Terrible ball from Broad to gift Samaraweera a run, way to kill the pressure.

I am actually enjoying Samaraweera's inability to make a run. I think it will take him another 31 deliveries to get the second one. :azhar

The second one looked pretty adjacent live, and even at its failure is part of the pressure. No blame attached. The first one though was flippant and criminal.
 
This is where you need Bresnan ahead of Patel. What a waste of a new ball.

Jimmy and Draco are so good these days.
 
These two looking to get SL out of the hole here, the good thing is that England have to bat last , so there is some hope for SL here.

It looked like it spun too much regardless though. Or so I thought so, and unless things are absolutely plumb, umpire's decision ruins things.
 
Not agreeing with giving a part-timer one last crack before lunch. Best time to try and strike.
 
That will be lunch, Sri Lanka with a mini-recovery after England took out the top order early. Pitch is turning and bouncing already, lots of work ahead for Thilan and Mahela
 
Even session in the end, not a bad start to the series for us after losing the toss. Should be aiming to bowl Sri Lanka out today.
 
England have bowled well so far , but they need to make sure SL do not get to 300 , the pitch will turn more as the game progress.

Bizzare Patel is in and Bresnan is out.

Still, looking great for England thus far!
 
They reckon Samit is a much better batsman than Bresnan against spin bowling.

By the end of day two I imagine we will have found out whether or not they are right, and which why this match is going.

Bob said he got a bit bored watching the session but I really enjoyed it. Proper test cricket.
 
good start for england but if jayawardene and samaraweera get settled, they can score big. england should target 300 from here.
 
I reckon if we get them all out for 260 it will signify a good English performance. <200 would be a brilliant one.

Doesn't look to be great demons in the air or pitch, but it will need discipline for a team to score 400. If either team gets there, they will probably win the match via scoreboard pressure.
 
Should have played Bresnan. Another seamer would have been handy after early breakthroughs. Eng needs to get the home-track-bully out of the way quickly otherwise they're in for long.
 
Not looking too good right now. Good tight bowling, but pitch is flat.
 
Patel's selection over Bresnan is seriously annoying me right now. Pace is our strong suit and their weak point, and we pack three spinners.

Our seamers have hardly done anything because of the heat.
 
Get these piechuckers off, get some Trott, Broad and Anderson on in short spells.
 
Now, get seamers from both ends, and rip through the lower order. Anything more than 200 after this start would be foot off the throat.
 
31 overs left here ....... SL would look to bat out without loosing more than one more wicket. They should add another 100 here.
 
Must say the England selection is baffling.

We beat this mob at home with a debutant spinner and four seamers quite comfortably.

England are a better side than us with strong seam bowling and they pick three spinners?
 
Where is the commentary? it kind of disappeared when i was watching the game. not that i am missing greats like russel arnold.
