I think this performance will give a lot of confidence to the team and eventually shut the door for Hafeez.
Lets hope they dont select him for UAE
If he can bowl he would fit in nicely at number 7 as an all rounder
I think he should really come down and bat at #6. I feel his game is best suited for that position and with his bowling back he can fill the all rounder role. He was never a good enough batsman to open tbf but he can still be pretty useful as an all rounder.
why not?
There are players who can't even score on UAE and he can, so why not benefit from that.

Very true, but with 2 preconditions:If he can bowl he would fit in nicely at number 7 as an all rounder
Because there is a guy named Sami Aslam who has opened with great maturity and there guys who are waiting to debut in the middle order. Hafeez is useless for next two tours. We have to invest either in a All-rounder or Middle irder batsman.
What Hafeez offers
A higher scoring rate in UAE enabling us to score quick runs in order to force a win
Good cross bat game in terms of cutting and pulling
What Hafeez does not offer
A sitting duck when the ball swings or there is a thought that the ball will swing
I think he still has a place for until the Australian tour. He is the only one keen to cut and pull and probably needs to be persevered with. Don't take him to England and South Africa but could be good value for money in WI, Australia and New Zealand.
Sami comes in Shan Masoods place, who do we bring in as second opener? Obviously, hafeez. Azhar Ali can't be asked to open everytime.
Besides, you need reasons to drop someone, you cant drop someone because of one bad tour.
All rounders don't exist in Pakistan currently. We can't play a low skilled player for the sake of being an allrounder. Bilawal Bhatti was tried and he showed that its a stupid risk.
Time to invest in someone younger. Whats the point of persisting with a 35 year old with technical issues on non UAE surfaces.
Hafeez has a catastrophic record in Australia.
On the 2009-10 Pakistan A tour, here are some records for you to compare in the 2 A Tests.
Mohammad Hafeez: 40 runs @ 10.00
Azhar Ali: 160 runs @ 40.00
Umar Akmal: 283 runs @ 94.33
Sarfraz Ahmed: 180 runs @ 45.00
Hafeez loves to cut and pull. But he's rubbish at it.
Dropping Iftikhar would be a stupid idiot thing to do. He failed sure. But he might come good in the future as opposed to fair weather FTSB(Flat track somewhat bully) Hafeez living up to his derisive nickname every darn time.
Even Lokesh Rahul who debuted for India dropped a few catches and failed miserably. But he got a ton in his 2nd test. Now Iftikhar might not even be 5% the player Rahul is. But people should at least give him more than 1 test to prove himself.

Azhar has a batting average of 32 as an opener. He is not going to fare any better than Hafeez. Dropping him to bring in Iftikhar was a failed experiment.
Sami is very new and jury is still out on him as to how he will perform under different conditions.
Whats Azhar's sample size as an opener? He made 49 and 30*(out of 42) in his last test.Azhar has a batting average of 32 as an opener. He is not going to fare any better than Hafeez. Dropping him to bring in Iftikhar was a failed experiment.

Hafeez of that time had a poor record anywhere and everywhere. A part of me thinks that he'll probably never play test cricket again but Sami Aslam to me doesn't look like a player who can dominate bowlers.
I just hope Babar Azam and Haris Sohail can in the test team and that Haris has worked on his short ball issue.
He'll never be dropped or even moved down the order. He has more lives than a cat.
Only in Pakistan can someone be badly exposed time and again for a decade and not just be retained but be given a central position.
This fascination with bits and pieces cricketers has destroyed our cricket.
At the beginning of the 90's if someone had seen Afridi, Malik and Hafeez play and then be told that they would become not only some of the most capped players but future captains with big fan bases they would have thought you'd on the wacky backy.
You reap what you sow and our results are proof of that.

I'm guessing you missed this thread: http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/s...n-outside-Asia-in-the-history-of-Test-Cricket!
A choker and a serial dropper to go with it.![]()
Most of us here have seen Iftikhar play and there's no chance of that happening.
You can trust me.I don't trust most of the PPers at all. Most of you are very fickle and change opinions like babies change diapers. Ditching him after a test BECAUSE YOU THINK he won't do well is dumb on so many levels. If you thought he wouldn't be good, why give him a chance eh? Now that you have, let him play. Then jump on the bandwagon if he does well somehwo.
Its a shame for Hafeez that this tour did not give him confidence....
Don't really mind him on flat pitches or in the UAE since we can increase our chances of winning more Test series but he's not that good abroad.
Problem is that if he plays in the UAE and scores he'll play in NZ and AUS as well.
He will be back.
And most importantly is that we won a series on those flat pitches. It's all about maximisation and minimisation when it comes to win and loss ratio.
No. Hafeez will 99% not score in NZ/Aus. Better to give someone else warm-up games in Test series against WI before taking them on the tours.
Sometimes Aus/NZ may have flat pitches, they're not always green mambas.
No Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam should be opening for us till Australia tour atleast and Babar should be included, this should be the team for Australia tour:
1. Azhar Ali
2. Sami Aslam
3. Asad Shafiq
4. Younis Khan
5. Misbah
6. Asad Shafiq
7. Sarfaraz
8. Yasir Shah
9. Sohail Khan
10. Amir
11. Wahab Riaz
Reserves
12. Rahat Ali
13. Nawaz
14. Umar Amin
15. Imran Khan
I think M Hafeez should be playing only ODIs and T20s. I think Baber Azam should be making into test squad.
