India’s squad for T20I series against England announced

The Men’s Selection Committee has picked India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming IDFC First Bank five-match T20I series against England starting from 22nd January in Kolkata.

India’s squad for T20I series against England: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel (vc), Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel (wk).

Rishabh Pant in T20Is:

Matches: 76
Runs: 1209
Average: 23.25
SR: 127.4
50s: 3

However @Devadwal he has rightly been dropped from India's T20I squad.

5 T20s. What a damn waste of time.

Should be a good ODI series though.
T20Is are very popular in Ind. They all will be sell outs. The ODI matches will not be sellouts. The regular public in SC - incl Ind Pak Ban SL - are very different from us cricket followers here. They will lap up the T20s. Thats just the reality folks have to accept.

Pretty good squad. Cant complain too much. Leeches rohit kohli jadeja klrahul out - so team looks so much better. Actually this should be the ODI team as well I dont mind - the leeches have to be dropped for good.

Should have been a 7 game Odi series with lone T20, BCCI has deep pockets so why not prioritise ODIs.

All ODIs should have been spread across India with games in Pune, Kochin Ranchi, Indore Dharamsala , Jaipur & Kolkata

I am liking the look of our T20 team. Young team will explosive batters top to finish, decent seam bowlers and attacking spinners. I am sure Gambhir will like working with this bunch of lads as well compared to the prima donas we have in test squad. Remember the same set of players absolutely destroyed SL and BD team recently. The only thing need to see if these set of young players have the temperament to deliver in ICC events.

Pant should stick to test cricket only for now. In T20s, it should be Samson and ODIs it will be KL

ODIs and T20s need to combine into a single white ball format(i.e. T30). So, all tours will have 5 T30 matches and everyone including boards, players, and fans are happy.

Instead both teams should have played 5 ODIs instead of T20s. Anyways BCCI will look to prepare UAE like pitches instead of motorways or phata wickets.

England odi bowling is quite impressive with archer, wood,Gus attkinson, saqib, adil.i think either rohit or gill will have a torrid time during odis paving way for jaiswal. Rohit can't survive beyond pp and can't hit archer, wood in pp like sl attack to appear "selfless pp bully ".Gill will try to take time but rohit can't.Going to be game of thrones with ct around the corner. In short India team is doomed for an ignominious exit in ct.

If Samson can score couple of more centuries or had a great t20 series, he can dislodge gill.Abhishek sharma with out dropping his intent should try to be bit more consistent than binary digit scores.

India squad for Champions Trophy and england series: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill (vc), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant & Ravindra Jadeja , Harshit rana( For England series)

@Rajdeep
You should tag brother @Slim also who was hoping India will get eliminated in group stages. Not sure if he is having second thought looking at that team.

No second thoughts, indian team and its team management is cooked.

Lets start with the intense infighting in the team with an extremely politicized and toxic atmosphere. Reminds me of 2017 CT, some things never change with India.

Then naming a perennial failure, upper caste, Shubman Gill as a VC, giving a slap to the face of talent like lower caste shudra/obc, Jaiswal. Showing him his aukat that no matter how talented you are, your caste will decide your fate in India even in 2025.

Not to forget lower caste Rinku, and Karun, or Sanju Samson getting dropped / not getting a whiff of selection while players like Jadeja, Rahul show up as a god given right.

India is so cooked because of how backward the mentality and culture is.

I have no doubt in my mind that you are definitely not even getting a sniff of the trophy. Saim’s untimely injury has made the India Pak game 50-50 from 30-70 but i still back NZ and Pak to rout this symbolism of corruption, backwardness, and noveau richness to be kicked out of group stage.

Gems like these make me appreciate the Indian education system a bit more. We could do a lot worse.

No personal vehicles for players in Kolkata as BCCI rules enforced before ENG T20Is

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has put restrictions on the personal travel of players ahead of the first T20I against England following the imposition of the strict directives by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). The BCCI formed strict rules for players after their recent series loss against Australia as they cut short the stay of families during foreign tours, put restrictions on personal shoots during series amongst other directives.

According to PTI, the BCCI has sent the 10-point diktat to the State Associations that will be hosting matches in the upcoming white-ball series against England. Ahead of the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, CAB President Snehasish Ganguly revealed that they haven’t made any special arrangements for any player for travel keeping in line with the new policy of the BCCI.

"In keeping with the BCCI's 10-point guidelines for players, the Cricket Association of Bengal has not arranged any separate means of conveyance [for individual players]. Only a team bus has been arranged for the Indian team. There won't be any personal vehicles for the cricketers. We have to follow the guidelines, which clearly state that all players are expected to travel with the team to and from matches and practice sessions,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.

The Indian Cricket Board made it mandatory for players to travel with the team for training and all matches to ensure team cohesion and discipline in their new directives. The move is aimed at fostering a more professional and unified team culture while emphasising the holistic development of cricket at all levels.

Apart from that, they also made it mandatory for players to participate in domestic cricket while not being on national duty. The effect of the policy is already being seen as Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma have confirmed their availability for the next round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25.

However, star batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul won’t be seen participating due to their respective injuries. Recently, Chief Ajit Agarkar commented on the new directives of the Board and said that it’s not a punishment for players, mentioning that all teams have certain rules in place which need to be followed by the players.

