Tom Cooper is back as the Netherlands announce squad for England ODI series

The hosts have named a provisional 18-man squad for the three ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League matches against England in Amstelveen.

In addition to Cooper, who is set to play his first ODI in nine years next week, the Netherlands have named uncapped Tim Pringle, a 19-year-old left-arm spinner who has played for New Zealand's Under-19s.

Pringle is the son of Chris Pringle, who played in the Netherlands in the ‘90s and also played for the New Zealand men’s national team, racking up a total of 61 one day internationals to his name.

Cooper, who has played 41 international games for the Netherlands across ODI and T20I cricket, returns to the squad for the first time since 2016 when he played in a T20I match against Ireland.

The Netherlands are coming off a tough ODI series loss against the West Indies where they put up very competitive performances in every game but ended up losing the series 3-0.

But captain Pieter Seelaar is looking at the positives from that series and hopes to continue the progress and development against the reigning ODI world champions.

Seelaar said, “After a very competitive series against the West Indies, we take on the reigning world champions England, taking a lot of positives from the matches against the West Indies into the upcoming Series. In saying that, there are also areas we need to improve in order to be as competitive against England.”

The team’s High Performance Manager, Roland Lefebvre said, "We are very pleased with the arrival of Tom Cooper, who brings with him a huge amount of experience. The knowledge and experience, but also the mentoring role that Tom will have within the young Dutch national team, is of great value. Tom is available for the rest of the international fixtures."

The hosts who are currently 13th on the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League table will have a chance to add some points to their tally, while England have a chance to stake a claim for the number one spot in the standings.

Cricket World Cup League 2 Standings
This is a historic occasion for both teams as it's the first time the England Men's team will play the Netherlands in an ODI series.

With crucial CWCSL points up for grabs, England announced a strong side for the tour with their regular white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan leading the team.

The Netherlands provisional squad to face England:

Pieter Seelaar (captain), Scott Edwards (wicketkeeper), Musa Ahmad, Shariz Ahmad, Logan van Beek, Philippe Boissevain, Tom Cooper, Aryan Dutt, Clayton Floyd, Vivian Kingma, Fred Klaassen, Ryan Klein, Bas de Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, Max O'Dowd, Tim Pringle, Vikramjit Singh, Shane Snater.

England Men's ODI squad named for The Netherlands Tour

England Men's selection panel have named a 14-strong squad for the three-match ODI series of The Netherlands starting at Amstelveen on 17 June.

England ODI Squad

Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) Captain
Moeen Ali (Worcestershire)
Jos Buttler (Lancashire)
Brydon Carse (Durham
Sam Curran (Surrey)
Liam Livingstone (Lancashire)
Dawid Malan (Yorkshire)
David Payne (Gloucestershire)
Adil Rashid (Yorkshire)
Jason Roy (Surrey)
Phil Salt (Lancashire)
Reece Topley (Surrey)
David Willey (Yorkshire)
Luke Wood (Lancashire)

Lancashire seamer Luke Wood and Gloucestershire paceman David Payne are the uncapped players named in the squad. This will be Wood's first call-up to the senior squad, and Payne has been involved previously in last summer's ODIs against Pakistan.

Commenting on the selection of the squad, England Men's White-Ball Head Coach, Matthew Mott, said:

"I'm very excited to be coaching a strong squad for my first series in charge. We have tremendous depth with a blend of youth and experience. We want to continue to play in an expressive style and let our players showcase their skills and firepower.

"Luke Wood deserves his call-up. He has been consistent for Lancashire over the past 12 months and we have been monitoring his progression. If given a chance to play, I'm sure he will make most of his opportunity.

"This is a historic occasion for the sport and the first time England Men have played The Netherlands in an ODI series. We can't wait to head over to Amsterdam and put on a show for the thousands of fans travelling to support the team.

"The ODI side has had limited opportunities and last played in July. However, with about 18 months to the next ICC 50 over World Cup in India, our preparation will start ramping up with nine matches over the summer and a busy winter ahead against strong opponents."

The three-match ODI series, which are part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, starts a busy summer for England Men with Royal London Series against India and South Africa scheduled for later this summer.

