Come on Lanka I've had a crappy day and nothing would cheer me up like a good old-fashioned, english batting collapse.

Probably would be the most likely route to an England win.

does anyone seriously think Bopara would do better than KP in anything more than the ultra-short term? (might not even manage that)

KP is crucial

I reckon 300 lead tomorrow afternoon and declare, we can win!

I don't think Bopara is mentally strong enough to make it in Test cricket. He's talented but hasn't put it all together yet. Ian Bell was somewhat the same way but now he has come back stronger than ever.

KP has a proven track record and should be persisted with. Especially since the batmen around him are getting runs.

kp's highest score this series :p

I would love see KP get some runs here . Even though I am a Sri lankan only thing i see is a draw unless we do a Cardiff sequel at lords . I still can't forget KP switch hitting murali for a six .Those were the Blonde mowhawk times

that year (2006) he scored 1350 runs at average of 53. to die for!

kp is great when in full flow. unfortunately these days he flows outta the stadium as swiftly as he comes in. hope its different today.

He sure was one hell of a batsmen then. He lacks the aggressiveness now. Since his first child :D I didnt see KP with same intent

KP very watchful. Bit too much? Scared he'll just get out anyway :(

Hopefully Sri Lanka will be able to draw this test. Drawing this test will give them tremendous opportunity to beat England in the 3rd test. If they can apply even a bit of pressure on these guys next test the Africans will fold as per standard procedure.

Hope this series gets a bit more exciting soon....only part so far that was exciting was SL's 2nd innings in Cardiff.

I think the big man has played really well. Would love him to get past fifty tomorrow. Baby steps!

3rd ball to turn and bounce from Herath. Swann might be interested.

No way should KP be dropped. I'd rather see Taylor in over Bopara if the unthinkable should happen.

LOL are you crazy?

This England team are not chokers, very mentally strong unit.

We are all set for Tommorow guys . The last and final day of the 2nd test

Finn has passed Botham as the youngest Englishman to take 50 test wickets. Big future for this guy if he stays fit.

I think what yeserday's play showed is that this wicket is not a road. When England put it in the right place consistently, they took wickets.

Finn came back very well in the end no doubt. But he has got to hit the ground running in a match instead of going for a ton and then mopping up, or else he will become known as a decent bowler instead of a very good one.

98 overs to be bowled today, presumably we can have a 11am-7.30pm day weather-and-light permitting (?)

Set them a target of 325 from 65 overs and see if they fancy it.

Had a bit of a punt on England today, hopefully they'll win it and my $44/$1 multibet will pay out and I'll be rich :zardari

Dilshan has broken his thumb and he is a doubt for the Rose Bowl. He will only bat in case of an emergency. Hoping for an emergency :nasser

Is Sanga the most well-spoken player from the subcontinent in the world?

Nick Knight's plan is to declare at a 340 lead with 50 overs left.

That's why you didn't play many tests Nick.

Strauss has got to make sure that he doesnt set the lankans to stiff of a target otherwise the match will just turn out to be a boring draw.

Yeah he is if you are only judging his English but for me it's Dhoni, since he adds bit of humility in humour in his speech without really distracting his main points.

KP has been lovely to watch this morning. Also relieved that his place is now safe from inferior players!

Would be hilarious. Doesn't matter either way though.

No Dilshan ... pitch is not completely flat by any means ... if they come out fired up and grab a couple of early ones again it could be very sad for the Lanks.

KP stance shows it's all he is on song. The tiny bend down and up while the bowler is running into ball all seems good

Dont think Strauss would like to give them anything easy, prolly look for 78-80 in next 15 overs .... would 310 in 65 overs be safe ?

He'll see if KP can get to a ton at least.

Strausser is conservative and does not need to win this match, but I would like him to set the target you suggest. He knows that the SL tail can't bat, and Dilshan has a broken finger.

yeah, one can afford to be conservative when 1-0 up & with dilly out & roof batting at 7 ,its a chance worth taking .... 244/3 & just 25 runs in last 10 overs !!!

KP GONE.. Bowled by Herath from over the wicket, done in by huge turn..

His reaction after the dismissal made the delivery even more special.

Kulasekara would be a better option than all the seamers Sri Lanka have used in this Test. Seriously poor bowling attack.

He is prolly unfit but does bowl well with da whippy kinda action .that ro looked good to me.

Can't believe Bell didn't get given out for that run. There was no appeal and no use of the big screen. I could tell it was out live. Sri Lanka and Doctrove are idiots!!

Bell is playing for the declaration, and so will Morgan and Prior if they are required.

Well played Cook yet again. A thoroughly non-human batsman.

Get them in some time before tea and take some wickets. We could and probably should win this game now, against a depleted and you have to say pretty poor side.

Good innings by Pietersen IMO, I enjoyed it, he probably enjoyed it, and it promises much for the rest of the summer.

Bell is playing superbly, 37 (29)

cooks hundred ..... come on -look for 20 in 2 overs & declare - lanka sure as hell is not gonna get 325 even in 100 overs.

Cook. 3 tons in 3 consecutive tests, 6 50+ scores in consecutive innings, 6 tons in 9 tests.

yes mate.

330 off 60 overs I reckon. 5.5 an over is still dangling the carrot though next to impossible

Hope the Lanks have a real go. Though I think they won't, if Dilshan was there they might've. :fawad

Shut up jheenga. Declaring now leaves too much of an opening for SL.

Looking forward to finding out what happened!

Shot of KP on the balcony - 'Poirot on the case' :bumble

roffle.

Bell could keep batting till a hundred imo ... England have no reason to even give SL a sniff at all. They're already 1-0 up.
