My hair has always been thin, like since I was 13. I haven't had like a blade 4 on top or below in over 5 years. Basically I haven't cut my hair shorter than team man, in this exact smiley :yk2

I was just wondering, if I cut my hair completely, will there be any difference? Will my hair grow back fairly thicker?
Some people say its just a myth while others say it has worked for them. I'm sure many PPers have done Umrah and Hajj or generally have gone bald, has it worked for you?

If I cut my hair to this level, will it be helpful?

(excuse this random mexican dude, was the only pic google could provide!)

Take it from Uncle Robert: no!
Really? I am only in 6th form at the moment, I don't think I'm gonna lose my hair for another 5 years at least!
But my hair is really badly thin and flies all over the place, especially with this wretched windy UK weather.

Propecia + Minoxidil + Nizoral

That's all you need. It should let you maintain for many, many years.

Toppik to hide the thinning, if really needed.

You are too young to be worried about that. Don't be paranoid so early, thin hair at this age does not mean you will be losing hair anytime soon. Also by the time you are in your late 30s which is when the problem usually occurs for men there will hundred of advance ways to regrow your hair. So in short don't even spend a minute worrying about it, you have long long ways to go.

No.

People think it does because, when you have long hair, you notice its fall more. Especially in the shower after shampooing or when you brush your hair. Short hair is less noticable and also doesn't stay stuck in the hair.

Don't concern yourself with it: if it's going to fall, it's going to fall - unless you take medicine which I think is stupid since it's just an aesthetic pursuit.

Tried that once I first noticed my hair falling, not sure if it worked but I didn't get bald.

these desi totkay always reminds me of an older friend who upon an uncle's advice shaved his head for the same reason as you suggest. The hair never grew back again :misbah

Do a blade one and apply pure oils regularly.

Caffeine in coffee form also helpful. Stop using shampoo and oil your hair with black seed/olives regularly and mustard weekly .

I don't necessarily think I'm getting bald but I do have very thin hair and have had it for as long as I can remember...I can never get a quiff sadly lol.

Are these proven to help bro? Either way I will, desperate time calls for desperate measures lol

I'm too young, exactly! But its to do with genetics, even then, my dad lost his hair round his 30s too

I'm 19 soon :( :(
you're making me crap my pants, I've been told several times that Blackseed and Castor oil are the best. Have you tried these products?

They are the only things clinically proven to work. But see your doctor/dermatologist first, determine if it's really Male Pattern Baldness. Some people get some specific side effects with Propecia, so the doc can recommend if you can take it at your age, and if it's even needed.

Minoxidil and Nizoral will help even if it's not MPB. Nizoral in particular keeps the scalp very healthy.

If you're really concerned with appearance, look into Toppik. You'll probably only need a little dusting of it.

Do not be a fool and use any medication, if your hair are going to fall then they will fall, you can't do anything to prevent that. So please respect your body, your health and do not consume any medication.

It is your Genetics, you can't prevent it from falling, no medication, no desi tota, nothing will. The only solution you have is hair transplant.

You need to try it out and then get back to all of us in need. Take one for the team!

Balding is hereditary. Cannot stop it.

If you have a parent or an uncle that has balded very early, then you have a decent chance that you might follow the same route.

Stressing will only accelerate the process.

With Stem Cell research providing a lot of hope for people suffering from various diseases and conditions, may be hair fall also has a solution.

Read about how Stem Cell therapy can help balding people. Only issue is, we may not see any medication or therapy that is accessible for people for another decade or so.

I also started run as was rotund then they came back healthy ... Get organic virgin coconut oil - the very best.

Shave completely as if you are shaving your stubble. Then do massage with some good oil while they are growing. You wll get thicker and stronger hair. Make sure you shampoo your hair everyday.

I had to shave my head for Hajj in 2002, I looked like a potato for a few weeks but my new here was no different to my old hair. No change at all, not that I was look forward to it because I'm in love with hair.

Although my brother did tell me that I'd lose my silky hair which made me cry for a few days.

Minoxidil does work, I knew a person who used it. Not sure about the other things, though. Esp shaving your head.

You have to put that foam on twice a day for the rest of your life, if you stop all of a sudden you experience extreme shedding. The whole purpose of using that regain foam is so that, before the regrowth process begins you experience shedding but then after that your hair regrows but if you stop using the foam all of a sudden you experience extreme shedding and lose all the hair you had before you began to use the regain foam.