Notes:

ODI Series Schedule

1st ODI: The Netherlands v England, Friday 17 June, VRA Cricket Club, Amstelveen
2nd ODI: The Netherlands v England, Sunday 19 June, VRA Cricket Club, Amstelveen
3rd ODI: The Netherlands v England, Wednesday 22 June, VRA Cricket Club, Amstelveen

The Test team may be in the throes of a World Test Championship series with New Zealand, but England have a job to do in Cricket World Cup Super League action on the path to India 2023.

After three One Day Internationals against the West Indies, the VRA Ground in Amstelveen again sets the scene, with the tourists three wins away from the top spot in the 13-team competition.

England are heavy favourites to do the job across the three matches, though there may be rust to shake off, with an 11-month gap between One Day International fixtures.

Members of the Test squad are unavailable on the English side, though Eoin Morgan's side still boasts marked senior experience, with Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone and Jason Roy among the travelling party.

It's the first assignment for new white ball coach Matthew Mott, joining the side after his successful tenure with the Australian women's team. His Test coaching counterpart Brendon McCullum has enjoyed immediate success, with two wins from as many matches over his New Zealand countrymen.

The Dutch hosted the West Indies already in their home Super League summer, and the 3-0 series scoreline against Nicholas Pooran's men doesn't necessarily reflect the close nature of the series. Earlier in the cycle, the Dutch were too strong in a 2-1 series win over Ireland.

The words "Mandatory Release" are likely to give Dutch fans shivers, with a number of county-based players again unavailable for selection, as they were for the West Indies series.

The side is boosted by the return of Tom Cooper though, thrown back into the mix for the Dutch, having last appeared for them six years ago at the 2016 T20 World Cup. Should he make the playing XI, it will be his first ODI appearance since 2013.

Last Wkt: Jason Roy b Snater 1(7) - 1/1 in 1.3 ov.

must be a strange pitch

ENG 5/1 (2) CRR: 2.5

Lovely green ground in Netherlands for this. Bit of a slow outfield for some reason. Hot sunny day and enjoyable watching the batting.

Thats a reasonably strong side that England have put out.

Not too far off a full strength XI

Malan gets a reprieve on review, ball missing stumps, did look out.

ENG 82/1 (12.1) CRR: 6.8

Malan : 26 (30)
Salt :46 (37)

Yep. No half measures here.

Really only Bairstow missing due to the Test series. (and Root if he is still in the ODI setup’s plans? — probably is.)

England and Eoin Morgan have jumped off the plane into the Netherlands fully intending to take this series 3-0 in a clean sweep.

Phil Salt brings up his maiden ODI century, England on course for a big score int he first ODI.

Salt goes. Well played.

This could be a huge England score.

Phil Salt falls for a well played 122 of 93 balls. In walks Jos Butler, not sure things will get any easier for Netherlands

ENG 223/2 (29.4) CRR: 7.5

Malan : 86 (79)
Butler : 0 (0)

batting goes all the way to Rshid,

400 could be possible here

David Willey is a legit top 6 player in limited overs cricket and even he is slotted to bat at 9 today. Ridiculous lol

Highest score on this ground is 443 (scored by Sri Lanka against Netherlands in 2006).

The area is quite woody.

I think they should have some type of netting to ensure balls don't get lost.

They are losing too many balls due to Butler's onslaught. The area is way too woody.

England - 401/2 (44 overs).

Highest ODI score of all time is 481 (scored by England against Aussies). Can England break this?

32 from the over.

England - 446/4 (46 overs).

This is now the highest score ever on this ground. Also, this is the 2nd highest team score of all time.

Tuned in 30 mins ago, I have williow tv and im glad their showing this match what carnage love it :) but feel for netherlands as well, I am hoping Netherlands chase they can get a decent total.

Not many overs left can england get the highest ODI score ever.

Livingstone reaches his 50. Came from 17 balls.

This is the fastest English fifty in ODI.

England - 477/4 (49 overs).

Don't think England can reach 500 but they can break the world record (481).

498 holy wow :) well done England, a shame they were just 2 runs short from 500, but regardless a game to remember

Netherlands mentally lost the plot and were mostly bowling lemon meringue pies from about the 35th over onwards. They’re not used to this degree of extreme pressure at the top international level I guess.
