Its looking bleak for Sri Lankans while the English have continued on with their form from the Ashes

Really hope the Lankan lions find a workable set of dentures...

And it would be most gratifying to see Messrs. Sangakkara and Jayawardene do something on pitches that are not straight from their beloved Premadasa. Ok, I exaggerate but they do need to get cracking to dispel criticism of their home track bullies penchant and prowess.

Wasn't even aware that he was rated at all!
However, there were murmurings of Vaas ready to heed his country's clarion call at the hour of need. While he is doing OK trundling away in CC div2, would his 75 mph dobbers do the trick in tests against vastly superior oppo?

i hope trott fails so there is some pressure on morgan, prior so they get a chance to do well too.
i hope kp comes good. he is great to watch when in full flow. and what better time to strike form than at home of cricket?

i hope srl lose this as well, srl will lose quite alot of points incase of white wash.

The only chance Sri Lanka have is recalling Charminda Vaas, he's currently in England and would no doubt still play for his country if asked.

Even then, there's a big difference between dismissing rubbish CC div 2 batsmen & getting out the run machines in England's top order.

tbh srilanka is one of the most overrated team in world, they are hard workers which make people overarte them but talent wise they are on same par as nz.

He would still be better than what they have now.

I would ease off on the run machine talk, it's been a long time since your Saffers played quality bowling. And no, it wasn't in Australia :p

Sangakkara and Dilshan and Jayawardene on par with the Kiwis in terms of talent!? Thought I'd heard it all....

If one were talking about the Pakistani batsmen, yes, then it is understandable. For example, Younis Khan is a hard worker though severely lacking in the talent stakes. Moyo is talented and Akmal....well, depends to be seen since he hasn't exactly set the world alight with his exploits in tests. The others are talentless no-hopers who are an embarrassment to batting and the tradition of great Pakistani batsmen!

Dilshan was never a quality batsman until lately whereas sanga and jayawardene they arent world class either, they are v good at home but so are most players at home on flat tracks.

now comparing them with younis or akmal is insane, akmal is a youngster who will learn with passage of time where as sanga, jaya and dilshan are above 33. younis and talent less, you must be joking, go and check his record and you will see the diff.

Well, if I'm joking, so must the chappie who piped up about the Lankan batsmen, right? Sanga and Jayawardene aren't exactly talentless nobodies, you know! Incidentally, their test records are better than Younis'.

Secondly, I was saying that Akmal is talented.

younis and dravid are very similar in their batting. both do the solidity job in their sides. its not exactly an attractive job but they are very effective at what they do. personally, i think both are very underrated.

wats wrong with u?! Why do u hate Sri Lanka so much. I would understand if a sri lankan said that to a pakistani as they have the right to be angry at pakistan. But theree not and i IMMENSELY respect how nice and forgiving they are.

And, yes they are very talented. Murali, Malinga, Jayawardene, Sanga, Dilshan, Angelo Mathews, Vaas, Jayasuriya..... look at these players.

They have reached the finals of so many recent world cups.

2010 World Cup Final
2010 T20 WC Semis
2009 T20 Final
2007 WC Final

They are extremeley consistent, and the only reason that there performing badly is because many of there top players retired.

Well this is about ODI, but in test they do lack a formidable lineup and will struggle for quite some time. Just Imagine soon their batting lineup will be without the services of Mahela and Sanga, they would be even weaker than NZ I would say.

But, given that Mahela and Sanga are still around, the initial statement by Pasktoon about their batting lacking talent was an absolutely asinine one.

South Afridi are second with 117 points on the test league while ENG are third with 115.

What have we got to do to go second?

Time for the Lankans to step up and show us what they're made of. Aged 34, this will probably be the last ttour to England for Jayawardena and Sangakarra - it's now or never.

win the series 3-0 and we go second with 118 points.

lanka should atleast try to fight. it was embarassing watching them bat like west indies.

You need to take 20 wickets and possibly take them cheaply to win a test match. Sri lankas attack looks very powder puff and i cant see them causing to many problems for england in this test either.

perera and lakmal as opening bowlers? if lankans dont pick up their game its gonna get ugly.

Select more of their players :)

Only kidding, I'm just jealous. Think you guys will be number 1 by the end of the summer.

