A more level-headed view would be that Pietersen has comprehensively won the battle with Murali in 2 innings in this series, cant remember him being played better by many people, and Murali was going to win the battle himself sooner or later, but eh. Pretty annoying.

Reasonable performance by the English team but still too many hiccups and worries at points in the test match. There are still lots of things to improve on for Trent Bridge, and looking ahead, Pakistan and the Ashes.

I have no doubt we would have taken this game if a few of our batters had been a bit more up to the task.

Sri lanka cant keep failing in 1st inns and then expect to compete. 300-50 is a must in 1st inns here in england. If it takes sri lanka 4-5 sessions of boring cricket to get that then so be it. If you go into test matches and only start to compete after 2 days etc.. then eventually you will keep lossing.

Fortress Edgbaston yet again. Great win for the lads. Bit disappointed the chase was unconvincing but Murali bowled amazingly well. We need to keep our bowling to that standard and get our batting more secure for Friday. I won't be satisfied if it's not 2-0. We are a better team than Sri Lanka.

I'm not sure why Agnew, Boycott and the rest of the doomsayer crew are getting so worried. Sure, in this game we weren't the quality of team that played Australia, but there are good reasons for that:

1. We didn't need to be! England usually raise their game when they are the underdogs but they did more than enough to win this time. We were never really in danger of losing either test 1 or 2, we just started to let Lankans back into the game at times.

2. Simon Jones, Michael Vaughan and Ashley Giles who were very important to success against Australia, all are injured, so obviously the less experienced replacements arent going to be as good yet.

It is nothing to worry about.
