Have been watching many clips on tv and its pretty telling that plenty of protestors in Defence, Clifton i.e. the posh elite rich educated class areas of Karachi and most were spouting abuse at PTI and Imran Khan for their plight.
Some of the criticism is fair because PTI did win plenty of National Assembly and Provincial Assembly seats in Karachi, the President of the country Arif Alvi won his NA seat in Defence, Faisal Vawda, Ali Zaidi, Aamir Liaqat Hussain, Asad Umar won their seats for Karachi. Imran Khan won their seats from Karachi.
PTI's argument in the last 2 years has been that they are unable to intervene in Karachi's affairs beyond a certain point because the 18th Amendment has given all the powers to the Provincial Government. To be fair to the PTI, every time IK and PTI have talked about taking control of Karachi via making it a federal capital or governors rule, Bilawal has screamed in Press Conferences about a conspiracy against Sindh which i find funny because every time something goes wrong in Khi, his party goes missing and passes the buck to the federal government.
However i do want to ask, do the national assembly and provincial assembly members get any development funds? If yes, how much? Do they have the discretion on how and what kind of projects are to be invested in?
I must admit that i am personally dissapointed that both Arif Alvi, IK have not visited Khi as of yet given the emergency situation on the ground. When the residents of Defence and Clifton feel compelled to undertake a violent mutiny against the Defence Housing Authority and Clifton Cantonment Board officials, you know how dire the situation is.
