What's new

End of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik's international careers?

I don't mind Hafeez, hiis T20 Record last year was astonishing.

Shoaib Malik however will really need to have a superb PSL to justify a spot. That said, he is a better option than Haider, Kushdil, Talat imo. They all have the potential but really need to learn from the recent South Africa series.

I will take Shoaib Malik in T20 every day over Misbah’s secret crush, Iftakhar.

I hope their test career is finished. Malik and Hafeez are like Iyer's and Suryakumar's. We have given plenty of matches to these average players.

The T20I series against South Africa was perfect for Malik and Hafeez.

None of the batsmen apart from Rizwan flourished.

The newer guys that they brought in flopped badly and that will only make Misbah think that both Malik and Hafeez are needed for the T20 World Cup.

At least they've been rested before they take their part in the WC. :genius

Need both of them for India wc t20
After that we should definitely think about dumping SM
Hafeez is fine for now...

What’s next for Hafeez and Malik?

So, I was unaware that there is another T20 World Cup in 11 months. I was fully expecting that Malik and Hafeez would pack their bags from T20I but with another World Cup 11 months away, this means they may continue to play till then?

What should Pakistan do in regards to their T20 team for the next 12 months? Keep the same squad and players or get a rid of players like Hafeez and Malik and give others a go. 11 months with limited T20I matches may not be enough to chop and change too much.

The selectors don’t have to do anything with Malik and Hafeez. Wait till the end of the PSL and pick your best performers. If Malik and Hafeez don’t perform then they won’t be picked for next years WT20. Simple.

Retirement for both. I don't see why they should continue.

Next World T20 is in Australia and they generally struggle there.

Retirement party. Projectors should be setup at the party so that all of their memorable performances for the last 20+ years are shown on the walls of the venue.

Retirement hopefully. The next T20WC is in Australia where both men haven't offered anything in the past and won't in the future.

I think, since nothing has worked to oust them, you want to maybe try reverse psychology and start a few campaigns to support them

1. Start 20-30 threads here of the positives / powers of hafeez / shoaib
2. You know those I ❤️ NY Tshirts … print loads of i love hafeez & i love malik tshirts and distribute them.
3. Give them a few awards etc, invite them for political discussions, geopolitical issues , conferences, youth academies etc.

And so on …

Something like the Gandhigiri done in munnabhai movie.

I think they should retire with grace.

They have served the country well enough.

It is time to give way for others.

Pakistan should try new players in home series against WI,Australia and England. It should select the best performers from these series plus PSL.

I just cannot see both of them retiring till next year, considering they both performed pretty decent in this WC and there seems to be this “strong brotherhood” within this squad. I don’t expect the squad to change tbh and if you were to ask me who I’d replace them with, i couldn’t tell you because all your Khushdils, chacha ifti, Haider Alis haven’t really proved themselves to take their spots.

Malik got extremely lucky when he got to play Santner in the 18th over. He was hopeless against Naveen ul Haq.

At the end he cashed on Scotland minnows

This mentality is exactly why they are still in the team. The likes of Ifti and Haider Ali need to be given chances ahead of these two now in world events .

Malik scored his 1st 50 in ICC tournaments since 2012 and he has played 6 since then against the mighty Scotland , and Hafeez made some decent contributions against Namibia and Scotland whilst failing in the two pressure matches against New Zealand and Afg ( which was expected ) as that’s what he always done .

On that basis they deserve another World Cup ? Please spare me the horror .

I don't think you should just basis it off psl becouse the conditions are different from pak/eae and Australia.

PAK vs WI: Hafeez, Malik to skip home T20 series against West Indies

Veteran Pakistan batsmen Muhammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik will skip next month's T20 home series against the West Indies, a Cricket Board (PCB) source said.

Hafeez and Malik have both informed the Pakistan team captain Babar Azam and head coach Saqlain Mushtaq that they will not be available for the series due to personal commitments.

Both the players also skipped the recent T20 series in Bangladesh after the World Cup, which Pakistan won comfortably by a 3-0 margin.

"Malik has said that he wants to focus on playing in T20 leagues and the Pakistani selectors should only consider him for selection for select and important series," a reliable PCB source said.

He said Hafeez, on the other hand, has said he is skipping the West Indies series as he is busy with the Lankan Premier League and the selectors should give a chance to some young players.

Hafeez also skipped the series in Bangladesh.

"Basically it has been decided to now start giving more exposure to players like Haider Ali, Sohaib Maqsood, Khushdil Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed, Danish Aziz, Azam khan to prepare them for the future instead of waiting around for Hafeez and Malik," the source added.
