Does the possibility of a 'Cornered Tigers' resurgence excite you as a fan of the game?

As highly unlikely it could be, but as a true fan of this game, the possibility of Pakistan turning things at the bottom end f the leagues stages, winning 4 in a row playing like cornered tigers really excites me.

And I am calling it right here right now, if by any chance Pakistan wins 4 in a row here and make it to the semis, any team will fear to face them in the KOs.

Having said that, the road is tough and we must give due respect to other contenders as well i.e., Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, England who all are still in the hunt.

Without a question though, all eyes will be set on the men in green.

Their unpredictability makes them dangerous.

If they get their team balance right and find that hunger and desire in their heart to match fire with fire, they will play arguably the best brand of cricket to entertain cricket fans and be once again the wild horses we all love to cheer for.

I know a few people will have questions over the intentions of this thread being a mock thread or full of sarcasm etc but let me put it straight guys i have always loved big hearted players and teams. I celebrated when Pakistan defeated England. It was a triumph of cricket. I don’t believe in Pakistan cricket system but I believe in their madness for cricket. There is always a new day and he cliche goes you never know which Pakistan will turn up the one who would surrender or he one to be afraid of.

Fakhar, Imam, Bobby are all good young batsmen. If things go well they are capable of setting big scores for Pakistan, big enough to bat any team out of the match.

Pakistan is yet to unleash Husnein. I have no idea why. The kid can bowl fast and has a mystery element to him. Just unleash the monster and see how it goes. There is nothing to lose now.

Amir with 13 wickets is already among the best in the tournament.

Wahab, Shaheen can all pull off big performances.

Do not judge Shadab, Imad by what India did to them. Even on bad days India eats spinners for breakfast. They can both win matches for Pakistan against other teams.

Continue believing.

I want Pakistan in he semis.

I want another showdown. I am brave and my afraid of losing.

This World Cup will be set alive if Pakistan manage to turn things around.

As an indian but fan of pak cricket too , it will be a delight to see pak in semis . If they can win next 4 they truly deserve to be in it

alas all these years I have seen one thing - World Cup is won by teams that play well over a long time and handle pressure well . Pakistan has not won wc since 1992 its a testimonial to that .

Australia has been the benchmark of handling pressure . Note how their players are coming back to form in the premier event .India under Ganguly seems to have learnt to handle pressure and Dhoni is the finished product - the 2012 wc was one I remember - 3 dropped catches of Sachin in semis !

England is just learning it isn’t as good as it thought . Let’s see if they have the players to play under pressure .

Bangladesh is actually been performing well under pressure - feel they have borrowed ur stripes !

I truly hope that pak batting and bowling click as it’s gonna be crazy entertainment to see Amir bamboozle batters but doubt it as your captain is not Imran Khan
 
Absolutely. Love it when teams like PAK, SL, WI pull off upsets against teams like England. Forget fans. Even neutrals love to support the underdog, David . What makes it even more exciting is the fact that these wins are few and far between and that makes things very interesting. You never know when that upset happens and when these teams are completely written off as minnows is when they come up with these Goliath-killing perfornances. Cricket needs the X factor brought by such teams to counter -balance the clinical ruthlessness of teams like India and England.
 
If I was a Pakistani even I would be hating cliches like cornered tigers, unpredictables, natural talent etc etc but this is what defines Pakistan cricket as much as you hate it.

In 2017 when you were down and out in the middle of the tournament, no one had heard much of Fakhar Zaman. He got like 2-3 back to back big knocks to give the title to you. Hasan Ali also wasn’t known much and he bowled the ball of the tournament during his tremendous run in that tourney. That’s the individual brilliance Pakistan is capable of displaying many other mid tier teams cannot.

Who knows. Husnein hasn’t been u leashed yet. Maybe hes the guy who will turn things around.

I know the odds are quite low.

I would say as of today Pakistan has like 20-30% chance if making it to the semis.

Focus on the next game only. It’s important to beat South Africa.

There is nothi impossible here yet. 4 matches don’t make for a huge Streak. It’s doable.

yeah by Wednesday if we have defeated SA and Nz, yeah tgen maybe one could start to believe.. but winning 4 matches in row for a team which has won 4/25 matches (with other results going your way is asking too much)

Wait for the meltdown on the forum once Bangladesh beats us.
 
A possibility of a "Cornered Tigers" resurgence requires a leader like Imran Khan to be present in this team.

Sadly this lot don't have that.

A cornered Tiger approach requires bravery and the ability to inspire even the donkeys in the team. It makes them believe that they can overcome anything and they lose the fear of losing.

With this lot? Forget it.
 
Not excited at all. Because a) There’s nothing exciting about this Pakistan team. Babar is the only exciting player. b) I know what will happen if they reach the semis. They’ll somehow win/fluke this World Cup. That’s not good for the game or the future of Pakistan cricket. What I want to see is a strong Pakistan team with specialist batsmen and bowlers.
 
I think the cornered tigers phrase is only popular in pakistan. Rest of the world just see pakistan as an inconsistent side- I dont see how the current pak team is any different ftom west indies or srilanka in that regard.
If anything, the windies are even more talented , more dangerous but just as inconsistent.

