England [162/7] fight back to defeat Australia [160/6] by 2 runs in the first T20I

I would have backed Australia to win the World T20 had it been played next month. It will be interesting to see how they one up in 2022.

India are definitely the favourites for next year World T20 as they have home advantage.

Rashid is England's best hope of getting back into the game. Mirgan should bring him on asap.

Australia should win the trophy at home.

Aussies are also #1 in T20 ranking currently.

Just detest English commentary when Australia are batting. Bunch of jealousy crybabies.

9/10 times, I don't think any of our players would have been able to take the catch Finch took, that was sheer determination.

Things like that helped Aus bring it back in, the catching, ground fielding and planning was excellent.

Yep moments like these are game changing.

It inspires the whole team to bring their A game out!

The gap between ourselves and Australia, if it even needed reminding, has been re-emphasised tonight.

A world apart in terms of bowling changes, fielding and tactical plans despite T20 supposedly being Pakistan's stronger suit.

Pakistan? They're shredding a full-strength English team to pieces. Forget others.

I was told by posters that England would beat Australia 9/10 times. Guess this is the one time when Aus will beat them :))

The brought back Butler, Wood, and Archer for the T20Is against Ozzies. Why did they drop them against Pakistan?

What a massacre, honestly LOIs have become dependent on batsmen like Butler, Sharma, Warner..

Smith plays the same role as Babar yet he is still capable of accelerating, sky were showing his stats in T20s and he has a strike rate of over 200 after a certain amount of balls. The excuses our fans make for Babar not being able to accelerate are pathetic. I'm not asking Babar to be ABD but his lack of acceleration is a real problem on flat pitches.

Lol a change of stance didn’t change the fortune of Maxwell.

I have never seen him perform...

How many matches aussies win when they lose top three early?

They have pathetic moddle order

I wouldn't want to be within 20 miles of Justin Langer if Australia throw this away...

Aussies play so much T20 , BBL IPL , and still no good middle order??

Whats with teams collapsing nowadays

I think some new way of playing T20s is needed where top 3 play in middle order and middle order play top3.. and exchanging the same to make everyone have better ability

Lord. Did Australia pull a Pakistan in this match. 9 off 4 is still doable.

The close finishes of T20s is what makes T20s entertaining..

WD to English bowlers

Geez England since the 2019 Final have learned how to fight till the very end.

Another crazy comeback.

Whats the point of scoring all those runs in BBL , Stoinis cost this game.

Morgan has become an excellent LOI captain, EnG is such an interesting team now

Wood, Archer and Jordan are the heroes who pulled it off

How on earth aussies manage to lose this. To be fair pitch was sticking and as ball got old was difficult to hit but thats rank poor batting from aussies middle order.

This will really hurt aussies

Lowest total defended by ENG at home in T20Is
153 v India, Lord's 2009
162 v Australia, Southampton 2020*
179 v Australia, Southampton 2005
180 v India, Birmingham 2014

Australia needed 65 runs off 55 balls with 10 wickets in hand. England win by two runs!

:))):))):))):))):)))

Has Stoinis ever played a good innings for Australia? Never been impressed with him. Never seen him play good for Australia.(could be wrong)

With such a btittle middle ordet smith has to put anchor or they will keep losing.

For england willy has to come in they cant have both wood and archer

Wonderful comeback from England. The Australian players would be scratching their heads in utter disbelief.

Some fans perhaps would still criticise Malan for that innings?

Credit to England's bowlers but what on earth were the Aussies doing.

The rot seemed to start with a horrible shot from Maxwell.

Run a ball with 9 wickets in hand and that too lessthan 40 runs needed and somehow lost the match..choke of the decade for sure...

Can't remember the last winning knock from Maxwell

That why we left him :)

As per Kohli he hasn’t missed the game as much as he thought.. lol Kaptaan sahib almost looks too relaxed to win the IPL.. for all you know Stonis brings his BBL form for Punjab

He won't score many on those slow and low turning tracks of UAE

England captain EOIN MORGAN

"I thought the bowlers really came good in the last eight overs. We managed to get the ball tailing a bit, Adil [Rashid] taking those two important wickets to get into that middle order and get it exposed a little bit. It's always difficult coming in under lights, pressure on on a slower wicket.

"Given the side that we play against, moving forward we will go with whichever side we think is best to win that game or that series. Today we went in with Mark Wood and a batter less, it proved very valuable in the second innings."

Australia skipper AARON FINCH...

"We knew that England were going to keep coming hard and they executed really well. We just struggled to find the boundary a bit in that 12-18 over mark. That is something to keep working on and that is not the first time it's happen so as long as the boys keep learning and improving from it, lesson learned.

"[Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell] were both playing to a game plan so I think if you can separate the execution and the game plan and look a bit deeper into it. No, T20 games are about making sure you take your options and matching that up with the right game plan so plenty to work on. I'd probably be more critical of myself and Davey [Warner], who got us off to good start and neither of us pushed on to make a match-winning contribution."

Some cringeworthy posts during the match...

England are absolutely head and shoulders above the Aussies in both T20’s and ODI’s and even if they lost this game that wouldn’t game this...

Wait until Roy. Stokes and Woakes are
back
