End of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik's international careers?

Lol theyve only been playing t20s for 14yrs

They are youngsters :misbah

Lol, right on cue both plus Ifti are in the team!

Fans need to stop blaming Hafeez and Malik.
They are professional cricketers and will play for as long as possible.

It is the job of selectors to understand that as batsman Malik and Hafeez offer close to nothing against good opposition. They must drop them after thorough analysis.

Didn't Malik Debut before Younis Khan, his batting coach now.....

Is Shoaib Malik the only active cricketer, whose debut date is before 01 January 2000?

Y2K. Ganguly took over captaincy. Changed the way India played its cricket. Dhoni made his debut, took over from him, won every trophy possible, retired. T20 was invented. IPL was created. iPhone was launched.

All this happened.

Shoaib Malik has remained a constant. Lol

I remember there was a thread about 10 year ago. Should Shoaib Malik play the 2011 World Cup? :))

Sarfaraz had the same script i.e. Malik/Hafeez are our match-winners and seniors. Azhar does the same in tests now. Is Babar doing the same, I'm not sure but looking at this thread it seems so. The mafia is so powerful that every new player feels indebted to it.

Knuckling under is always the easier thing than stand up. Everybody does not have that personality like Imran or Dhoni.

Only way Hafeez and Malik will be kicked out is if either Misbah or Babar grow a pair. Performance don't matter.

Nothing we say or do will change their minds. Can't even get angry about it anymore. Let them do what they want.

We know their track record in ICC tournaments, their away numbers, but they're more interested in keeping a happy dressing room and putting personal relationships above the team.

I really want to know what their plans are. Surely both of them have an idea on how long they want to play. I can definitely see them playing until that 2022 World T20.

Infact malik brought misbah back in the team during 2007 wt20 and was his captain :yk2

Oh yes, Malik was the captain in 2007....

Now Misbah coaches him 🤣🤣

:)))

Incredible really. It would have been understandable if he had some ATG level stats but he averages in the 30s in all formats.

There were special arrangements made to bring him to England for this series…

Can't believe were still facilitate these two seniors for there "experience"

Can't stand this team to be honest. Hafeez, Malik, Ifti chacha and even out of form Fakhar Zaman. Haider Ali seems to be only brought to carry drinks for the looks of it.

Malik and Hafeez?????

What are Malik and Hafeez doing playing international T20 cricket when young talented players are waiting in the wings?

Been saying for a few years Malik needs to go. He’s the Asad Shafiq of T20’s

Can’t have Baba Malik Hafeez in the same line up in 20-20 we all knw which 2 have to go..

:)))

Incredible really. It would have been understandable if he had some ATG level stats but he averages in the 30s in all formats.

I can only think of Tendulkar who played this long, where his coaches ( Gary Kirsten) etc had debuted after him

When you think of it, Shoaib Malik has been around for a long long time....

Hafeez in last 10 T20Is

Runs 396
Average 79.20
SR 143.47

Overs 10.0
Wickets 3
Economy 5.30

Eight of those games vs Aus, Eng, NZ

Mohammad Hafeez has become first player in the world to do a double of 2000 runs and 50 wickets in Men's T20Is.

There were 3 potential catches that landed within Malik's range. He could have dived and easily got at least 1 hand on all of them. Had he tried, who knows 1 out of 3 may have stuck and the match could have turned. Am I being too harsh on Malik? Were those actual chances that Malik could have gone for?

malik has a tailenderish avge in england in all formats

One fifty in a 20yr career uk and 45 games including tests and odis

Thank you for noticing this. You are absolutely right, he was taking a walk in the park for all of 'em. Malik looked lethargic with the bat too. It is mind boggling how these things are not noted in the dressing room.

I thought Hafeez was superb today, gave the innings some impetus and energy. In fact he was taking the innings forward when Babar was struggling.

Malik on the other hand couldn't hit the ball off the square.

Hafeez has played well recently but revert to type in the biggest matches. Why? Because he's an average player playing well. That can happen every once in awhile.

Shoaib Malik should just retire after this series. He is mediocre and can't play pace.

Said this time and time again Malik is very good against spin but very average against pace he csnt play the pull or the hook shot

Babar Azam in his post match press conference after the 3rd T20I vs England mentioned that a combo of senior and junior players are important.

Why are these two playing for KPK today? Surely these spots need to go to youngsters and not tried and tested failures like Hafeez and Malik?

Maybe they don't know how to word it but this thing about junior senior is just utter rubbish.

It should always be about the best players available and the balance of the team, not sticking in kids and expired players just for the sake of it.

Agree with that , except that a youngster with a mediocre record might still offer you some hope if he learns his lessons as they have time on their side - but over 35 year old batsmen averaging less then their age especially should be dropped at the first available opportunity.

Misbah’s test batting avg exceeded his age when he played in his 40s, I would have no probs if he carried on maintaining that average till he was 50.

It exceeded his age because luckily he didn't have to play many test matches in the places like Australia & South Africa.

