West Indies have a slim chance of still automatically qualifying for the World Cup 2019. Assuming there are no ties or abandoned matches, they will need a 5-0 victory. Ben Stokes returns to the side and could come up against Marlon Samuels.

Delay due to a wet outfield but the sun's out and play should begin shortly without overs reduction.

Wow this is a joke. Sun is out but there are patches of the outfield still not dried properly.

Organise ODIs in mid September in the UK at your peril.

this has been ONE LOOOOOOOONG English cricket season

They seem to be playing forever honestly

champions trophy as swell as t20 leagues have led to a longer season. Unfortunately the cash comes before common sense nowadays, i remember a not too dissimilar situation at the start of the English summer, back in early may

Don't quote me on this but I think the English season goes from May-September.

Yea I know

But I think games aren't this thick and fast

I basically mean there's been more games this year

Season usually ends in the first week or 2 of September compared to the end of September this year. County cricket has generally gone on until the end of September in recent times though.

Thought they always played until the end of September?

International season normally finishes in early September. Last year England vs Pakistan T20 was the last home game of the summer for England and that was September 7. This series against West Indies finishes late September

West Indies win the toss & bat first:

West Indies: 1) Chris Gayle 2) Evin Lewis 3) Shai Hope (wk) 4) Marlon Samuels 5) Jason Mohammed 6) Rovman Powell 7) Jason Holder (c) 8) Ashley Nurse 9) Devendra Bishoo 10) Jerome Taylor 11) Kesrick Williams

England: 1) Alex Hales 2) Jonny Bairstow 3) Joe Root 4) Eoin Morgan (c) 5) Ben Stokes 6) Jos Buttler (wk) 7) Moeen Ali 8) Chris Woakes 9) Adil Rashid 10) Liam Plunkett 11) David Willey

Thanks guys.

Yet another ODI failure for Lewis.

It's a puzzle, given how good he looks in the t20s. Maybe that's how he should treat odis...

Yeah, it really does leave one thinking.

That ball he got out on was meant to be put away, felt like he was playing too tentatively.

Seems like Gayle might have pulled his hamstring according to commentators.

what a catch by Joe Root. Makes up for the dropped catch earlier

Gayle trying to get a move on. Looks frustrated.

After playing T-20's across all over the globe he really forgot's playing an odi

He literally has only one plan....just slog everything come in his way though someday it may work

Windies are such an horrible team.

They will either go 'Bang Bang' or 'Tuk Tuk' there is no middle ground, no strike rotation.
No wonder why they are at the bottom of the table.

That's how they won the T20 World Cup - they had the highest dot % but they knew they could make up for it in boundaries - they had the highest boundary % out of any team.

In T20 you can get away with Dot or Boundary strategy. But in ODIs you need your batsmen to rotate strikes and keep the scoreboard moving with minimum risk.

You can't just blindly slog for 50 overs.

Marlon not putting away full tosses.

And it begins - Samuels vs Stokes. No words exchanged...yet.

If you're watching game you'll see Samuels is trying to hit every delievery of Rashid for 4 and in the process 'Dot balls'( not to mention the risk of getting out is also high) Brainless batting if you ask me. He could simply nudge the ball around and keep the scoreboard moving.

Samuels been like this for 18 years. However today he's not even putting away full tosses.

Windies need to get a move on - this is only a 42 over match. Jason Mohammad should be in next with license to score quick.

17 off the last five overs.

Finally England have learnt you need to take pace off the ball against Windies batsmen. These slower balls have been effective in drying up the runs.

Pakistan have a good record against Windies in T20s because we don't feed their strengths and attack with spin which their big hitters aren't great at playing. Gayle and Lewis love pace on the ball.

No wonder why they are at the bottom of the table.

Their is a reason why they are still waiting for a place in world cups and failed to qualify for recent CT

What a shot from Powell. Beautiful checked drive straight down the ground for six.

Boring, who watches this ODI nonsense Big Mac.
Markhor Just let me know all the bits where Adil Rashid gets a big spank, really enjoy those.

Specialist spinner is being out-bowled by the part timer :yk :moali

I think Rashid is specifically in the team because the public enjoy the spectacle of his pies:tahir2:hafeez2

West Indies have been batting as if on a Caribbean pitch. Wasted a good start.

Stokes lucky not to be taking out of the attack. Bowled two above waist full tosses, given warning after the first one but nothing after the second instance.
According to Umpire Bumble, it's because the second one was not at the batsman's body therefore not dangerous....

Wonderful to see two test bowlers(one mediocre) opening in ODIs. What the hell happened to Alzarri and Gabriel? Why isn't Ronsford in the squad?

Thought some huge inngs from hales is coming.....he was time to perfection before getting out

Why did WI opted to bat first in a shortened game with weather getting better and game going into night (from dew factor)?

England batsmen are showing that you dont need to hit boundary every ball to keep the scoreboard moving, singles does the job too.

Outfield was still pretty damp at the start of the WIs innings.

That should make batting tougher as well for the slowness of out field. I don't think they bothered to think under revised condition - sticked to initial thoughts of win toss, bat first in a D/N match. They did a blunder at Lord's as well in 3rd Test.

LO cricket is becoming absolute rubbish these days - 90% matches are decided within 66% duration, may be even earlier.

Icing on the cake for eng

Their is country mile diff bw both these teams........5-0 Coming

Maiden hundred for Bairstow and easy win for England.

West Indies played a nothing bowling attack today. Williams has been rubbish ever since he was trolled by Walton at the CPL.

Horrible.

So glad for Bairstow. He is the answer to England's #5 batting problem but they continue to handicap him at #7, with the gloves, ruining something special like they did with Alec Stewart.
