Same old rubbish. England bottled it, it has been a pretty ordinary performance by Australia.

Moeen living dangerously, but that's the way he plays.

Moeen is a good timer of the ball, another similarity with MoHa. I'd prefer him to open in ODIs though, he is wasted at number 7.

It is a tricky situation for England though because Roy is doing well so far and Hales needs to the main ODI opener, and for number 3/4/5 you have proper batsmen like Taylor, Root and Morgan respectively.

Stokes, Buttler, The Beard, Rashid and Woakes is a lot of firepower.

Adil Rashid played scared against Pacers. Did not look comfortable.

Moen Ali is a much better bat.

Starc is already an ODI great, could end up as the greatest ODI bowler ever. Every time he bowls he looks like picking up 4-5 wickets.

Well that's the end of that.

Awful shot though, Umar Akmal would have been proud.

People are stuck in purana zamana. 305 is a joke in the Ageas bowl in modern ODI cricket. Extra man out in last 10 won't make any difference. This England side isn't going to wait till then. It would be surprising if Australia managed to defend this.

Try again Mr. Analyst.

England would have knocked down those runs against most teams. Thanks to Aus pace battery, it is very hard to score 300 against the likes of Starc, Cummins and Coulter Nile.

so CricketAnalyst what will you say about this english team? Aren't they supposed to win this match? After all a total of 305 is a cake-walk, isn't it?

Left for college when England were well on top, like 120 odd for 2 down. Safe to say, I was quite disappointed when I opened Cricinfo in my probs and stats class :afaq + made me miss the whole lecture.

It should have been. I'll admit I was wrong in this instance. The middle order played in an uncharacteristically negative way and bungled a simple chase where they were huge favourites mid-way through.

I would stop making predictions if I was CricketAnalyst as they never seem to come true.

Save for Root the English middle order is pretty flakey.

Also this is the first game England have played under the changed post World Cup rules which give the Captain some defensive options at the end of the game.

Scoreboard pressure helped Australia defend that total despite only having Starc and two fringe bowlers.

You can't make judgements on a par total based on the old rules anymore because they were completely biased in favour of the batsmen.

With out Root , England can never chase this sort of total. A root, a Kohli , a smith, a willamson, is a must for every big chase. Some one who can play a long innings with a healthy strike-rate, and avoid unnecessary panic.

England pretty much threw this game away with the bat, loads of batsmen got starts but then got out to some pretty daft shots, james taylors brain **** being the worst. Australia were on the ropes after 75% of this game but managed to show signs of a champions team by snatching the oppurtunity england gave them.
