

"Cricket Australia takes a zero-tolerance policy against anybody looking to come to the cricket and display anti-social behaviour," a CA spokesperson said at the time.

"Those looking to do so will face action from the relevant police authority and be issued with a ban notice to all Cricket Australia matches."

They really can't, it seems to take this team of their game.

That's a myth. The old Aussie team was equally vulnerable to teams giving it back to them. Steve Waugh used to act tough and talk about mental disintegration. India sledged them mercilessly in 1997-98 series and then in 2000-01, and won both times. Indians even used to sledge them in Hindi, which would rattle them even more, because they wouldn't understand what the heck they were saying!

Ganguly was a master of this. He'd deliberately show up 2 min late for the toss, make Steve wait and get him all worked up. Once Mumbai Ranji team completely destroyed Shane Warne's morale ahead of the Test match, first by hitting him to every corner of the park and then sledging him non-stop about his inability to bowl in India.

Saw the Bancroft incident guys?

Why so many posters are not showing any sympathy to AUS whinings.

How can a relatively new test player can do this from AUS team in front of so many cameras

Not guilty untill proven, but looks suspicious :warner :smith :rp :shhh

I hope CSA, Faf and Gibson go aggressive over this. Australians would have. Quite blatant ball tampering and Bancroft is not the only one to blame, he is probably the fall guy.

Candice Warner and Michael Vaughan going at it on Twitter now.

Been one controversy after another in this series.

Ball tampering is within the line.

Trying to hide the evidence is within the line.

Lying to and deceiving is within the line.

:shhh

Whatever happened in the past we should let go. Moving forward there should be no abuse of wives, mothers, sisters etc., nor racial abuse. I don't really want to be watch a game where grown men are behaving this way.

Now that we have the technology to pick up what players are saying, the ICC should crack down on this behavior.

This, Ganguly was the Imran of Indian team in terms of introducing aggression and fight especially after Sachin's softie captaincy

I swear Australia is always involved in this petty nonsense, whether it's them dishing it out or them getting it dished to them, either way, someone is crying about it somewhere.

Can Australia play like one series without any serious controversy ?

Got to say loving this, hopefully Saffers win this and Aussies will remember this tour for ever.

Whoa there mate. You better watch what you're saying. You're crossing the line :warner

You should post Vaughan's reply to that as well. Nails it.

Ok can someone clarify if the fans are hurling abuses at the wives and kids off the field?

OR are the SA fans and players abusing Australian cricketers calling them abuses which includes there wives and stuff??

I am alright with on field sledging and abuses as long as it’s not racial in nature and doesn’t get physical however if fans are targeting little kids outside the stadium then that’s just sick and anyone supporting it should get their brain checked.

Best the Aussies shut up about crossing lines from now on.

They've lost any right to the integrity of the game or lines being crossed after today.

Embarrassing.

On the bright side, South African fans probably won't be talking about the Australians' wives anymore.

They're in for a treat when they get to the Bullring for the final match.

They've finally been broken down and beaten at their own game. To the point of desperation where they have team meetings to discuss taking foreign objects onto the field to alter the ball.

Never seen a tamer Australian cricket team than this one.
