End of Mohammad Hafeez's Test career?

Probably unlucky there, he's a beast on flat pitches in Tests but there's no way you can play him in places such as Eng, Aus and SA as he's vulnerable to swing.

Thanks Mohammad Hafeez for the 197 vs NZ and the 151 vs England. Thanks for the 11 ODI hundreds.

But this surely has to be the end of the line.
 
End of the line in Test Cricket and rightly so.. was never a test opener.

I wont count him out yet in ODIs especially if he can start bowling again. If he starts bowling, he will be in a chance if one of Malik, Imad, Azhar (the batsman) slip up.

Nevertheless he has made valuable contributions in the shorter format.
 
He could come back if he bowls. But got out against the Windies today! When even Iftikhar made a fifty..

Inzamam has kept the 3rd opener Spot vacant for 2nd & 3rd test.


2-3 players will be added to the Test Squad for 2nd & 3rd test. 1 will be Younis while others can be Hafeez, Shehzad, Shan, Iftikhar or Fawad.



Now it all boils down to how quickly Pakistan A dismiss West Indies today and than how many runs Hafeez scores in 2nd innings.



Inzamam praised Hafeez highly in Press Conference especially wrt his Test Performances in UAE of last 5 years as a Batsman and his Odi performances of 2015-2016.



Hafeez averages 50 plus in UAE as an opener. 75+ in second innings and he will be back.



Hafeez has had worst test tours of England & South Africa. Also like Malik he is a minnow basher but Hafeez made comeback to pakistan team in 2010 when he scored 180 in a Fc match vs Australia A in Australia. He is good on Cut, Pull & Hook which you need on Australian Surfaces so if he can score 75+ in 2nd innings than he will be back in test squad as a 3rd opener for UAE aswell as tours of NZ & AUS.


Even with no Hafeez I would want Jaahid Ali or Naeemuddin (if he again scores highly in current Fc season) rather than Salman, Shan or Shehzad as 3rd opener.
 
Hafeez is toast. It's pretty clear. This team and this coaching staff doesn't do 'beast in Uae' nonsense
 
One hopes. The England tour was his final test. He simply had to perform to retain his position, which he did not.

Sami Aslam took his chance with both hands and Azhar is a better player, so there is no room for Hafeez.

* Correction it was 10 years ago :) in Darwin Australia against Johnson, Tait & Watson of 2006. Misbah also played that match.
 
I'm glad Hafeez is not part of the squad . .

If I were Hafeez right now . . I'd spend the next one month, trying to fix my bowling and getting it cleared . . cuz thats the only way I would come back into the squad for NZ and AUS . . otherwise, no chance!

He's not going to be part of any of those squads even if he can bowl with both hands. End of the line.
 
Hopefully his career is over. No he can't replace Latif if he fails in T20Is. Babar Azam can open in 20 over matches.

The only way I can see him playing, is if he gets his action re-tested and then he plays as a big hitting all-rounder in LOIs. That is the only spot for him in shorter format games. He is too old for Tests now unfortunately.

That makes me wonder if Azhar Ali has stood up against opening.

Hafeez is choking under pressure.he should just retire from test and t20s and just focus on odis which can

prolong his international career otherwise it is over for hafeez

From recent developments, I guess Azhar Ali doesn't want to open in Tests. Hafeez may still have an outside chance.

It was between Hafeez, Shehzad & Jaahid.


Had Jaahid played today vs Zim A which he richly deserved and if he scored a Ton than I am sure he would have joined the Test Squad for 2nd & 3rd Test.
Since he scored runs in both Fc and List A format in England so this gives a hint tha he has solid technique and temperament. Unfortunately now Inzamam will pick Shehzad or Shan as 3rd opener for 2nd and 3rd test.


And Yes Hafeez now needs 3 Fc hundreds in current season plus He neefs to clear bowling action test aswell. Than he can make comeback to Test Squad. Otherwise its over. He needed to outscore Shehzad & Shan vs WI and than he would have made test squad for 2nd and 3rd test but he failed to do it, hence he won't be picked. Hafeez is Poor outside Asia and against top pace attacks yet he is better than Shehzad & Shan.
 
Not sure to be honest. He is officially 36, so he has about 5 years to try once more.

MoHa is rated highest by many PAK experts & former players. I have heard former greats praising his timing, placements, intelligence. If he starts bowling, I won't be surprised if he is called as the senior pro after Misbah, YK retires - if Azhar hangs on to ODI Captaincy, MoHa might come back even as Test captain.

I'll be really surprised if that one failure series in U.K. ends MoHa's career for PAK. He has support from every corner - only Arthur is spoiling the toast. He won't be there for ever, & MoHa is only 36.
