Do Countries Like Britain Need To Be Tougher On Asylum Applications?...

Had an interesting conversation with an Iranian national who is trying to renew his visa here...the general gist was this country is far too easy on asylum applications...

He came here on an academic visa and said it would have been easier had he just claimed asylum...as many he knows have...

Drug dealers and other criminals get asylum very easily here...being a criminal in another country doesn't necessarily count for much...because you can simply claim the laws in that country are abusive...or you were falsely imprisoned...and usually this works...

One of the most common means of getting in is by stating you are an apostate and are at risk of death...apostates are indeed at risk but this is working on the presumption that people are actually adherents to the religion they claim...

Obviously plucked out of the air but the suggestion was that likely 90% of asylum claims are false...and many of those are in no danger before coming here...many he said still visit Iran post asylum going via Turkey...

Obviously this is just an opinion and it could be false but the person i spoke to said it was shocking just how easy it is to get into Britain as an asylum seeker in comparison to nationals trying to come here using conventional means...

Anyone like to share what their thoughts are on Pakistani asylum seekers on the whole?...

I do also find it odd how a new rule is coming into effect which requires those applying for a visa to produce a criminal record check covering only the last ten years...surely it would be more prudent to have a check that covered people outright...

For all the criticism Britain gets it appears quite lax on these areas...how is it other countries?....

Britain should just withdraw from any involvement in war situations in Islamic countries, that way they would have no obligation to offer asylum whether genuine or not. As it is, it is obviously going to be a laborious process sifting the real asylum seekers from the fake but because we are heavily invested in those countries, then there isn't really an alternative.

Why we are offering asylum to Iranians though I am not really sure. What has their plight got to do with us?

IMO Britian should stop all asylum applications. Furthermore they shouldnt provide citizenship/benefits to anyone for 10 years for spouse married outside UK.

Next coming days will see Eastern Europeans leaving UK.

Sounds good. Britain should take in the lower strata of the citizens from other countries and make it difficult for the educated ones, so that they can stay back in their country of origin and work to make it better. This is the least Britain can do after leaving a mess in every country they have stepped foot into.

Such a small country with not so many resources yet so many people still apply asylum there, never understood the fascination of settling down in England in this millennium ,depressing weather,fewer job opportunities,housing crisis in major cities are only the few problems being faced by them.

Wonder if there is any data regarding White brits moving outside UK?

If they are applying for asylum I would have thought the attraction is pretty obvious - safety and shelter from oppression. Economic migration is possibly more difficult to understand, at least if it is from rising economies like India. I still don't understand why your PM was insisting we take more migrants from India as part of any trade deal.

Maybe remittances,guessing similar to why it was a big deal to England to sell us the jets and make some "Bangalore-Mumbai" corridors and what not hogwash stuff.

First, the West needs stop to arming terror groups so people do not become refugees and flee their countries. The UK, France and the rest bomb other countries and collude with terror groups then complain about refugees. Hypocrites.
