Does 'being good' mean little in ODIs/T20Is if you don't win the silverware?

This relates more to England and India who currently have their best ever LOI sides. If they do not collect the cups to reflect the quality - does it amount to 'a big nothing'?

You feel E/I are at their peaks and may not get a better chance for these superb players to get their rewards.

South Africa is perfect example of this. Historically been a great ODI side but has hardly any multinational silver to show off. Just thr 1998 CT I think

For a team, yes they have to win something tangible. For individual players, no because it is a team game after all.

Yes, at the end of the day, no one remembers bilateral series but people will always remember silverware.

Yes for a team. It doesn't matter for specific players as long as they do well in tournaments.

How's this India's best side? Top 5 of our batting lineup consists of KL Rahul, Vijay Shankar and Jadhav. We have an incredibly successful top 3 (assuming dhawan being fit) but a very ordinary middle order.

For the first time in your history you have the best batsman and best bowler in the world.

It sucks you lost Dhawan though :(

Kohli + Sharma just need to put runs on the board and Kuldeep, Chahal, Jasprit will do the rest

It depends on the pedigree of the team: for instance, I would call the current Bangladesh team, good because they are able to bat big. Their batsmen and style of play is keeping up with the trends. Their bowling is still a work in progress, but it’s only a matter of time.
As opposed to say South Africa: they’ve had a pretty good team for most of the time since re-admission but they have not won any trophies.