England, please don't rest archer and wood in odis .pls humiliate washed up superstars to go in to hiding and resign before ct.

SInce T20s are 4 over thing they bowled at full tilt. I expect them to bowl at slightly slower pace atleast ARcher in the ODIs as it is not possible to sustain the pace.

It's not about full tilt.Rohut and kohli used to take time against archer and wood as they are quick( prime example 2019 wc game) .they used to attack others after pp.now rohit can't stay beyond pp due to his fitness issues masked as selfless intent . it forces unnecessary risks against any good bowler. If one of the opener is perished then definitely kohli can't survive against those quality quicks .it's going to be lot of fun for them against quality attacks .kohli even if survive pp , he has to survive against adil.

IN 2022 world T20 it is even more shambolic. ON an absolute raod pitch at adelaide oval Rohit and Rahul were scoring at 4 an over against Sam CUrran and Ben stokes.

Mickey Mouse T20 series is finally done.

Real cricket begins now (ODI series).

22 Asia cup and t20 wc has that Rohit's dumbness and dravid's play safe with trundlers imprint all over it.They picked avesh , harshit, bhuvi for batting .bhuvi was a huge failure in 2014 aus tour as pitches are not conducive to swing. Not using shami or not picking siraj, Kuldeep who destroyed full time sa squad in an odi series just before that cup.Not picking gill over kl and supporting him despite minnow bashing.one hell of a time for Indian fans.

Ya.. we had too many "self-appointed" anchors

I am glad ODI series comes up after T20 series. Now seniors are under pressure to do well against England.

Now everyone knows gambhir isn't the problem. Focus will be only on the performance. No where to hide after bgt.

England's Smith likely to miss first two ODIs v India

England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith is likely to miss the first two one-day internationals against India this week but is expected to be fit for the Champions Trophy.

Smith, 24, has a calf issue which caused him to leave the field during the third T20 in Rajkot on 28 January.

He missed the following two games as India won the series 4-1.

The three-match one-day international series begins in Nagpur on Thursday (08:00 GMT), with the second match following on Sunday.

The final match - England's last outing before their Champions Trophy opener against Australia on 22 February - is on Wednesday, 12 February.

The eight sides have to name their final Champions Trophy squads the same day.

Joe Root has joined England for the ODI leg of the tour but England's batting line-up will largely be the same as the one that struggled in the T20s, with Smith's absence limiting their options.

Phil Salt and Ben Duckett are set to open, with Root returning at number three for his first 50-over international since the 2023 World Cup.

Captain Jos Buttler, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell are the middle-order options.

Spinner Rehan Ahmed, initially only selected for the T20 leg, has been added to England's squad for the ODIs.

He did not play during the T20 series, with England preferring a four-strong pace attack, but Ahmed's retention gives England the option of selecting him alongside fellow leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

India spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been added to the ODI squad for the three-match series against England following his outstanding performances in the T20Is

The mystery spinner, who is uncapped in ODIs, joined the national team’s training camp in Nagpur on Tuesday ahead of the first ODI, scheduled to be played on Thursday.

For the unversed, Chakravarthy bagged the Player of the Series award in the five-match T20I series against England, after claiming 14 wickets at an average of 9.86 with an economy of 7.66.

It is time for ICC to decide future of ODI cricket after 2027 WC.

There is no format more boring than a onesided ODI. Even though result is known well in advance it takes about 5-6 hrs more to get there

2 tier system in ODIs too. Teams that don't reach top 6 ranking in a given period should be relegated to tier 2.

If you find it boring then don't watch it. Just because you find something boring doesn't mean everyone else does. And it certainly doesn't mean there has to be some grand solution to it. Alot of other sports have one-sided contests too. You don't hear those fans complaining about 'rethinking the sport'. One-sided test matches last even longer. Should we make them 3 days now so they are less boring for you?

In his pre-match analysis on a sports media outlet, Zaheer Khan stated that he believes there will be only one lineup change for the second ODI against England:

"Keeping the next game in mind, if Virat is fit and available, he will come into the playing XI. That's the only change that I am seeing. I think they would want to finish the series and then look at making other changes. Shami playing is very important because he came back from injury, so game time is very important for him. I think Shami will play all three games. Harshit had a good debut, so I do not see that change either."

Squad Update: Tom Banton has been called up by England as cover for the third ODI against India!

And the wait continues

This is like a warmup series before CT.

England didn't even field their main team (Sam Curran and Bairstow were missing).

:inti
England can't play spin. That's their downfall. And phil salts form is rubbish.

England's biggest problem is that their bowlers are crap. Their spinners couldn't trouble Pakistan on lottery pitches and they allowed a crap batter like kamran to smack a century against them.

As batters Butler is proving himself to be a t20 basher only, he's only good for 30 runs,

And root has a horrible conversion rate. He gets to his 50 but that's it. And Brooks is a circus clown against spin.

He's an amazing batter against pace which is why he'll be threat during Ashes, but he can't play spin for the life of him.

Their an overrated odi team. NZ and south africa on current form are stronger.

And sadly aus is not at full strength but a full strength aus would murder them.

Infact I wouldn't be surprised if Afghanistan beats them in CT depending on the pitch.
