WI need someone to step up and get a big score . If they can get small partnerships also going , like 30s and 40s , they can build some lead , to give there bowlers something to bowl at.

If Windies get a lead of 220+ then I think we are in big trouble. We need to make serious inroads into their innings by lunch otherwise the match will slip away.

Think the Windies have had their peak in Headingley.

I expect an England victory.
 
I really hope England win here, it will put a damper on our victory because then the world will think England are overrated if they lose to the likes of WI. No disrespect to WI.. Maybe some disrespect, but they really do have a p good core of cricketers going forward.

WI really need Hope, Blackwood, Dowrich and Holder to get them to a lead of about 225 otherwise it'll be an easy chase for England.

Blackwood needs to settle down, he needs to realise that they have a lead of just 27 not 250 ! The guy reminds me of boom boom, bats the same way regardless of the situation

Need at least 200 more runs to make a match out of this, would be wonderful to see the mediocre england team thrashed by the windies

And yeah it is a good batting surface but they're still getting the ball to do a bit and it's not as humid compared to Friday, this is why we have a lack of universal consensus on the influence of overcast conditions but the basic aerodynamic principles should keep our minds at peace to an extent

Lead is now 36 and ENG require 5 wickets, WI's are in big big trouble; will struggle to get to 100 the way ENG are bowling at the moment

There really were no international contracts - it was like football.

You earned most of your wages from whichever club paid you (e.g. Courtney Walsh was paid by Gloucestershire and Jamaica), and earned a match fee for home internationals and a tour fee for away series.

Goodness no, test cricket paid a lot more than a County salary which was atrocious. The County pros would look forward to their benefit year - where the player would employ a fundraising agent, which might give them enough to pay off the mortgage if they were lucky. But they didn't get paid in the winter. Andy Caddick painted the fences at Somerset when he wasn't on tour for England.

Shai Hope is pure class. One of the brightest 23 year old's you'd ever see. Hoping hope can take WI to 200. Game will seriously be on then.

People would have said the same about 23 year old Haris Sohail when in 2011/12 he was scoring on the most difficult of pitches against good attacks in Pakistan domestic but alas PCB, captain, coach, management and awaam were happy with mediocrity who hardly have any achievement outside their comfort zones. As good a player as Shai Hope against Fast bowling badly wasted by us but WI are smart. Kudos to them for persisting with talent and ability.
 
Really enjoy watching Hope bat. I have extra admiration for players who have special ability + score in difficult conditions & situations like Hope, Pujara, Smith, Williamson
 
WI need another hundred at least.

Pujara? Please go and check his away record. All he's ever done is score in India or Sri Lanka. Nothing more than an overrated HTB. Smithy and Williamson are true legends.
 
The sane thing to do for Holder now would be to go berserk and try to hit as many big shots as he can. He can't trust Roach and Shannon to stick there. Anderson is on peak form. Better to get 20-30 quick, risky runs than to get 10.

Pujara has played few of the most crucial innings in recent times which helped his team to win matches and series.
Watch his match and series winning 145* on a seaming track when all others failed. Or his 92 and 200 against a firing Pattinson which played a key role in winning the match and recent series against AUS. The best innings of the series.

Its not always necessary that conditions and bowling at home or in Asia are easy. For last 6-7 years I personally feel batting in Australia is easy (especially in few series) and teams can pile up big runs.
 
Anderson is bowling like a strapping young lad in the prime of his life. Can't believe he is 35.

Best innings of the series? You've got to be kidding me.. Each and every innings Smithy played was superior to anything Pujara did. I'm not an India hater but lets be honest here, he doesn't have the gravity to be even mentioned next to someone like Smith.

A total of 1 century outside Asia in 51 matches? Even Asad Shafiq has done better than that.
 
West Indies leading by 101 runs now. Only need to get 60 more runs to pose a challenge to the English. Come on Holder!

Pujara innings helped India to win the series while Smiths' didn't. His innings were more significant. Yes that matters.

Would've been brilliant if Windies won this...Would be a matter of a once again competetive Windies rather than a mediocre England.

Now Anderson needs to get that average around 26. Currently he's a Mitchell Johnson level bowler.
 
People who just see the scorecard will say "West Indies have reverted back to mediocrity" - but conditions have been very challenging for batsmen and they've fought hard.

They couldn't recover from that weak 1st innings position.

Darren Bravo to replace Kyle Hope and Shimron Hetmyer to replace Kieran Powell for me going forward.

Good progress made from Windies. They'd have learned a lot from this tour. Time to get rid of the deadwood. Bishoo, Kyle, etc. need to be replaced. They need to bring in another young seamer.

Bowled Jimmy, batted England top order for once.

I expected 3-0 or 2-0 to the Ingerlund, but WI turned up. Their quick bowling looks decent and Hope looks like another Richardson or Hooper.

Agree with you there mate. England winning by 9 wickets may give the impression it was one sided but the reality is that is was very even game for majority of the match
 
A bit of anti climax - the game ended lot easier for Poms than it actually was. Eventually, it proved what I wrote on Day 1 - WI didn't take notice of the weather forecast & ended up batting twice under cloud, while ENG batting once under Sun. I think, 35 years back, most of 16 tour members were seasoned County pro, hence they knew what it's like batting in gloom in UK; I doubt how many of this bunch has played even in League cricket.

Still, WI were far better than our Heroics at Etihad today :(
