Do the kids today view cricketers as highly as we did back in the day. I mean I used to watch cricket in the 2000s
Such Iconic cricketers and names
Gilchrist, Hayden, Ponting, Warne, McGrath
Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib
Kallis, Donald, Pollock
Sachin, Yuvraj, Dravid, Sehwag, Ganguly
Jayasuria, Sanga, Mahela , Murali
Lara
Flintoff
Just to name a few
I mean were we just lucky to witness these players. They left such an impact. Their auras and personalities were so unique from each other and these were big big names too. Besides a few players today that I can count on one hand-none of them have personality or any uniqueness about them.

we do but not as much

The cricketers of 1970 and mid 1980s were awesome.U still see old videos of the then.I lost interest around mid 90s.Now there aren’t any iconic cricketers around. There is too much cricket especially T20 so people have lost interest in UK.

Why go to 2000s. Go even further back to 1940s. There is no batsman greater than Don Bradman. The batting talent has been all downhill after that.

maybe its just me, but the way players were spoken about, especially test players seemed different. like even if pak were playing india in a test match, youd hear people talking about dravids technical ability, the level of respect in cricket discussions around test matches is just different.

to me at least there was very definitely a sense of test players being portrayed as role models, i.e. competitive but gentlemanly, patient, judicious, temperate, etc.

i remember wanting to come home as soon as possible after school to watch the last few hours of the home tests whenever they were on. i don't think many 8 or 9 year olds in pak would still do that.

the extreme professionalism of t20 cricket to me has made a lot of cricket basically a cookie cutter product which just varies is quality a bit. there is no overarching narrative, and i dont see how a young kid could get fascinated by players turning out for 3 or 4 teams a year.

i guess what im sayin is what the kids really need is less t20 and a pak ind test series instead.

Hard to say, the British Asian kids love the star players of India and Pakistan for sure.

When I was 13, I used to idolise:

Inzimam
Trescothic
Flintoff
Pietersen (15 years old)
Ganguly
Jayasuriya
Vaas
Gayle
Brett Lee
McGrath
Ponting (The greatest antagonist in cricket history)
Pollock
Graeme Smith (favourite captain)

I wouldn't be surprised if they do not. The cricketers, at least the Pakistani, in the 90s had a lot of flare and persona. The were stars and acted like it too.

The players that he have today have very boring personalities which tbh aren't that impressive.

yes they do.

I was very surprised when many of them challenged me and beat me in fantasy leagues last year. They know all the stats and may put some of the debaters on pp to shame with their fierce defending of fav players.
