Robert Snodgrass' omission from the West Brom squad beaten at West Ham on Tuesday is being investigated by the Premier League.

The former Scotland midfielder, 33, joined Albion from the Hammers on 8 January for an undisclosed fee, making his debut in Saturday's win at Wolves.

But he missed the West Ham game because of "an agreement between the clubs", West Brom boss Sam Allardyce said.

The Premier League will examine whether competition rules have been broken.

Under normal circumstances, Snodgrass would have been eligible to play against West Ham, as his transfer was permanent.

It is only with loan deals that such restrictions apply in the Premier League - in those circumstances, a player cannot face their parent club.

But Allardyce said: "We could only get the deal done with that agreement.

"There was an agreement between the clubs that [in] this game he would not be allowed to play."

Premier League rule I7, listed in the competition's 2020-21 handbook, states that: "No club shall enter into a contract which enables any other party to that contract to acquire the ability materially to influence its policies or the performance of its teams in league matches."

It is not the first time there has been controversy regarding a player not facing a former club after a transfer.

In April 2007, goalkeeper Tim Howard was left out of the Everton side to play Manchester United at Goodison Park.

Howard had moved to Everton from Old Trafford on loan in July 2006, but the deal was made permanent in February 2007 - meaning he could have faced United two months later.

Everton left him out because of a 'gentleman's agreement' made when the USA international joined permanently.

The Premier League said in 2007 that it would not have sanctioned the permanent transfer if United had requested a clause preventing Howard from playing against them.

Following an investigation, though, the league said it was satisfied that neither club had done anything wrong.

Lampard needs to go , this fixation with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham has cost him his job. Giroud , Havertz would have been better starters in those positions but they are played out of position to accommodate his young english darlings.

Hard fought win for City, who move to the top of the table (at least for a few hours).

A hard fought 2 1 win away at Fulham sees them go back to the top of the league.
 
Brilliant performance by Burnley 1-0 win at Anfield.

This guy Dyche is one great manager.

You've just lost to the bottom team Sheffield at home, who have only won one previous game. :)))

I doubt Utd will see top of the table again for the rest of the season.

LFC are only 6 points behind with one game in hand, a bit early for Utd fans who have won nothing in years to get excited. Blades put you to the sword. :)))

Looks like LP fans finaly got something to cheer about this season

But don't worry, as it stands your not even in the top 4 with a tough game coming up against spurs.

...and you shouldnt be talking about swords, right after we slaughtered you on the weekend :)))

We are in the Champions league, you can try to win the mickey mouse cup but wont while City is still live .:)))

Poor from Ole, be honest with yourself. Martial was poor again, should never have started.

Hope you enjoyed being at the top for a few days lol.

Looks like your more happy than SHU fans :)))

Martial has been poor all season, that's what makes our season so good, we've played without a CF, I was hoping he would kick into gear by now and we would be sailing, but he's to lazy and has no desire to play.

I feel for Pogba , he's been back to his best recently, carrying the team.

If Cavani gets injured, you will struggle to make it to top 4 esp with some tough fixtures coming.

Either way, this PL season is impossible to predict, apart from City to win the league. Every game is a great watch for this reason alone.

We've gone through the worse, which is always the tightly packed Christmas fixtures, City will drop points we just need to capitalise on them now, they like us also lack a goal scorer upfront and with de bruyne injured, they won't keep there momentum as long as usually do.

Come may, we will still be competing for the top spot, Cavani will get injured he always does, but we hardly rely on him anyway and use him sparingly, Ole needs to sit down with Martial now and sort him out.

As expected, the Champions are back!

Amazing performance, just like last season. Moved the at speed with precision, not giving the ball away. Fast pressing and bullet speed counter attacks.

On todays performance, no team on the planet would have coped with us tonight.

West Ham on Sunday, a big win again and we are back in the hunt with City.
 
The Premier League will trial the use of concussion substitutes from Saturday, 6 February.

The new rule means up to two permanent substitutions can be made in the event of head injuries, even if all replacements have already been used.

All square but it's been a fairly decent game. Chances at both ends for Callum Wilson, Yerry Mina, Richarlison and James Rodriguez.

A save from Jordan Pickford that will do him no harm either.

Well that's that then.

Watching a re-run of West Brom versus Fulham from earlier would have been time better spent after what has been a largely dull affair.
 
Aston Villa's great season continues with a very good 1 0 away win at Southampton.
 