As a NZ fan I know the windies game is probably more dangerous than pakistan. If we play well vs pakistan in england we should win, vs the windoes its not as clear, they might collapse but they could also wreck the bowling

Pakistan last won a 50 over World Cup 27 years ago.

They haven't been fluking it even when they reached the semis in 2011.

Why are you so scared of Pakistan reaching the semis.

If they do, that will be the end of the line.

They could even lose in the final like in 99' World Cup.

This peddling of myth that Pakistan are unstoppable when they reach the semis or finals has GOT to STOP.

True. I am expecting same fate against Afghanistan though. Cornered tigers was coined after the team who had a brilliant and fit captain, who was aggressive and full of passion, completely unlike the idiot we sent to our world cup squad. That person has zero match awareness & is pathetic and unfit for sports because of his casual lazy fitness.
 
Cornered tigers is nonsense and should be kept away from the next generation of Pakistan players.

I used the word fluke because of the way they play these days. If this team reaches the semis, they’ll be under no pressure. They’ll then play with that nothing to lose attitude, which honestly is dangerous. Elders often tell you to not fight with someone who has nothing to lose. Such people are always very dangerous. Pakistan team is like that. Nobody would want to play against them in a knockout match :).

The mediocrity of the Pakistan Team is obvious to anybody & everybody by now. Further if this team is relying on other good teams to loose so it could make ti the knockouts then that's not a sign of c exciting cricket any more. If the Pakistan team is destined to loose in the semis even if it makes it by an outside chance then I would rather see a more deserving team in the semis

If a team can give its best only when it gets "cornered" and not otherwise then the chances of qualifying for the knockout stage becomes that much difficult. "Cornered" tiger may get the better of lesser predators who have cornered him, but he will have no hope of survival if cornered by elephants.

Pakistan does not deserve to be in the semi-finals.

India, Australia, New Zealand, and England (in this order) have proved to be the best 4 teams in the tournament and should play the knockouts ahead of mediocre teams like Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka, etc.

Based on how they've played so far, yes.

But if they do win the next 4, they will be as worthy as anyone. If consistency is the only thing that deserves to be rewarded, we need not have a WC. Just give it to the No.1 team like they do in test matches.
 
I don't understand one thing why current & former players, pak management everyone is giving one statement in common for many years now, 'pakistan has the most talent in the world', every team has talent every team produced & producing special players but no one is self conceits as pakistan cricket community it is disrespectful to other countries they should stop this nonsense, i think imran khan referred the cornered tiger for inspiring his team back then pakistan is a strong team mind it, i think pakistan's regression started in the 2007 world cup slowly, they started playing very badly from 2014 onwards, come out of this natural talent, cornered tigers, unpredictable tags, another thing come out of this fast bowling myth in cricket you need batsman also don't forget pakistan is busy in only finding fast bowlers one after the other, in recent years pakistan has introduced more fast bowlers than batsman it should stop.
 
It will just be regular and expected thing that all of the top 4 teams get to the semis and either of australia or india wins. Whats the fun in this?
 
Cornered tigers, unpredictability etc. mean nothing. They are just fancy terms to glorify mediocrity and inconsistency, and that is what Pakistani players and fans do because of their rotten mentality.

Anyway, India’s 1983 World Cup was a far bigger cornered tigers moment than Pakistan’s 1992 triumph, but you won’t see India hang onto it because they have elite mentality and don’t celebrate mediocrity.
 
Cornered tiger or not, a strong Pakistan cricket is very important for international cricket.

As much as providing a good laugh because of their collapses, Pakistan team can leave one in awe by their comebacks. Unfortunately, the leaving others in awe has been few and far between lately.

The game against Aus was the best example. From a strong position, they had a collapse, but then thanks to Hassan Ali and Wahab, they were suddenly in the game again. As a neutral, I love the drama they provide.

If they have a couple of lucky results for other teams and somehow Pakistan make it to the semis on 9 points, I expect them to lose again in the semis. Unfortunately, for the likes of PCB and Sarfaraz, that will be a victory and nothing will be done to fix the problems plaguing domestic cricket.

Counting on luck won't help bcoz it will balance out over a period of time.
Pakistani players were on cloud 9 after ct 2017 ,they lost against nz but they ignored it ,then came asia cup and they realised they are in the same condition that they were pre chamipons trophy ,Sarfaraz was still proud about being unpredictable but luck balances out over a period of time and this time pakistan wont get into the semis.
In accordance with the law of luck equilibrium pakistan will get booted out of this tournament even after giving some good performances in last matches most probably on basis of NRR and that will hurt.:jk

It's an idea that has a lot of romance due to Pakistan's history, even for any neutral fan.

But that Cornered Tiger Miracle was led by a man like Imran... It cannot be done by Sarfraraz. Cold, hard truth.

New Zealand has 60% chance of winning as long as Taylor and Williamson are at crease. If they get out only then England will be favourites. So Pakistan are still ahead of England to qualify

Williamson and taylor are good for chasing 240-260 not 300.
