England (113/5 in 18.1 overs) register a scratchy 5-wicket win against Afghanistan (112)

rashid is gonna maybe bowl the next over would be do or die than

nabi should had bowled this over. the pressure is off now and england gonna win, no chance for afg

bring rashid khan now and just hope for some miracle where he maybe gets a 2 wickets....

take the risk, they dont have any chance now

rashid takes a wicket, needs another one to create some pressure here, can he do it

2 boundaries is all England need, however they can just take singles

4 balls of rashid left. Plz plz create a miracle rashidaaa.

they survive Rashid Khan. Good game for Afg, they bowled really well, if only they had some score on board.

No worries, should learn from this and come back hard in next game..

Well played Afghans

Atleast Australia imploded chasing 200 against a more regular side. This is a mere 112

Australia is going to do well in upcoming games. New Zealand loss was important to bring some balance to this group

Stronger bowling unit >> Stronger batting unit. You can always come back after a mistake. Batsman can't.

Afghanistan has to think how will they bat . If batting first they need to aim at 160

England bat so deep that they can play freely. But as seen in the Pk series twice, ultra aggression can result in an implosion. The Afghans may turn over one of the big 4 in their group.

i feel happy for the afghan crowd that they have a sport for whcih they can go to grounds and cheer for.

lovely story this afghan team has

The story is tainted by how their fans behave in the stands from time to time. The behavior they have on the field against Pakistan. The racist slurs and small mentality.

Afghanistan bowling and attitude has been brilliant any other team would just give up after scoring 113

there are many other threads to discuss about that.

nabi should bowl next, fareed is gonna bottle it

wonder if icc is gonna rate this pitch as poor.

had it been a spinning track, icc would had been all over it. but when its pacy thans its alright i guess

come on umpiree...... gave that a wide :))

if they give the MOTM to curran, that is gonna be a travesty. It was Mark Wood that created problems and should get he motm.

Congrats England! This match will give England confidence as playing spin is not their biggest strength.

IPL hero outperforming the hero of other leagues. What a performance from Sam Curran, no wonder IPL is the best thing BCCI has come up with :kp :inti

Well played Afghanistan. Would have been great if they made 135-140. But they pushed Poms and their NRR didn’t get a big hammering.

they could had gone for 140-150 had their lower order not collapse.. it totally collapsed.

I wonder why Afghanistan went off the boil with 20 runs to go. Could have brought field closer etc. One more wicket and things could have become interesting. Intensity is very important. Can’t be off based on opponent.

Rana and Co would be bashing Pakistan left right and center had we chased like this.

England (113/5 in 18.1 overs) register a scratchy 5 wicket win against Afghanistan (112 All Out)

Seems as if it was a difficult wicket to bat on. If only Afghanistan had batted more sensibly and had got somewhere close to 140....

they needed to bowl the qouta off fareed.

Mujeeb was done, and rashid was being saved for one last trick. One over had to be squeezed in by the pacer, which is why Fareed was bought in but was attacked.

Sam Curran delivered a memorable bowling performance in the Super 12 encounter of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup against Afghanistan in Perth on Saturday as England bowled out Mohammed Nabi's men for a meagre total of 112. England chased it down later with five wickets and 11 deliveries to spare.

The England bowlers kept the Afghanistan batters under pressure right from the beginning of the match. They restricted the Afghans to less than six runs per over in the powerplay but there was still some hope for Mohammad Nabi's men as they had wickets in hand. That didn't matter in the end, though, as Curran bowled a superb spell to bundle them out for 112.

He claimed the wicket of a well-set Ibrahim Zadran in the middle-overs and then came back at the death to pick up four wickets and complete his five-for. The left-arm pacer registered figures of 3.4-0-10-5 in the end.

A brief scare for England but all ends well

England got off to a steady start with Alex Hales and Jos Buttler putting on an opening stand of 35 runs. But they suffered a brief scare in the middle as they went on to lose four wickets in the space of just 46 runs. Afghanistan could also sense that they were back in the game.

But Liam Livingstone stepped up and scored an unbeaten 29 from 21 deliveries to guide England home.

What's Next?

This win also gave England a significant boost in their NRR, which stands at +0.620 right now. Afghanistan fought well with the ball but this loss has left them with a NRR of -0.620 and they will need to work really hard to improve it.

Afghanistan will struggle against pace bowling on these bouncy pitches. The grounds are big so it is not easy to hit sixes. On small grounds Afghans hit many sixes. They were 30-40 runs short.A score of 150 would have made things interesting.England were scratchy but there was no scoreboard pressure on them.

Imagine if it was Pakistan instead of England. Fans would have expected them to chase this target in 12 overs without even losing a wicket. :91: :inti

Apart from catches match is full of 'lowlights'

Maybe not as convincing a margin of victory as we wanted, but it’ll do… a win is a win, and we don’t want performance levels in a tournament to peak too early.
