Only Tugga has an absolute claim to being an ATG.

The others are either not or may or may not be for the following reasons:

1) Unfulfilled potential (AB)

2) Lack of consistency (Pollock, Dravid, Crowe)

3) Injuries (Waqar)

4) Lack of ruthlessness (Walsh, de Villers, Crowe)

5) Politics and circumstances outside of their control (Andy Flower)

Lol..each and every player you mentioned is certified great..Everyone barring Flower and Crowe are undoubtally ATGs..

ATGs and truly great cricketers aren't same. I think these names are ATGs but not sure if all the ones who will fall into truly great cricketers of all-times.

You want to discuss if Younis, one of the fastest, deadliest, all format performers, who could swing conventional and reverse, could bounce and york, is worthy of being an ATG?

LOL

This thread needs to be locked or something.

I want to discuss if these names belong to the truly great cricketers list which is reserved for the likes of Richards, Tendulkar, Imran, Warne, McGrath, Sobers, Lara, Murali and Akram.

Btw, Waqar hasn't done anything memorable in World Cup.

Those players are certainly not in leagues of Viv, SRT, IK, Warne etc. Not sure why you need to even discuss it. No one puts the names listed by you with the likes of Viv, SRT, IK , Warne, Wasim etc.

I would say only Waqar, Rahul and Waugh would be considered as greats. The rest are also rans.

A guy with the best bowling SR in the history of test cricket while taking 373 wickets at an avg of 23.56 is a legend

All top draw players. Waqar is an ATG. He was a superb bowler. Those who saw him from 89-93 won't forget. Injuries reduced him thereafter but still excellent.

There is no rule which says you can only have a certain number of ATGs, and then the bus is full.

It's a subjective thing on who is better than who when it comes to the best of the best - but in my view, any player who has consistently in his career delivered outstanding performances which on THAT given day could perhaps not be bettered by anyone let's say, is worthy of being ranked as an ATG. To illustrate this point, as batsmen not many will mention Mohammed Azharuddin or Aravinda De Silva as up there in ATG teams, but anyone who saw these two fine players at their peak against top quality bowling will rank them as ATGs, whatever the stats or averages tell us -- yes, please try to convince me that Joe Root or Alastair Cook is a better batsman than Azharuddin or De Silva :)

Can't agree more. Only Tugga.

ABD is not even fit to be discussed on such an August topic.
