Defensive captaincy. Yes SL collapsed once before, but that was a freak show of great bowling and bad batting. Strauss is putting too many eggs in that one basket. It may pay off, but chances of it happening again are pretty slim.

too defensive imo & Whippy, 50 as a important milestone ?

I agree. We should have 61 overs not 58. Ah well, still more than a few. And they're not going to beat us at the Rose Bowl - let's be honest here.

Matt prior might face some fine for breaking a glass
Home of cricket glass is not just ordinary

Well this is not related to cricket. Legendary Squash player Jahangir Khan is at the ground. What a player he was. He was one of the most physically and mentally fit athletes in the world.

He should have declared 5 overs earlier...lankans were gonna go for it . 32/1 in 15 overs.

Interesting discussion by Botham & Nass. I have to agree with Sir Ian, Broad isn't really justifying his place in the test side.

Reasonable effort from England in the end, although nowhere near what we're capable of producing. Then again, given how much time has been lost in this series, I'll settle for 1-0 with 1 to play. We also look like a side that will rarely get bowled out twice. The future, on the whole, seems very promising. I wonder who Anderson will replace.

Not to take anything away from the English batsmen, Pietersen, and Morgan but it has a lot to do with the quality of the opposing bowlers as well.

Poor, poor captaincy from Strauss. Should've set 250 as a target, something for SL to chase.

an ultimately boring game livened up by cook and dilshan's fantastic innings, finn's bowling and bell's sehwagesquely quick fifty in the end. bring on the rose bowl. i hope more bowler-friendly pitches are produced.

Strauss is a mediocre captain who is somewhat lucky to have such a good team. The declaration was seriously timid and it isn't the first time he's been so backward in coming forward.
Still, only a minor point given the bigger scheme; England's team is looking good though the back up bowling (I'm including [Bresnan>] Broad in that btw) isn't so incisive. Not sure what the situation with Onions is but he'd probably be closer to the first XI if fit.

Tremlett looked ideal on the hard wickets of Australia but doesn't seem as threatening here, Swann is good but isn't a bowler who can carry an attack on his own. I guess Anderson will return but this bowling will really be stretched by India if these sorts of tracks are prepared.

we've lost 4 out of the last 20 tests. We've played Pakistan in this time, and toured Australia and South Africa.

Poxy declaration but hopefully it won't matter in the long run. It was a really flat pitch too.

Hampshire will be more bowler-friendly than the other tests.
