What's new

England overwhelm Pakistan with massive innings and 55-runs win at Headingley to draw series

Pak's disastrous game ends

Headingley, Old Trafford or Edgbaston. They are always horrible for us. Even with the great Inzi, YK we lost at these venues.

Played England, first test win in, what, nine tests?

Whatever must they be thinking about how they played at Lord's.

So pleased to see Buttler and Bess do well. May they have long test careers.

Should have been a five-test series though.

Yet another tour where the juniors outperform the seniors yet will not be rewarded while the latter hog on to their spots to torture us for years to come.

A much needed reality check. As usual, some of our fans' heads were in the clouds after one win.

We were unlucky this game.

Conditions favoured England bowlers more when they bowled.

We could have performed worse in Lords had English fielders not given extra lives to our batsmen, they need to value their wickets more, and stop selecting players who average less than 40 in FC like Nephew Haq.

Looking at some of the reactions, it's as though England whitewashed us rather than us drawing a series 1-1 overseas.

A pathetic batting performance.

I don’t mind if our batters nick it behind off a good delivery but Azhar and Sohail should bow their heads in shame.

Safaraz at 6 is also not working.

England played much much better and you have to congratulate them on how they bounced back.
However, they went back to basics and and their basic was two to three notches above our level.

A totally atrocious batting display with batsmen losing their wickets to the worst shots imaginable. There was a clear lack of intent to remain at the crease by the likes of Faheem. Keeping in mind much of day one was a wash out Pak lost this match in about two days! Lets stop kidding ourselves like we have been after winning at Lords. The batting is as terrible at it always was with the likes of Azhar doing nothing as always. No point in changing personnel unless there are better alternatives. Don't see the point in a two Test series at all. Either make it three or five.

Just like one victory does not mean we are the best in the world one loss also does not mean we are rubbish.A good series this where we made bold decisions and learned quite a few thing about this team pleayly of positives with some reality checks I am quite satisfied

What a drubbing! This is how you learn from your mistakes, well done England and congrats to their fans :)

Honestly we only went with 3 real specialist batsmen.

Azhar, Asad and Haris.

Babar gone was a big blow and Usman's selection was crazy tbh. Fakhar was a better and more attacking option.

Can never bat 1st on any pitch with this fragile batting lineup.

We will continue to be ranked 6th/7th. That is the definition of rubbish.

Mainly because it was only one team collapsing and not both.

Even settled, experienced Asian Test teams have struggled in the North of England so this result is no surprise. England were always going to come hard at us after the Lord's debacle.

However it's still sad that we crumbled so badly in this Test after how well we performed at Lord's. The batting, especially with Sarfraz at 6, still looks flaky and we may need to return to six specialist batsmen with a hard South Africa tour this winter.

Azhar needs to sort his technical issues which were exposed on this tour, namely to inswinging deliveries. Shafiq had a better tour with important fifties in Malahide and Lord's, and got some good balls, so don't get some of the vitriol directed his way. However Sarfraz deserves all the criticism he gets for a horrendous tour with the bat. Haris needs to get fitter and convert starts to big knocks, whilst Shadab deserves to bat higher than his skipper.

Overall, those being honest with themselves will have taken 1-1 before this series, along with a win over Ireland. These highs and lows are to be expected from an inexperienced team which hopefully can improve when we play more red ball cricket.

Bad result but overall am happy. If you offered me a 1-1 draw before the start of the series, with our main spinner injured, and obviously YK and Misbah retired, I'd have bitten your hand off for it.

Pathetic

but it's what we are known for

no batsman did anything special during the series

Azhar/Shafiq/Sarfraz didn't step up and they are seniors
Shafiq needs to know his spot isn't guaranteed
he is too protected
should be a 3/4

Congratulations to England, they lost the toss but bowled brilliantly in the first session of day one. Since then Pakistan were behind the game.

Overall 1-1 isnt a bad result away from home in England starting in May.

Mohammed Abbas has made his mark on world cricket, he will take out top class batsmen or 3/4 years to come.

Won 2 Tests, lost 1.

Not a bad result. Lots to learn and build from this. Azhar and Asad disappointed. They should have stepped up but failed to do so. Sarfraz kept brilliantly, so did his main job well. His batting has been lacklustre for a while now, and is affecting the balance as we need 5 bowlers.

Nice to see some interaction between the opposing players after the match. Fakhar was having a chat with Joss and so were Shadab and Curran.

Thought it was poor that Sarfraz and Root didn't shake hands after the trophy.

Back to our real aukaat in tests ... batting line up was always going to rear its ugly head, was just a matter of time!