It's not worth worrying about it or using those treatments you stated because their is nothing out there that actually helps you, waste of time and money. Best to embrace a bald look. People can opt for a transplant but there are risks to that as well and its expensive

@ the OP don't know if it helps but my barber would always say keep your hair short if it's thin :yk

Having your hair trimmed with a manual trimmer. The nightmare of every Pakistani kid growing up in the 80s/90s.

True enough, but it's a small nuisance for someone with enough hair lost already to make the re growing effort worthwhile. For someone just beginning to lose, Propecia plus Nizoral will do.

I don't use Minoxidil myself, because I'm happy with what I have, but I've been popping a Propecia pill for seventeen years. Only now has it finally started losing its efficacy, and I'm considering Dutasteride.

The dreaded fauji cut they forced you to have, with the lower half of the head buzzed.

Don't you want the scholarly respectability that comes with being bald in the center and white on the sides?

Still more bearable than the katora cut.

what was that?

in Karachi there was one called burger cut where you had 2-3 inches shaved off on the back and side in sort of a ring

never understood how that was popular. have you heard of it? thank god its extinvt now

If your dad is bald you will be bald aswell there is nothing you can do about it. Your scalp will bald no matter what. What you can do is shave your head and tattoo your head. Cheapest and most hassle free solution.

I thought the fauji cut was the katora cut?

In our school, they would prescribe what grade of katora/fauji cut to get, depending on the year. If you look at army cadets, the amount buzzed changes as they approach passing out. So it was for us.

They would even call us by the Gentleman Cadet variant based on year. So GC meant progressively Gutter Cleaner, Grass Cutter, Girl Chaser and finally Gentleman Cadet. It wasn't even a military school, just the only decent school in the city. Luckily I only had to spend a year there, since I lived overseas.

But during that one year, I got a Girl Chaser haircut and a Gentleman Cadet haircut.

In the fullness of time. I think I can maintain for another fifteen years on Dutasteride before I finally give up.

I think Burger cut is another name for Katora/Mushroom cut.

I was in an Army school from 3rd to 6th grade and they gave me a katora cut in the middle of the ground in front of girls because I had refused to get a haircut. Left me red faced and with red eyes, thanks to the manual trimmer.

Have you experienced any side effects below the belt? :))

When I first started to lose hair I was like 20 I think and use to stress/panic etc and then I began to use the regain foam but it got to a point where i couldn't keep up with the twice a day but would once a day, anyhow I just gave up at one point and then all of a sudden experienced extreme shedding and lose all I had before i started to use regain. Since then I never used anything again and over a 2-3 yr period pretty much have lost all my hair, everything gone in the crown area and in the front there is enough for me to apply toppik to conceal the lack of hair.

Usually when there is an occasion, I cover my crown with toppik and apply it at the front. Besides that wear hats all the time :)) Am not as concerned as i was when i was 3 years ago, will look to sport a bald look permanently soon. Plus I think going by how bad my loss was no treatment can help me, each treatment propecia/minioxidil works differently for everyone.

And even if the propecia etc would work on me, i wouldn't be able to take those pills for the rest of my life. However from the research I've done propecia is the best out there to deal with the loss? and it works even better in tandem with minioxidil. I might consider a transplant at some point in the future although it's unlikely.

No sides, and I've got three kids to show for it ;)

I use Toppik too for special occasions, like interviews, dinner parties etc.

Propecia isn't totally effective on frontal loss, but it does preserve the crown and the middle. So for a transplant, if I ever go that route, there's less to do and more donor area.

You could try Alpecin caffein shampoo.

My cousin says the stuff def works, just use 3 times a week and leave on the hair for 2 minutes before washing it off.

After approx 3 months you may see some hair growing back.

It worked for him who knows it may work for you.

That typical british pakistani haircut is the worst hair cut I have seen.

Wanted to share some pics, but when I googled british pakistani male, all I got was mugshots of criminals. Couldn't find a decent pic.

Lol you can take my crappy silky hair, I'm sick of it.
since you're a doctor, is there any truth to this supposed myth tho?

lol don't want to look like a roadman

Ye I've been recommended this quite a lot. Have you noticed a change in your cousins hair?

Thanks for this relevant post . And there is no 'typical Pakistani haircut' anymore. Before it used to be like the mexican dude I posted in the OP but now many people have different hair styles...a lot style their hair up rather than that skinfade on side stuff.

Yea definitely, not only it stopped the hair loss but also grew some of it back as well.

