Double standard of Pakistani fans regarding Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq

I don't understand the double standard of Pakistani fans. On one side they criticise Imam ul Haq for being the nephew of Chief Selector and advocate that he should be replaced by Shan Masood but they forget that Shan Masood was also there because of the fact that his father was a member of PCB Governing Council. He got chances in the national team only becuase of the influence of his father.

I am pretty sure if Shan is given a chance of playing ODIs, he would also be striking at 85 runs per 100 balls. I dont see him going at over 100 SR.
There must be some reason that he is not considered as a good T20 player. In my opinion, the reason is because he cannot score at a quick rate just like Imam. So to me it won't make much difference if Imam is replaced by Shan.

These double standards will always remain. Since Imam is a nephew of one of the greatest Pakistani batsman ever, he is an easier target. Shan's father is not well known in Pakistan's circles. I'm sure not even 1% of the posters here would be able to tell the name of Shan's father. Therefore he gets more leeway despite both being "nepotistic" selections.

This is exactly how Faisal Iqbal was vilified because he was the nephew of Javed Minadad - a well known figure while Fawad Alam escapes all scrutiny because his father, Tariq Alam, isn't that well known.

The only way players can get out of this is by performing. Imam is doing exactly that. Shan did well in 1 Test series (even though he wasn't outstanding but still better than everyone else). Fawad responded well by being the best domestic performer. But you could see the weight of being called "nepotistic selection" consuming Faisal Iqbal totally despite him being a good performer in the domestics.

These short of double standards will always remain. You can't do much. Just go out there and perform. Block the haters.

If siblings or relatives can play good cricket and prove they are worth a position in the team, then everything else becomes irrelevant.

Let’s look back in history and say for a minute if Majid Khan (the legendary batsman, not me) was the one who recommended his young cousin Imran and had influence in his selection back back in 1971 - if Pakpassion was around then, after seeing Imrans debut many of us would be writing him off calling him club level and only selected due to nepotism. Of course history went on tell us a different story about Imran Khan.

And it may well end up similarly for Shan and Imam, time will tell, no matter how they came into the team. Not that I’m for selection favours to friends and relatives, but at the same time you can’t go the other way and have a culture where someone like chief selector Abdul Qadir opposed his son from being selected because he would get accused of nepotism.

For every Miandad - Faisal uncle / nephew combo , there are also success stories like the Chappel brothers, Greme Pollock, his brother Peter and his nephew Shaun, Majid and cousin Imran, and the Mohammed brothers.. the Waugh twins. If I’m not mistaken are Junaid Khan and Yasir Shah also related ?

Shans father was part of the board of governors of the PCB and when he was first drafted into the team it was just embarrassing watching him lile someone trying to wing it in a Thesis Defence of someone elses thesis. Granted he looked good in this test series but before this including when he was playing in the UAE he was just horrible. Shans father is a very rich and influential man and as we know in Pakistan money talks. Imam from his selection has played ok especially in ODI’s he has a great average and he has performed in all of the series he has played both home and away. Whenever people say Shan masood should be made captain I don’t understand the fickleness of it, one good series does not make you an automatic selection for everything. There is some inferiority complex at play as well as the Billionaires son speaks great English but that can not be justification to put him at the front of the line to be coptain. In the past he has shown himself be be a mediocre cricketer one series helps the process in dispelling that but does not dispel totally

I don't care whether you have a Sifarish or not as long as you deliver when you get your chance in the team. People complaining about Sifarish and nepotism need to wake up and smell the coffee, in Pakistan even to get good things done or things that your right, you need to use a Sifarish, contact, relationship, sifarish.

When was the last time Shan got a man of the series award, that too away from home. Don't focus too much on stats in a below par FC system.

True but Imam is gettin a lot more trolling compared to Shan. Imam had been performing solidly before his selection Shan was plucked out of thin air initially

imam proved himself in this series before this it was just minnows.

i think shan should come in for malik... he honestly can't do worse.
and yes, shan wasn't even a test batsman and he was selected for tests

the premise of your thread is totally wrong

Imam selection was unfair because he had done nothing in List A, he was selected because he was the nephew of the Chief Selector

Shan was selected because he has been the most prolific List A batsmen in Pakistan in the last 3 years. Whatever his father does really doesn't matter, he had domestic performances to back him up