Hold on!

In modern cricket there is no such a thing as a specialist keeper. By saying Sarfaraz did his main job you are implying as if he is in the team for purely keeping and his batting is just an added bonus. When that's not the case.

Sarfraz can't justify his pathetic batting in recent times in anyway.

Azhar, Asad and Sarfaraz should all feel the heat.

I agree there is no place for a specialist keeper. Which is why I said his poor bat performances do affect the team balance going forward. But he took all his catches this tour. Atleast you can say he did his keeping job well.

Pakistan went to England in 2016 with much more experienced team and ended up with 2-2 draw.
This team was meant to lose 2-0 instead they have got an AWAY 1-1 draw in England.

Lets not forget 5 time world champions Australia's last 4 Tours of England have ended
2005 2-1 England
2009 2-1 England
2013 3-0 England
2015 3-2 England.

South Africa lost 3-1 last year and India lost 3-1 in 2014 and 4-0 in 2011.
West Indies also lost 2-1 last year.

Not a bad result at all and we won at Lords in front of Theresa May.

I don't mind losing but the way we lost was just a cowardice performance, seniors let the team down badly and no fight whats so ever. Clinical to dismal in just one week epitomizes Pakistan cricket perfectly.

This England team isn't any good, u will see that against India.

A much needed reality check. As usual, some of our fans' heads were in the clouds after one win.

Winning at LORDS with such a YOUNG team was very special. So we as PAK fans did celebrate like one should after such a historic win!

Now lets see what your team does. Last 2 times was like 4 - 0 and 3 - 1 . OUCH!

I said after the first test that it wouldn’t have mattered who batted first. Well I’m having second thoughts. I think it’s a confidence thing. England looked rusty and low on morale in the first match but they got it back in the first session of the second test.

True but what do you expect from azhar and shafiq?
The youngsters and bowlers carried the team.

But bhai INDIA will lose for sure.

As usual. Seniors were big disappointed and a positive to be taken from youngsters

Azhar Ali is not a good opener. We need an openers with good defence who can occupy the crease for a long time.We also need a couple of really quick bowlers.

A well fought series and congratulations to both teams for capitalizing the conditions given.
Pak has achieved more in Eng by drawing to a higher ranked team with an inexperienced test squad playing away on lively tracks. Eng will now feel confident playing against Ind.

Overreaction...we have a very good side, just need sarfraz to start making runs or go with shadab at 6 or even go with 6 batters...
Thats the only weak link in my opinion.
I would also like azhar to bat one down but not overtly concerned by this...

1-1 is a satisfactory result, but this Test loss is hard to digest with yet another disastrous batting display.

I agree there is no place for a specialist keeper. Which is why I said his poor bat performances do affect the team balance going forward. But he took all his catches this tour. Atleast you can say he did his keeping job well.

That is fair enough.

So at the end of the series, it is 1-1.
A fair result for both teams.

However, this was Pakistan's best chance to win a series in England.

Pakistan would have taken 1-1 result before start of the series. But nobody would have thought that they will take the lead and gone into the 2nd test with a chance to win series!
They will be a bit disappointed but not dismayed. This result is good for Pakistan.

Don’t want this team with Azhar , Asad and Sarfaraz playing 5 tear series. England would have won 4-1!.!

We were poor in all 3 facets after being brilliant at Lord's. Our test team still needs time to develop but the experience players need a kick up the backside.

This test was a mirror image of the Lord's test

Both captains made the wrong call after winning the toss

1-1 is a fair result considering our weak batting

Fantastic performance overall, very satisfied; didn't expect them to win the series but was confident of our team winning a Test and they deserve a lot of credit especially given their inexperience. Touring England at this time of year is the toughest in terms of conditions but they gave a great account of themselves.

When I told you guys that two test series is more like a lottery, you started making fun and said what not, some of you guys were hyping or should I say over hyping them.

I am not worried about a loss, just the way we got crushed. We lost the match on day 1 and were never in the game. That’s what disappoints me.

Relax people. It was a bad game and it's a young team. 1-1 is not a bad series result, though losing by an inning like this does annoy me a little.

Pakistan needs to play more to gain more experience. They don't play enough unlike other 4-5 teams which is ridiculous. Next test series is not until the end of this year and in between they are playing Zimbabwe :yawn

We will continue to be ranked 6th/7th. That is the definition of rubbish.

You don't seem to let any opportunity go to ridicule Pakistan on PP that I have noticed. It's a young team which doesn't play enough and did win a big recent tournament. Being on the criticism boat is easy.
