What's new

England vs India | 1st Test | Edgbaston | Aug 1-5, 2018 | Day 2 Thread

Nah he should be very good in this conditions. He has been poor since last year now.

Bowled pretty well in the Pakistan series from memory.

He blows hot and cold.

Legend gone, this innings would definitely be up there among the best ones

Also took a legendary review to dramatize the climax

Last tour it was Moin Ali, CD it be Sam Curran this time around..

Definitely the so called experts were right about what a talent Pandya is and sky is the limit for him. There might never be anyone like him again.

Still do not understand what is the purpose of David Malan. Cant bat and cant field

Eng should be able to get Indians around 200.

No it was the most fluent innings I have seen and some of those shots which found the gap between the hands and legs of slip fielders were awesome.

Is there a better cricekter than David Malan. Has already cost England some runs by dropping kphli and keeps on piling the runs. Secondly I can see him getting out ashwin in the second inning. Bring back haseeb hamid or other batsman

In a matter of hours, you will see the most fluent hundred too. Should I order some tissues in advance? :sree

So far every prediction is going perfect India's bench bowlers made the ball talk and the batsmen are batting like they are blind folded. It looks like a 300+ drubbing for us our batting is just  can't believe Pant has not been picked here.. any other team in the world would give him 5 tests without fear ... oh well it is India we are talking about

It's fine innings but most of runs came of edge and went to boundary imo. Few drops as well.

To be honest, batting was very hard. Seam movement, cloud cover, a lot of late swing, plus some outstanding bowling from Anderson, Stokes and Curran. To Kohli's credit, he played everything with soft hands, making sure that the ball does not carry as edges here only seemed like a matter of time.

With wickets falling around he needed a bit of luck to ride this session out. He survived. Still he can't resist that one day dab shot. He should totally abandon that for tests. It is a suicidal shot.

I respect Kohli as a cricketer and person so wont mind 100 from him at all. But cant cant let my biasedness come into play when I have to analyze the innings.

No need of tissues, i dont care who wins or looses as far as Pak isnt involved but still watch it bcz I like cricket.

Was expecting Kohli to perform here but gotta admit he got extremely lucky for this innings

Needed some. It was almost like every ball was going to get a wicket. He did the hard yards with a bit of luck. Hope he makes the most of it.

At least Kohli got there this time.

Albeit, with three dropped chances.

No excuses to not get a hundred.

Kohli deserves the luck - played brilliantly in these conditions.

Are you for real? Kohli is extremely lucky to be out there right now

Thes best innings recently in these english conditions was from Babar Azam, as smooth as silk. Was unfortunate to get retired hurt.

I wouldn't say it is master class like one of those Dravid's many masterful innings in swinging conditions. But he survived. He is a strong bottom handed player So he will continue finding hard edges every now and then. He has still not mastered the art of leaving the ball. He rode it out. He has somewhat countered by playing with soft hands. Great session for neutral fans. But for Indians it was an abysmal session.

He also struggles to play the ball late and that inability gets magnified in swinging conditions

That dab through third man is his bread and butter one day shot. He just has to completely forget about that shot in One dayers. He instinctively plays that shot every now and then. He is still maturing in that area. He is too good a batsman not to eventually find a way.

Like ball doesn't swing in South Africa? Didn't he outbat AB, Amla, Du Plessis etc in some of the toughest batting conditions?

His struggles have more to do with Anderson than anything else. Reminds me of Smith Vs Zaheer from 2000s.

SA is more bounce and pace than swing. For Kohli bounce and pace isnt much of a problem, its the late movement which is present mostly in Eng or NZ.

It doesn't matter how much Kohli struggles and how many of his catches are dropped as long as his runs make difference to the course of the game.

We dont want a Moyo but rather we would like to have a Younis.

Thanks everyone for all the love around.

The cloud clover that showed up outtta nowhere is Eng's 12th man .. just too much swing out there.

Anderson is back hoping for a closure to the contest

Its not unknown in UK. Even in Ireland’s first test match it was swinging like crazy in some session.

You should start watching Cricket.

Does it matters who outbatted whom? Kohli did all he could. Others didnt showed up in 2nd test and when others showed up in final one, India won.

Yes, he failed in first test but that had an attack of SRPM in SA conditions. Everyone would fail on it.

Bhuvi wouldn't be averaging 20 there if it was so, he literally toyed with Amla and their top order swinging it both ways. Kohli handled the conditions quite well, and he has a remarkable record in NZ too.

It may well be the case that Kohli is just Anderson's bunny. Even today, his struggles were limited to Anderson's bowling.

If England can maintain a lead of anywhere between 80-100, they have a great chance of winning this one. I believe ,due to the heat, that the pitch can and will take spin, Ashwin could be crucial in the coming day, which is why Englands lead needs to be as big as possible.

Have a feeling India will score around 250-270. Ashwin is an excellent fighter and expect some whacks from shami

Bhuvi played I guess 1 or 2 matches I guess? Its bcz swinging conditions are not common in SA.

Kohli was outstanding in that series, there is no denying that. Its not like he cant play at all if a ball moves but its his achilles heel

Technique wise and impact wise Ashwin is a better player than Sir Hardik Sobers Pandya.

Let's get rid of this wannabe Kapil Dev and include an extra batsman.

Was exactly thinking the same thing that he should have batted 5 down

He is not Kapil Dev obviously lol.

He is as good a batter as Kapil but as a bowler, he isn't even at the level of Stokes who is much inferior bowler to Kapil.

But if you replace Pandya, who will do the fifth bowling then??

Kuldeep Yadav/ jadeja. Connsidering pitches are turning

May be add another spinner in the form of Kuldeep as pace bolwers are mediocre as hell

What has he achieved with his bowling? Even kohli can bowl these dibbly dobbly balls and entertain the crowd. And kohli has a better hairstyle. He will look stylish.

Stokes is also an overhyped player.

That's what I said. But I am asking for a better replacement considering non-Asian conditions?

Two spinners can work or not. It can go either way.

Jadeja is useless with bat in England conditions.

Atleast there is a chance kuldeep can cause trouble. With pacers from India on display other than Shami there werent many troubling deliveries. Cant fault them, they are just not good enough