Was it last summer against Pakistan ? they sure did face some quality bowling specially these two :asif:amir ?

no jimmy and this happened. i dont wanna know what would have happened if jimmy had been there. who knows 50 all out or something?

Srilanka just had a bad session and people are already saying they are not a good team, when was the last time the 1 ranked team lost? Who did they lose to? Srilanka will bounce back

They didn't go so well eh?

Trott was the leading run scorer against them ;scored 404 runs against Pak in 8 innings and in the 4th test he made 187
But still I think that was the toughest they have faced in the last two years in their home conditions

Last time when these two met on the same ground.

SL will be under immense pressure, that fifth day in Cardiff will take some getting over.

England had Fred, Tres and Hoggy in those days.

Wait, Chaminda Vaas hasn't retired?!

What a an extroadinary selection decision, he may be getting on a bit but he still has to be better than what's there at the moment. He's experienced in English conditions too, and is bowling very well for Northants.

Beautiful day in England by all accounts. Hopefully we win the toss and KP/Bell/Morgs get big runs. I'd be well up for losing early wickets and just watching these guys bat for ages.

Unless Sri lankas bowlers suddenly find some venom then they will struggle here like they did in cardiff.

Mendis and Perera out, Welegedera and Fernando in.

Sri Lanka choosing to bowl first? Not sure about that as a strategy, but we'll see.

Test Cricket in England is better than anywhere else and specially when it's at Lords. Can't wait for the match to start.

Cricinfo said in their pitch report that it's not expected to be as batting friendly as it has been in recent years :13:

Showing highlights of Trott 184 (383) against Pakistan last year. What an innings that was.

Yeah but that's like saying that Perth doesn't carry as much anymore (it still carries like a demon). Lord's post-2000 will always be batting-friendly for good players.

Sky Sports 1 of course. Best channel everrrr.

Trott 184 is one of the best test innings by an England player in some years.

Sri Lanka clearly don't fancy our attack much after the last game. Glorious day, should have batted.

Dilshan chooses to bowl! Is he mad?

When he called heads and it landed heads I almost stopped watching because I 'knew' he was going to bat.

This could be pontingatbirminghamesque.

England's bowling attack with Broad, Tremlett and Finn, Even the shortest of them is more than 5 inches taller than any Sri lankan batsmen :O

I also think it's fear. Very poor thinking. I would normally hesitate to judge before we've seen the England batting, but I'm not impressed with the Sri Lankan decision right now.

could go wrong though. only Tremlett is top-class and it's a bit of a one-dimensional affair.

Swann has always taken wickets when he has played tests at Lords, and I reckon we need at least seven from him again.

England attack in terms of pacers has a very similar feel to it, in saying that it doesnt mean that they cant be affective.

Finn is a wicket taker though.

He was really exposed at Perth. He doesn't get his front foot far enough up the bowling crease and the ball sits up to be hit. He notes this and tries to bowl full afterwards, which results in the occasional full toss. Both cases produce '4' balls, which is why he was dropped. He needs to be hitting the line consistently or he will never be a test-class bowler.

Unbelievable decision from Dilshan. Bowling first!! I almost had a heart attack.

Lanka's tail also looks ridiculously long now. Reminds me of the days of England having Read, Headley, Caddick Such, and Tuffers at 7,8,9, and 10. How things have changed.

Most UK bookies offer a market for the toss. Under such circumstances 'SL win toss and bowl' would be at least 7 or 8/1. Of course, would not suggest Dilshan knows anything about bookies or betting.

Good shout. Well P.Jayawardene averages 30 and he bats at 6 - the averages continue to plummet swiftly thereafter. I know P got a ton at Cardiff but he often gets out cheaply. If they don't bowl like the old West Indians then they're going to get mullered again.

Sri Lanka talked about no fear but courage. The decsion by Dilshan though is very defensive unless Dilhara and Chanaka do some magic with the new ball.

i hope lankans atleast put up a fight.. and gasp.. somehow win this test. so that 3rd test becomes interesting to watch. i dont want to watch a one-sided flogging.

Great commentators for the match except Botham and specially Russel Arnolds, He is almost as exciting as Gavaskar

Botham is at his best when England are batting poorly. Fuming and hilarious :))
