To win this, Sri Lanka will have to chase the highest score ever at Lords (over a century of Test matches played here)

I'm torn between declaring overnight and setting a hard 370 or so and batting again tomorrow morning for half an hour to get a bit more frustration going for them.

Frustration? SL will be happy if Eng bats tomorrow. There is a huge difference in watching Clarke and other captains right now. Eng should have pushed for quick runs 5-7 overs earlier and had 10 overs to bowl today against SL.

Well the frustration would be having to suit up and get on the field for 30 mins, instead of happily sitting back in comfy chairs and watching the openers make hay.

An opener having to field for 30 mins before getting his kit on and going in to bat is probably a bit more irritated than one who has time to get prepared and go for it.

England sadly always play to not lose. They've achieved that today, but they need to go for the game tomorrow. But on this pitch I don't see a result.

It would also help if Sri Lanka actually managed to match overrates instead of slowing down the game. How does a team that always has a spinner on, and a trundler at the other end never get over rate down? Hopefully we see captaincy suspensions and fines for the next match. The Sri Lankans are infuriating.

Awww mate, you should have declared!

Anyway, can G-Ball get his ton?

Proper thing to do is get Ballance his 100, declare overnight, deny a 5fer to Herath. No need to boost the morale of an opposition player in any way.

All that is understood but that means 10 less overs to survive. As SL captain, I won't mind if I have to survive 80 overs rather than 90 overs to save the test.

He absolutely better get it soon. If we bat tomorrow just to give him a shot at it, I will be furious over the overs wasted.

Well done Ballance! What a way to get it! And at a crucial juncture preventing a loss.

Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire!

What loss? SL was never winning this.

Could have happened at 200odd/5 or whatever. Plunkett and Jordan are fairly subpar. Broad not quite on for and Anderson bowling decent but this pitch makes him amount to nothing more than average.

Played Gary. My impression of you has suddenly shot up, repairing the innings after the two hundred-test veterans failed.

Anyway..... with the wicket scuffed up a bit and some balls shooting along the deck, can ENG get ten wickets tomorrow?

No, they cant. they should had declared when the lead was 325 to 350.
Batted way too long !

Anderson and Broad are not the type of bowlers that will run through a side.
The other 2 pacers well...

S-Bro (as he calls himself now) has run through sides a few times. Suddenly he'll just explode and take four wickets in a spell and turn the match. Not often though.

I agree that they batted too long. Of course they wanted a morale-boosting ton for Ballance. I'd have started the charge earlier and declared giving SL five overs to face before the close with maybe 325 to get, but Chef is from the conservative Gooch / Strauss school of captaincy where you shut the other side out before going for a win.

God Save The Queen!

Tomorrow shall be a glorious victory! We'll smash em all out in plenty of time for tea and cake in the afternoon. Then we will thrash em up North at a proper cricket ground. The REAL home of cricket: Headingley.

Anderson and Broad surely can do it. They did it against NZ in no time last year. Anderson single handedly took apart Australia at Trent Bridge. They just won't on this pitch.

Lords is not the home of cricket - it is the home of posh nancies who are most interested in prawn sandwiches and champagne.

The new home of cricket is Headingley! We at Headingley are interested in meat pies, and flasks of tea whilst we watch our beloved Yorkshire in the sleet.

I much prefer Trent Bridge. Our bowlers run riot there.

I would like to say OT is a great 2nd home for English cricket but it is sadly not a good pitch or a good match there.

I do hope eng pull it off but you need a steyn or a mitch here.

never understood captains waiting for personal milestones. Its about winning a test not making 100 runs.

Looking forward to todays play after a yawn inducing three and a half days of boring cricket.

I believe England have the upper hand. If they can get Sanga early, England will win.

SL should go for a win, then they will surely win. With draw mindset lose is on cards.

Sanga has moved past Chander in terms of most test runs, what a legend.

I cant see SL going for a win would be tremendous if they tried but Mathews isn't that aggressive :misbah

England aren't being aggressive enough. With these runs at their back they should have four slips up the whole time, forgetting this bang-in stuff, pitching it up and not worrying about drive balls.

From cricinfo

"Sri Lanka have made an assured start, the sort of solid session that will have sapped England's hopes of taking 10 wickets. Whether there's enough room in the game to whip up a chase later in the day will depend on this partnership and, in particular, the next one, between Sanga and Mahela. Join Alex in half an hour to see whether this game will go giggedy-giggedy goo..."

How do they know that the next partnership is going to be between Sanga and Mahela?

Match fixed #justsaying

RRR to force a victory is up to 4.5 now.

Lord's is nearly empty. SL are not much of a draw, sadly........