New manager's first win at Chelsea as they earlier beat Burnley 2-0.

Excellent 3 1 away win for Leeds at Leicester. Bamford superb for Leeds.

Liverpool need some reinforcements in the summer. Ox, Keita, Origi, Shaqiri, Adrian and Minamino now on loan all need to be moved on permanently. This will most likely be the last season we see Wijnaldum and Milner in Liverpool colours too. We need to sign a dynamic midfielder instead of the injury prone Keita, I've had enough of him. VVD and Gomez returning should greatly help us at the back, would also like to see Harry Wilson being given a proper chance in the side. JK needs to freshen up things for a side that needs some dismantling.
 
LP struggling to get top 4, MU back in the title race, back to what EPL really is and has always been

and, im laughing at kingkhan, who thought it was funny we lost to SU, I don't need to laugh at any teams loss when there already below us struggling for top 4

Funnier still is that you are not even in the Champions League that restarts in a few weeks!!:)) You will be playing in the mickey mouse Europa League that no one cares about and lost at home to the team who are last in the EPL table:)). We are on your tails in the league albeit going through a bad period. It happens to all sides throughout the season but not all lose to SU:srt!

From 2-0 down Everton hardly a great side come back to draw 3-3! Man Utd fans here are acting as if they are 20 points ahead in the league and 30 ahead of Liverpool. Typical deluded Man Utd so called fans devoid of commonsense. If Liverpool win tomorrow the gap will only be two points.
 
FULL TIME: Tottenham 2-0 West Brom

A surprisingly quick return from injury for Harry Kane and a return to goal scoring form for Tottenham, back on track with a solid win against a struggling West Brom side.

Looks like even Sam Allardyce can't save these guys.
 
Well Man City are 1-0 up at Liverpool.

Strange match so far for Ilkay Gundogan, missed a penalty and now scored.
 
Salah's penalty brings Liverpool level.

Yes hardly a great side, but they have been playing better football then LP this season :)))
They probably will finish above you in the table too.

We still dominated the game and were let down by defensive mistakes, which we need to clean up to win the title, but have made great improvements to the team while lp get worse.

As for the gap, what you don't realise is that the gap widens every week, you started the year ahead of us now look were you are, it surly will be 20 points come may.

Forget about winning against city, the difference in class is night and day, they have dominated and trashed you with ease, the only way lp can score against big teams is now with penalties.

Good luck in fighting for top 4, which itself looks out of reach now :)))

So your task is too finish above us us instead of winning the league!!:))) You can forget about catching Man City but I still feel we can catch you seeing your struggles as well. Defensive mistakes are part of the game sport, stop making cheap excuses. I can but will not make excuses like you.

So when we started the season well ahead then the opposite can happen as well. You too can lose many points when there are still many to play for. We have had our fair share of victories over city like beating them 4-1 in the EPL and in the Champions League, remember?? No you obviously choose to overlook these results.

We can win the Champions League and will still finish in the top four. You'll be playing in the gross Europa League in a few weeks!:))):)))

City will win the league with ease. LFC went for the win but without any real central defenders it was never going to be easy.

Liverpool will still finish second imo. We need to concentrate on Champions League more now.

At least we are not playing in s second rate Europa League against teams whose names sound like medicine!!:))) We will worry about who is in the top four when the season ends besides we could win the Champions League this season!:ds You are rightfully talking about next season hoping we will be in a competition that you will be playing in a few weeks then lose as well!:))) I can provide a long list of teams who have owned you this season!:srt

THAT is absolutely brilliant by Roberto Firmino! That's why he's in the team. Outrageous.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has a shot that is blocked, the ball comes back in to the feet of Firmino inside the area. How best to describe this - he's got two defenders on him and does a sort of dragback past one and then flicks the ball out to Mo Salah behind him with the other foot. All quick as a flash.

Salah still has work to do but makes it look easy, sidefooting in from 16 yards or so. Genius at play.

Leicester scored three goals in seven breath-taking second-half minutes as another Alisson mistake contributed to a 3-1 defeat for Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.

When Everton have played all there games in hand, you will be laying down there at 6 :))) yet had the audacity to call Everton rubbish a week back :))) typical liverpoorian excited kid who cursed his own team now you are heading to europa,the only medicine that exists in europa will be the one lp fans need to take:)))

At this stage you won't even make it to europa. :)))