Well you can only judge him against the opposition he played against and Misbah-ul-Haq looked a solid test batsman with technique to handle different kind of bowling, concentration to bat for long periods and mental toughness to deliver when his team was under pressure - only Younis Khan in full flow looked a superior test batsman in that team.

Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq in their 40s were head and shoulders better batsmen then other no hopers who end up somehow ranked as “senior” players.

Every other team has played atleast 2 youngesters baring kpk

I badly wanted them to play Haris but they didn't.

Hope he gets the chance in upcoming matches.

Highly unlikely!!!! Rizwan is fear for his spot and don't want any competition. It's PCB's mistake to put a young promising wicket keeper batsman under a wicket keeper captain.

We seen today exactly what you said dropped farhaan from the oppening spot to accommodate himself

Greenstorm and Shafi

So both of you were right........unfortunately

I think Malik has had a longer international career for pakistan(active years) in recent times than anybody else at 20 years and 355 days. I think Javed Miandad at 20 years and 272 days is next and then Afridi, wasim etc.

Just put on a 50 run pship in the National T20 Cup final....

WT20 India 2020
Hafeez : 41 year old
Malik: 40 year old
Ifti : probably 35+ real age
Wahab : 36+

Hes certainly proving lately why hes a must in the t20 format for pakistan

Hafeez is a must for t20 hes concentrating on hitting the ball hard instead of technique keep it up

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket teams head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has hinted at having seniors like c and Muhammad Hafeez in his plans for the T20 World Cup.

Talking to the media in an online session, Misbah said "Pakistan had been without key players like Imad Wasim, Muhammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik and Shadab Khan in the T20 series and when they return, the options would increase. The good thing is that now after the PSL, we will have a good pool of players, seniors and youngsters to choose from.

"I am not worried about the World Cup now as there is still time some eight months and we still have some 20 matches ahead of us so I think we will have a good pool of players to choose from going forward to the World Cup," he added.

Misbah said that he was happy to see debutant leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood doing well. "I think he bowled very well and he is a good addition to our pool of players. It is good to see we have a bunch of good spinners who are wicket-taking options for us specially in T20s and this will help in India,” he said.

The head coach believes that Pakistani batsmen need to improve their play against spin if they are to do well in this year's World T20 Cup in India.

"I think batsmen from both sides struggled in this series also because the spinners bowled well. But yes our batting against spin is something we need to look at and improve as even we can see the errors. "The fact is we are not playing spin well and if we are to do well in India where the World Cup is to be held we have to learn to play spin better and improve the way we play spinners," he asserted.

He said the Test and T20 series victories over South Africa were very encouraging and had boosted morale of the team. "I think some people wrote off this South African T20 squad but remember they had players in their side who are their bench strength and have played and performed in their domestic T20 cricket."

The former Pakistan skipper said that he had no insecurities about his job or position whether the board retains him or not is not in his control. "I don’t take stress because of these things. What is in our control is how we perform on the field and that we keep following our best procedures and training schedules and preparation."

South African head coach Mark Boucher felt his team had played good cricket throughout the series. "We got into strong positions in the Tests and also in the T20 matches. If I analyse every moment of the tour the disappointment is the big moments we got ourselves into and found stupid ways to get out of the game ourselves."

If I was Wasim Khan I would strip off Misbah from his duties for the national team immediately.

As I understand Shoiab Malik has been written off from future team plans. Why the heck is Misbah confusing the issue.

Let’s be realistic , Hafeez playing in next T20 World Cup and probably even the one after , and the next 50 overs WC is only not going to happen if Hafeez himself announced retirement or withdraws himself for any reason.

And Hafeez has actually performed in the last year or so for a change , so not even a question about it now - but I think we all know he would have been in the WC plans to bring ‘experience’ even if he had been failing and scored not a single 50 in the last year.

glad to see misbah mentioned malik. shows he is still in their plans for the world cup...as he should be.

How could he not be? Misbah, to his credit, has literally opened up Malik's spot and given plenty of chances to the fringe players to stake their claim. Not a single one has so far. If the choice is between Khushdil, Asif Ali, Talat and then Malik for one spot then it remains a no-brainer even at this stage.

I know people will be screaming for Azam Khan's inclusion but he is yet to make his debut and yet to stop resembling a sumo wrestler, so on that basis Malik remains a firm favourite for the World t20 at this time.

Thing is, I had been saying this for months. But posters here were so enamored by our young talents and Misbah/Wasim's selections that they couldn't see the obvious fact. That none of these guys are capable of delivering in high-pressure environments.

In a way I am glad they were given chances, so that it was proven without a shadow of a doubt who unequipped they all are to play international cricket.

I don't mind Hafeez, hiis T20 Record last year was astonishing.

Shoaib Malik however will really need to have a superb PSL to justify a spot. That said, he is a better option than Haider, Kushdil, Talat imo. They all have the potential but really need to learn from the recent South Africa series.
