The Pakistani team never really gets media attention for its game as other teams do. Especially during the rise of the FAB 4 when the likes of Smith, Williamson had everyone's attention. Root was the the blue eyed English boy.

While Kohli, when he arrived in England for the 2019 World Cup, the media attention was on Kohli and his men. During that same World Cup, our Sarfraz Ahmad wasn't given that much attention even though he was the Champions Trophy winner.

This time around its different, due to his text book orthodox style of playing cricket and what he has achieved, Babar Azam has all the media frenzy. The young captain of the Pakistan side was the man to sought after during the recent photoshoot. His birthday was celebrated and all eyes were on him.

Similarly, Rizwan is getting attention due to his crazy form, Shaheen is being sought after and even Shadab Khan has many female fans going crazy.

Babar just met Gavaskar and was presented with a Sunny cap.

Surely, this Pakistani team has got all the eyes and attention, just shows when you have quality players and doing well, the attention comes on you

What matters is how the team does eventually and how many tournaments and matches it wins.

May be you are just reading articles or seeing pictures which has pak team and members only.

I think top teams consider Babar as a genuine top 4-5 level batsman and they have respect for Rizwan, Shaheen, Rauf and maybe Shadab. The rest of the team is tbh pretty week by top team standards.

I doubt international media and top teams will be too worried about Pakistan this World Cup outside of 3 or 4 players in the team. Pakistan is without a doubt a genuine underdog in this tournament.

Does that put extra pressure on Babar?

Should PCB be trying their best to keep him out of the limelight?

This is the first time a Pakistani captain is getting proper media attention since 1996 world cup. That was the last time a Pakistan captain got attention from media in any proper capacity.

Even in 1999 world cup ( before it’s start, western media was obsessed with Steven Waugh & Hansie Cronje). Pakistan only got attention after winning against Australia in group stage.

2009 again Younus was totally ignored. Return of cricket to Pakistan has also helped from PR perspective. And somewhere down the line ( West) has acknowledged our hospitality. Finch giving cake to Babur was no small thing.

Absolutely right....Babar is very much respected throughout world..
Aakash Chopra in his YouTube channel always praises Babar,Fakhar, Shaheen, Shadab and Rizwan, even nowadays Nawaz is respected a lot by many players... and media persons.
Ricky Ponting always talks about Babar.
Naseer Hussain praises and respects many Pakistani players...

Good post, didnt 2009 world t20 had attention on pakistan?

Surely it should had been that way because of the way the team was doing in t20.

2010 t20 had some hype i guess regarding pakistan

Babar only getting extra attention as it was his bday on the day, and finch got him a cake coz they know Pakistani team will even cut a cake when they lose... so finch wanted to be a good host...

Maybe not the point of this thread but Rizwan >>> Babar. Gives me the same invincible feeling that Miandad used to give when he was at the crease.

Expectations have to be realistic.

This Pakistan squad is not very strong.

The batting relies on 2 players and there isn't much strength in depth with the bat.

The bowling is exciting and can win games if a decent score is put on the board.

Semi-finals would be a good achievement.

You can guarantee the opposition have been spending months trying to figure out how to bowl to Babar and Rizwan and then how to survive the onslaught of Shaheen and Rauf.

Shadab and Asif have also produced some eyecatching performances on the world stage which other teams will be well aware of.

Thanks to these individuals Pakistan cricket has some izzat right now. Whatever happens it is good to know we are still producing exciting players.

Pakistan will be winning the world cup then attention will be on Baber and his Men.Rightly so. Right now as far as pakistan players are concerned they hardly care about full attention or no attention.

Nope. Pretty much everyone considers Pakistan to go to the semi-finals from this group, it’s the Pakistani fans who are downplaying their team this time in my opinion.

I do not like it one bit. The underdog tag is so much better than the favorite tag

Yep, no pressure Babar :D

Well tbh Pak’s group is relatively easy and expectation is that two of Pak, Ind, & SA will go through so making the semis is not really a big achievement.