The only thing I will say is the product doesn't work for everyone but there's no harm giving it a go.

Shaving/Trimming hair doesn't make em thicker. It's genetic.

Not sure about burning the hair. Slash&Burn works for crops, maybe on your hair too, try it :yk

Been using Regaine for about a year and has deffo slowed down the process however I miss applying it all the time supposed to be twice daily and on average probably apply it once at best.

It can't slow down the process. It is a re growth med, not a DHT inhibitor. Propecia is the thing that will slow it or stop it.

Like I said I haven't been using it properly ie missing applications but yes initially when I did hair did seem to regrow.

Bump I’m turning 32 soon and starting to notice sudden thinning and hair fall too since quarantine.. as per doc its MPB .. and doc subscribed what as been subscribed in above posts, synthetic drugs and the foam.. which am not looking for guessing going bald way to go.

I assumed that I crossed 31 without hair loss so it wouldn’t happen(my dad started by 28) but lol genetics caught up..

How did it go for the op?

I had extreme dry scalp and hair fall in my 20’s, all my friends had a bet I would go bald before 30 but somehow managed to keep a full crop of hair till my mid 30’s.

Only recently started noticing a thin patch :(( but luckily can still be covered with a strategic combover Lol.

By the way all those friends bar 1 are all visibly bald now :)

my hair started thinning at 17, i spent three years trying to cover it but by 20 it was too late and i chose the skin head route.

my hairline hasn't changed for a long time now, although I lost a significant amount in my late teens and early twenties. i know there is no real evidence, but i have found having a skin head the best way to keep my scalp healthy.

id be lying if i said i wasn't somewhat jealous of dudes with an awesome head of hair, but it is what it is.

I was only just starting to lose hair (like I could notice slight thinning) when this thread started.

5 years later it has thinned quite a bit with hairline slightly receding but thankfully no real bald patches so only I know the truth. Or if someone spends extra amount of time analyzing my hair.

As for thread. When I did Umra I shaved it all off. Initially it seems better hair is coming but after it has grown back to normal levels it’s all the same

My uncle used that regaine stuff and his hair did come back naturally without any problem, but its been a while now, also this thread is 5 years old, i wonder what the new developments are in medicine for this problem, as i have also had a bit of hair thinning.

Its at the same place.. I was told Rogaine foam and propecia -tablet only this week..

Is propecia and finasteride the same?

Same and I don't think its available over the counter either so you gotta shell out useless consultation fee, Rogaine is avl over the counter.

Doesn't Rogaine potentially cause heart palpitations and propercia potentially has sexual side effects. They sound too scary to take tbh.

Propercia aka Finesteride, is safe if you use 3 times a week at a qtr of a dose per day. It smashes your libido if you take 5 mg per day etc. It stays in your system for upto a month, so no need to take such a heavy dose. The key is always take it small and slow and you can reap its benefits.. However there is a risk, if you want to save your hair you must be willing to take a chance and come to the dark side... :sm

I am not a doctor but some people who have taken finestaride got the sexual sides and the sides remained even though they were off the drugs. You can see these videos on YouTube. You are essentially playing with your hormones. However, its up to each person to decide whether it is worth it.

Arnt they availble on presciption in uk

In US i see it requiring prescription not sure about UK

Dunno but thats what am probably not gonna take it for 6 months, unless the condition worsens at rapid rate.

The doc had prescribed me 1 mg a day..

1mg/day is too much imo. Ideally you want to use 1mg every 4 days. Take a pill cutter and cut it into 4, use a qtr each day and repeat for the week. I feel it will protect your hair from falling out and be side affect free.. Upto you, try it and see how you go.

Correction I meant to say a qtr every other day I meant to say...

I shave my head off sometimes (to avoid going to barber). It doesn't have any impact on my hair.

Are your baby making plans complete ? if so then I'd not mind going for Finerstride :yk then again quiet a few have not had any issues in that regard despite taking the drug however your hormonal levels are bound to decrease in any case, most of the remedies out there are manufactured to achieved that purpose primarily. I would personally just work with what I have and not worry about it, I suppose the fellas who are single / looking for a spouse ought to put thought into it perhaps or maybe just a personal thing

lol, naw I dunno i’m not a fan of synthetic drugs and i prefer using it for other serious issues..although this is super serious too :P

Plus I’m sure genetics (Dads side) will catch up someday whats the point running away ,have to accept it.
