What's new

England [305/8] defeat New Zealand [186] by 119 runs to reach Semi-finals of World Cup 2019

I believe the new ball will be easier to get away, when the ball gets a bit older might stick, however NZ will know what they’re chasing, this is a wicket where a set batsman can only get himself out. if New Zealand can get to a decent start and can rotate strike should be in the bag. Who agrees?

I don't have much faith in Guptill and Munro. They've been awful in this WC. If at least one of them gets going, might get interesting.

All those people saying NZ will try and lose this deliberately - 300 is never out of reach in the modern game, and is considered par in recent times. The only way NZ can be out of the WC is if they implode and collapse to less than 80 all out, and even then it would require a massive effort from PAK to beat BD handsomely. Therefore, i dont see NZ playing for their NRR in this game as they are almost guaranteed semifinalists now that they have restricted ENG to 300. Thus, they should definitely be going for the win.

It'll be difficult for England to bowl as well as the Kiwis in the back end. Their bowlers are too quick.

England have batsman in their lineup

Kiwis have a batsman.

Feels like both teams played with Pakistan and the viewers today instead of each other.

I switched off the TV after the Santner over. Knew Blackcaps will allow England to cross 200 without too many wickets. England will never score 350, they'll score near 290s and NZ will fall short. England will win and Blackcaps will keep a healthy NRR.

Chairman Mani and the selection committee has been playing with the Pakistani fans since the Asia Cup, they'll now understand what it feels like.

Nicholls playing instead of Munro.

Who would NZ like to face in the semis:

India or Australia?

If NZ lose this, AUs win against SA means India and Eng will play SF2. If Aus lose and Ind wins against SL, it will be Ind vs NZ in the first SF.

Realistically the way England were going they are 80 runs short to what they could've gotten.

They scored just 110 in the last 20 over :vk2

There were reports of Mark wood also having issues. Archer has a tight side or something. If all 3 of their pacers are unfit and bowling rubbish, New Zeal...... I mean Pakistan may have a chance to qualify :inti

So Pak have a SF chance.

I would take that score 9/10 considering the circumstances at the toss.

worried ... as pitch is slowing down first 20 overs may be easy and after that it may get difficult...

Lets see how it plays out.. I expect Grandhomme brother to hit the winning run:smith

That's good for NZ (and perhaps Pakistan :P)

Guptill is key for me. He was a monster player a while back but he seems completely out of sorts lately. If he finds his range, England are in for a scrap. Otherwise England will win by around 60-70 runs I feel.

You’re forgetting that NZ basically have a batsman and half.

Kane needs to score big for them to get near 300 but his problem is he bats at Ahmed Shehzads strike rate. (Ok that’s exaggeration but he’s still pretty slow by modern standards. Shehzads slow by 90s standards)

Guptill and Taylor actually. Kane does not have that extra gear. He should anchor the chase. :inti

He's a big choker

That game, This game, WT20 Final and no wonder how many more like these in series deciding games

He has single-handedly dragged England in this World Cup at times. He bailed them out against South Africa, waged lone wars against Australia and Sri Lanka and put the game beyond India's reach. If anything, he has raised his stock in this World Cup and dispelled the myth that he is a bottler. Everyone is allowed a bad game, and he is yet to bowl.

Well that could work the other way.
England obviously had their sights on 330+ and could be accused of going too hard on a slowing wicket.

The Kiwis could play it differently and coast to this total.

Having said that the most likely event is Kiwis loosing a few quick wickets and then limping to 230-240.

Mind you, after the first 20-25 overs of England's innings I think everyone here and every Pakistani in Pakistan and around the world would have banked 305...

Considering the slowness of the pitch in the last 15 overs, England have an excellent total on board. This is why Roy is so crucial for them - he sets the tone at the start of the innings and has a big impact on Bairstow as well, who looks a completely different player without him. Without Roy, England would have scored 260-270 here which would have been very difficult to defend.

The only wasy I could see us going through with a England win is if NZ get out for like 200 here that would there run rate as low as ours I think.

I have no doubts on his ability. But so far he has fallen to that ultimate stage (Final Stair)

Either nz get bowled out for 30 or get the target.. anything in between its curtains for pak.

We are out now

Kiwis will go defensive once they lose a few wickets

Gutted :(

Everyone on here is so negative lol, just be positive and back New Zealand. If Guptill and Williamson get going this target will be very chaseable. Just relax everyone

England should be able to shut NZ down but if NZ manage to chase this tgere are no more excuses for England :inti Mamoon

The pitch's behaviour in the second half of the innings nullified England's home advantage, but they still have enough runs on the board.

I was expecting 480 and hoping for NZ to get bowled out for 200.
