Ehsan Mani speaking to the media:

"We are talking about a short visit, not by their main team as they will be in Sri Lanka; But, its important from the country's perspective - like the MCC team visited Pakistan is that we get another visit; We have 2 important tours coming up in 2021 and 2022 with Australia first and then England; So the messages that go through these sort of short tours is very very powerful"

"We are very grateful to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and now Zimbabwe for sending their full teams; There cannot be a more powerful message that tours from each one of these countries has sent which is that they are comfortable with the security arrangements; they are very comfortable with how we are handling the bio-security arrangements; And obviously, for Pakistan's point of view its important that cricket is taking part in Pakistan"

"There is a problem for people travelling during the Covid-19 period as any England players when returning home would need to go into self-isolation for 2 weeks; But I am very hopeful that if the English side comes we will get some of their top officials come to Pakistan as well; They've been there before - Tom Harrison the Chief Executive ofthe ECB has been to Pakistan before, as had the previous Chief Executive of Australia Kevin Roberts, so we look forward to welcoming board officials as soon as travel permits"

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani has said that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will send a second-string side for tour of Pakistan in January next year.

While talking during a press conference in Rawalpindi, Mani stated that England’s main team will be on Sri Lanka’s tour during their visit of Pakistan.

“Main team of England will be in Sri Lanka but they'll be touring Pakistan for T20Is at the same time to send worldwide message that Pakistan is safe country to play cricket. Top officials of England will be coming to Pakistan during tour,” said Mani.

England are considering touring Pakistan for a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series in January 2021, according to The Times.

England have not toured Pakistan since 2005 amid security concerns, especially due to the 2009 terrorist attack on Sri Lankan team in Lahore.

Pakistan were one of four teams that went over to the United Kingdom (UK) this year, amid Covid-19 pandemic, which played a major role in keeping financial losses at a manageable level for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The ECB has already confirmed that that have received a formal invitation from the PCB regarding the tour.

Mamoon pointed this our correctly.

People were dancing that because Pakistan played in England during covid19, England will repay the favor. He pointed out nothing like this will happen, and some posters claiming to work with cricket admins in England said that it will happen.

And now we have got the news. ECB will be sending a C grade team.

In a full tour to Pakistan, they will send a c grade team. This tour was never on the cards in the first place

This is a watershed moment in the return to normalcy in Pakistan cricket I reckon.

But it'll still be a while before Aus and the Blackcaps tour.

Why would you expect anything other than a second string team? This tour wasn't in the FTP, it is being accommodated on short notice and due to COVID delays, England have a packed schedule anyways.

A, B, C, D, or E team. This tour opens the floodgates for other SENA nations as officially it is the England national team.

Sorry to crash the party :)

In cricketing terms its obviously disappointing that its not the core of the actual side. However, in non cricketing terms this is a huge moment in normalising international cricket being played in Pakistan.

This tour will require clearance from the Foreign Secretary and the Foreign office. If it goes ahead it implies that the UK government has deemed Pakistan safe ( or at the very least deemed them capable of holding a cricket tour safely). Thats a truly significant step.

At the very least I reckon a tour by England will get a mention in the Aussie/Kiwi media. Could help with the image of the country a bit more and help attract players from them to the PSL for instance.

Indeed. Never underestimate the soft power even in sport.

It's a double edged sword for Pakistan though. The slightest incident could get magnified and bring everything to a screeching halt.

Given the tour of Sri Lanka is a Test series - I would think most of the T20 specialists should be ready to come out to Pakistan.

So here is how it works. If ECB send a second-11th string side to Pakistan, they will not have any excuses to move the Pakistan away series (FTP and WTC point) to any other venue in 2022.

So let’s quietly hope nothing goes wrong and England go ahead with this.

Not a shock with England schedule and a lot of there players have spent a lot of time in the bio bubble already.

Butler, Stokes and Archer most likely will not. They are the biggest draws from the Test side and probably in the limited overs side as well.

Morgan as we know is not going to come due to his stubborn stance and view on Pakistan’s safety arrangements. Can’t be sure about Bairstow. Jason Roy should come tbf but you never know with his mood swings, might not fancy the bubble or quarantine etc.

I doubt Tom Curran will fancy this tour either.

I think the excuses and negativity have started to appear from the English side.

Add to the mix, a possible Sri Lanka tour and it's all a bit of a mess and up in the air.

Sri Lanka away for Test cricket is one of the hardest tours for the English. They won’t chase 100 in a 4th innings against no name Sri Lankan spinners.

Might as well opt out of that bio bubble

The English journalists and Sky team can talk nonsense about Pakistan doing England a favor by touring in the summer, but ECB is smart enough to see that Pakistan came to serve its own interests.

Nevertheless, even if England sends their reserves team, it can be viewed as a watershed moment because it officially signals the return of international cricket to Pakistan. PCB needed a Big 3 board to tour.

Moreover, ECB sending a weakened side is also good news from a cricketing perspective because it gives us an outside chance of winning the series.

should look something like this

banton
roy
vince
malan
livingstone
gregory
mooen
rashid
mahmood
willey
curran

billings etc might come too. Will happily take this as a PAK fan

Whats the point of it really? Either you send your real team or you dont come at all. Any concerns that are valid for the original team should be valid for the B or C team as well. Doesnt make sense.

England won 3-0 last time around in Sri Lanka. :)

The main players (Root, Stokes, Butler, Archer etc) will be in Sri Lanka playing the tests. On top of that, this series wasn't part of the FTP. So, you and other Pak fans should be delighted that they're coming in official capacity (doesn't matter if it's c team) instead of complaining.

England's 2nd XI in T20's is more then capable of upsetting teams ranked in the top 5, exciting / expressive bunch

It doesn't matter who plays in the team, they are all people and are all going to be British nationals. If a team representing England arrives in Pakistan and goes through the tour without any glitch, the message is loud and clear that Pakistan is now cricket viable.

That's a positive step. That's all that matters for Pakistan right now.

Okay that makes more sense. I didnt know that they would be on duty elsewhere.

Indication seems to be that BBL players won't be pulled away from Australia given the situation at the moment which would rule out that top 6. I expect one of Moeen or Rashid will somehow make their way into the test squad as well.

A team put together off the top of my head from players I think would be available:

Duckett
Salt
Kohler-Cadmore
Evans
Abell
Billings*+
Willey
Dawson
Jordan
Rashid
Topley

Clarke
Mahmood
Crane

we haven't had cricket for so long, we finally get an England team come over and people start complaining. even if it is a z list team they will give us a game, its more the principle like some have mentioned before this should open the floodgates, and put the wheels in place for some normality, no offence to SL and ZIM but england would be a massive coup.

Exactly right. This will be an official England team visiting Pakistan. This will, by definition, garner a lot of attention. Assuming there are no issues, this should provide some measure of confidence to other teams.

Whichever players are chosen, the England team will still give the current Pakistan side a run for their money....

England have more depth and experience in their B team to be better than most teams in LOI's.
