However, lets give everything a thought. Pak won a 50 over ODI ICC tournament in last decade with CT 17, achieved no 1 test ranking (Ranking aside lost only two home series in the last decade), remained number 1 T20 team for almost two years.

People often forget that there are 3 formats in total. Pakistan despite all the struggles in ODIs won an ICC trophy in the last decade. Not to forget last decade was one of the worst one (With no cricket at home, 3 banned top players) and Pak still achieved no 1 ranking in 2 formats and wont an ICC tournament in another one. Not saying Pak was world beater or something but, there is no way one can downplay achievements as well which critics have tendency to and whenever Pak looses something there are threads that how everything is finished.

So I'm wrong after 1 series ? So by that logic when South Africa beat Australia they are definitely a force.

I don't get mad when someone says South Africa are not a top team. I get mad when people say South African cricket is finished which is not the case.

And when I said they would be a force, what I meant was the would beat the lower teams and challenge the big 3. Maybe beat them in some series. It won't happen after 1 week of me making that thread. It will take time. But eventually South Africa will return to being a top team . A situation which is unlikely with Pakistan.

Pakistan could have easily lost that test series 2-0 if it wasn't for rain in the last game and England didn't play their full strength team against us in the T20s. They played their full strength team against South Africa. That is why there is no need to say South African cricket is finished when they are losing to the best team in the world in LO.

Sure they managed an ODI series win against Australia. But we can't forget all their other poor results. whitewashed at home by SL, 7th place finish in the World Cup (even lost to Bangladesh), 3-0 in India (huge margins), losing home test series vs England.

We can "what if" about the Pakistan England series all we want, the result won't change. Only a few key players were missing (Roy, Bairstow, Malan, Morgan, Jordan, Curran, Rashid were all still playing). Home/away factor could negate that quite easily.

Their batting is one of the ATGs but you cannot expect it to win every single match covering for the bowlers. Even the highest rated bowler Jofra Archer was smashed to bits just yesterday by Rassie van der Dussen. And how long will they rely on Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid to bowl their mediocre spin? We beat them twice.
